Waltritsch a+u projected the new Mediatheque, part of a larger complex named Casa del Cinema (Home of the Film) located in the Gorizia, Italy.

Here is the project description:

The new Mediatheque is part of a larger complex named Casa del Cinema (Home of the Film) which includes the Kinemax multiplex, several associations dedicated to the cinema culture, the DAMS Cinema section of the Udine University, and finally the Mediatheque. One place, located between the city main square and the castle hill, which gathers commercial, cultural, educational and promotional activities dedicated to the film culture. This combination of different activities is obviously quite unique, and particularly important for the small city of Gorizia.

The Mediatheque stands on the ground floor between the street and one internal passage, so it has two entrances, facing the city as well as the University. The simple plan layout divides the space into three main areas open to the public: the newspaper and magazines hall, the study space and the video room. Behind the reception and reference point, which is visually connected to both entrances, the are separated rooms as storage and one office.

All spaces are bound by book and media shelves at full height. One shelve line is marked by a strong color, different for every area, providing specific identity. The same colored shelve line defines the glass facades as well, becoming a communication vitrine, where you directly expose new arrivals, or organize a small exhibition directly facing the public street. The newspaper and magazine area have a custom designed star shape reading table and a cross shape information counter, and is thought for informal gathering. The tables in the study room can be reorganized in order to host reading evenings or presentations.

Part of the project is the new façade on the public street as well. A series of colored glass panels on the higher part of the facade are facing the built and natural context of the historical city heart. The dialogue with the surrounding buildings goes through the use of the typical color palette of the building render, and the slight and not intrusive reflection of the surroundings provided by the colored glass. This allows the context to be dilated into the Mediatheque building façade: a “form of transit” of the everyday life.

Japanese architecture firm Edward Suzuki Associates projected this house which is the first case of an industrialized house in Japan designed the an architect.

Here is the project description:

This is the first case of an industrialized house in Japan (and perhaps in the world) designed by an architect, Edward Suzuki, and built by a major housing manufacturer, Daiwa House Kougyo, in a collaborative effort. The house is named after the architect’s nickname and also stands for Edward Daiwa-House Design Innovation.

Pre-designed and pre-fabricated and sold as a ready-made “product”; the buyers’ characteristics, lifestyles, site conditions, etc. are not known at the time of design. As such, the architect has opted to design under the assumption that the site on which the house would be placed is not surrounded by environment friendly conditions, as has been so proven more often than not through the architect’s experience over the years, and that the house should look not outward but inward.

As a result, the design concept is “Go in to go out”, meaning that the house has an outside patio at the center of the house onto which each and every room looks out. Furthermore, a balcony is placed above and adjacent to the central patio overlooking it such that this combination of open spaces creates an “interface” between the outside proper and the inside that acts a filter, a buffer, or a cushion between the two zones.

In this way the design is such that the house does not need to depend on the contextual conditions in which it is to be situated. No matter how unfavorable the surroundings may be, the house would function comfortably within the mini-cosmos of its own boundaries. Should the outside conditions be favorable for a change, all that a buyer needs to do is to request extra openings onto the outside in order to bring the assets of the outside into the house. The house with its central patio is designed to allow as much of not only direct natural sunlight but also cross ventilation as possible to provide for maximum energy efficiency.

EDDI’s House now boasts six basic types of plans with sixty-nine variations to accommodate as much of the varying site conditions and characteristics.

A-cero presents the second modular show house in the spanish city of Ferrol, A Coruña, covered with white aluminum composite and black glass panels.

Here is the project description:

In this occasion A-cero has chosen a different façade from the Madrid show house´s. In that way people can see different options that A-cero offers with these modular houses.

This time A-cero has designed a combination of black glass with panels of white aluminium Larson composite. The house has a modern and clean design with the same avant-garde style of the modular house already built in Madrid (that one has a black glass facade). However, the new modular house has a freshness and clarity touch due to the white colour. Also, the white gravel in the house’s surface accentuates this luminosity sensation. This material is a very affordable and comfortable solution for the owners.

Apart form the “closing extra”, this house has been presented without extras in order to emphasize the house´s structure and give the main role to the excellent quality of its materials and finished.

The house has a 106 m2 area. It includes three bedrooms, two baths, hall, lounge – dining room, laundry room and kitchen. It costs 99.000 euros. The house´s furniture has been designed by A-cero. It has been created looking for a functional and modern aesthetics. The house´s decoration is led by the Mercedes Rodríguez pictures, whose abstract and evocative works generally are in every A-cero´s projects.

A-cero has presented this second modular show house after the first successful modular house which was presented last February in Madrid. Indeed, nowadays ten modular houses are being built (for private costumers) and several promotions will be built the next September. Almost 2.000 budgets have been prepared up to the date too.

Krawitz Architecture projected this unique house with a second skin made with bamboo in Bessancourt, near Paris, France.

The house is closed to the north to limit heat loss and opened to the south benefitting from free solar energy. Aesthetically, it is an abstract replica of a traditional house.

The second skin of untreated bamboo, which becomes grey over time, drew inspiration from traditional barns in the part of the ile-de-france region where the house is situated. It passes in front of the windows to the north and finishes by unfolding on to the roof.

Identical shutters are fitted on large bay windows to the south to provide shade and light in the house, during the day or at night. Photovoltaic panels on the roof round off the program.

The foundation slab is the only concrete element, the entire structure is created from the assembly oflarge solid wood panels, which have been prefabricated in a workshop.

Marcio Kogan projected this beautiful house made with stone and wood in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with external space to be used for everyday living.

Here is the project description:

The Brazilian tropical climate suggests ample use of these solutions in vernacular as well as in modern architecture. Beginning from the colonial, Brazilian architecture has usually incorporated a space that was known as the veranda. Verandas are covered linear spaces in front of the living room and bedrooms which act as the intermediary between the interior and exterior.

In the House 6 project, the idea of the veranda has been reinvented. The veranda is not exactly in front of the living room, disposed longitudinally, but, rather, perpendicular to it. The wooden pillars that give support to the structure and the clay tiles of traditional verandas have been substituted by modern pilotis that support a volume of flat slabs. The veranda of House 6, nonetheless, still remains an open space and, simultaneously, opens to the garden and the pool. It is a living room, a TV room and an extension of the internal kitchen.

This space, then, structured the entire architecture of the house, organized in two transversal volumes and an annex in the back that holds a home office. The lower volume houses the utilities, the kitchen and the living room with door-frames that can be recessed into the walls, and thereby entirely opening the internal space to either side. This sets the cross-ventilation and an unfettered contiguous view of the garden. The upper volume has the private area of the house with the bedrooms and, on the third floor there is a small multiple-use living room alongside an upper deck.

Architecturally, the space of the veranda, located under the bedrooms, would have a low ceiling-height, to create a warm feeling. The sum of the structure of the two perpendicular volumes and the living room ceiling-height would result in a very high ceiling. Thus, it was decided to make the living room lower in relation to the veranda and the garden. This result made it possible to have a house with elongated proportions and the viability of a covered external pleasant space to be used on both warm and cool days in the city of Sao Paulo.

CSAR Architecture transformed an existing building in the center of Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, Netherlands, into a modern jewelry studio and art gallery on the ground floor and family home on the first and second floor.

Here is the project description:

An existing jewellery studio and art gallery in the centre of the village of Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel has been transformed into a modern space which suits the art and jewellery. The family home, on the first and second floor, has been extended and modernized as well. A connection, on two levels, between the house and the garden house has been established which makes the garden house part of the house.

The owner makes her own jewellery, sometimes on demand. She also gives workshops in the studio and different artists can expose their art in the gallery.
The new display window of the gallery is adjusted to the scale of the jewellery. The window consists of several wooden boxes which each have their own lightning. Through the boxes there’s view on the street and the gallery, but at the same time it provides a feeling of privacy as it is not a complete glass façade.

The floor plan has been transformed. By adding the garden house to the existing house, as well as extending the house, CSAR was able to create an exiting new floor plan which had to deal with height differences, existing stairs and existing windows.

As a contrast to the boxes that stick into the façade on the ground floor, one big “box” sticks out of the façade on the first floor. The windows inside of it give a great view on the street from the living room. The inside is also being used as a place to sit on.
The whole exterior has been plastered to cover the different types of brickwork and damages. The new doors and windows in the back façade make sure there’s a lot of light in the house and a nice garden view.

The style of the interior is a modern basis with many build in elements combined with designer furniture, art and homemade elements.
