Removing the background of an image can be really challenging, specially if the contour of the foreground has lots of details. Unfortunately, this is one of the most common tasks performed everyday by every single Photoshop user around the world and can be extremely time consuming.

Luckily for us there are several smart techniques that help reducing the amount of time in this tasks, and one of them involves the use of channels to mask the background of an image, making the creation of a selection marquee a piece of cake. Basically, all you have to do is choose the channel with the higher contrast between the foreground and background and use it as the base of a new selection. Yes, it’s that easy! What are you waiting, go there and check the tutorial for the details.
