Vodafone To Sell HTC One X & S

Vodafone have also just announced they will stock the HTC One S and X here in the UK. No information as of yet with regards to a price or release date but at least we know it is coming to the UK network

HTC Onex

Set to become the most powerful phone in the Vodafone range to date, the HTC Onex features a quad core 1.5 GHz processor which powers its amazing features smoothly and with lightning quick speed.

It packs an 8 megapixel camera which has been built to generate outstanding images – both still and video – even in low level light conditions, one of the device’s key features. It also allows you to shoot video and grab still images at the same time, so you never miss a moment

On the hardware front, the device is ultra-thin, offers 32GB on memory, weighs just 130 grams, and features a sizeable 4.7 inch full HD touchscreen with 1280 x 720 resolution.

HTC Ones

The HTC Ones also packs quite a punch and is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz processor.

Like the Onex, the Ones is built to capture amazing quality images and video with its 8 megapixel camera optimised by a host of smart features for all light conditions

At just 7.95mm thick, weighing a mere 119 grams and sporting an ultra-sharp 4.3 inch AMOLED qHD display, the HTC Ones is a great looking phone too.

The HTC Onex and HTC Ones both run on the latest version of Android (4.0, Ice-Cream Sandwich) with HTC Sense 4.0, providing new features such as Wireless Display, HTC SyncHub and Active Lockscreen. In addition, they feature the Beats Audio software for a fantastic audio experience.

Users of these new devices can benefit from an additional 25GB of storage for two years, available through HTC’s partnership with cloud storage provider, DropBox.

The HTC Ones will also be joining the Vodafone UK line up later this year.

Mobile World Congress newsflash.

Three to range the HTC OneX, HTC OneS and the HTC OneV.

Hot off the press from Mobile World Congress, Three has announced that it will be ranging three new smartphones from HTC – The HTC OneX, the HTC OneS and the HTC OneV .

The HTC OneX is the ultimate lifestyle smartphone packed full of high-end features designed to make the most of every moment. Its cutting edge 4.7” Pureview display (HD 720p) creates vibrant, razor sharp visuals that bring images to life through its tough Gorilla Glass LCD screen. It’s speedy too with a 1.5GHz quadcore processor so quickly switching between apps and exploring the mobile internet has never been easier.

Hi-Fi sounds with Beats AudioTM give a studio-quality sound experience, just the way the artist intended and gamers can choose from an impressive selection of console quality touch-based or controller games with OnLive. Capturing those ‘must share’ moments is simple with the HTC OneX as there’s an eight megapixel camera and HD video along with plenty of memory thanks to 25GB of cloud storage from Dropbox.

Three will also be ranging the beautifully crafted and ultra slim HTC OneS, HTC’s thinnest handset that sets a new standard in smartphone design. There’s far more to it than good looks; with HTC ImageSense taking amazing pictures is easy in any light and users can even snap a picture while shooting HD video. Beats Audio for authentic studio sound provides an enhanced experience when listening to YouTube, Netflix, downloaded music or a movie. There's plenty of space for storing files, music and photos on the go with 25GB of free Cloud storage with Dropbox. HTC Media Link HD connects the phone to the TV so users can take a call or read emails at the same time.

And finally there’s the great value HTC Onev , a smartphone packed full of the latest technology at an affordable price. It features a five megapixel camera with autofocus and LED Flash which creates stunning images, even in low light and there’s a HD video recorder for capturing those special moments on film. Exploring the internet on the move is a breeze as the HTC One v has a 1GHz dual-core processor that makes browsing and switching between applications smooth and seamless. Its 3.7” WVGA display gives the user a fantastic viewing experience and with Beats Audio technology they’ll also enjoy first class sound. All of these features are packed into a stylish, iconic design which is less than 9mm thin so it looks great too.

Speaking from Barcelona, Sylvia Chind, head of handsets at Three said: “Teaming the latest innovations from HTC with Three’s network that was built for the mobile internet is hugely exciting for us. Each phone is bursting with technology and perfect for entertaining, sharing and making the stuff we love even more accessible and there’s a choice for everyone, whatever their budget”.

Pricing and availability will be announced shortly
Three To Also Sell HTC One X is original content from Coolsmartphone.com

Three To Sell HTC One S & V

Three have just tweeted they are to stock the new HTC One S and One V devices on their UK network and in traditional THree style have posted a Sneak Peak video on their Blog and YouTube channel

It might sound a bit odd, but I love manufacturer press conferences. You, and all the other tech lovers around you, know that in a matter of minutes a brand new game-changing piece of hardware might be announced. The rumours are rife, the tension is palpable. Analysts, journalists and bloggers are all jostling for prime position and all, more often than not, for a first glimpse of a precious pocket-sized piece of glass and metal.

Tonight, HTC’s press conference at Mobile World Congress has lived up to all expectations. They’ve just taken to the stage to introduce the latest range of devices from the company – the HTC One series. This family of three smartphones has several amazing features in common. There’s the market-leading camera which uses HTC proprietary software to give it an extra edge, the authentic audio experience provided byBeats, and of course their trademark slender design.

We’ll tackle each phone one at a time. First up for us is the stunning HTC One V.

In the HTC One range the One V is a great all-rounder. Its design is distinctive. The One V’s metal finish gives it a feeling of real quality, and it has it has ‘the chin’, made famous by its predecessors the HTC Hero, Legend and Salsa. Stifle your giggles please! The chin has a practical purpose. It’s there to protect the phone’s screen, so if it’s face down on a table, the glass remains scratch-free. Design aside, the phone’s 3.7 inch touch screen, 5MP camera and 1GHz processor are still impressive.

The One series makes the most of cloud technology by partnering exclusively with Dropbox, the online storage system. For 24 months, every user get 25GB of space on Dropbox to store attachments, pictures and audio files. Everything’s really easy to access, so your content’s never more than a few clicks away.

Don’t go away… more on HTC’s two other devices on its way shortly.

So, moving quickly on from the HTC One V in our last post, to the One S, the second in HTC’s One series of smartphones.

Before we get stuck into its spec, a quick mobile fact for you…

Did you know that more than 50% of the smartphones that already exist today are running on Android? Amazing when you think that only a few years ago it was completely unheard of as a mobile operating system. HTC’s One series is naturally completely Android powered, a great advert for Google’s OS, and the One S certainly makes the most of its features.

HTC is renowned for producing beautifully designed products, one of the things I really love about their approach to developing smartphones. The One S doesn’t fail to disappoint. It’s the thinnest HTC smartphone yet at less than 8mm thick, and it comes in two beautiful colours. The first is matte black with a red finish, and the other (my personal favourite) is silver with a blue finish.

It has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED touch screen and an enhanced 8MP camera. Like the last few smartphones we’ve seen from HTC, it comes with the Beats Audio experience, something that’s been a real selling point for HTC so far, and it’s no surprise to see Beats continuing to be a feature with this latest device.

I also shouldn’t neglect to mention how quickly and smoothly the HTC One S runs. It operates on the latest version of Android; Ice Cream Sandwich, and it has a 1.5GHz Dual core processor. Combined, these two technical features result in super-fast browsing and clearer streaming. Jumping from screen to screen even when you’re not online will be faster too.

We’re predicting big things for this phone. It looks great and is perfect for easy, no-faff mobile internet. We think it’ll be a big hitter in 2012.

You know the drill by now, we can’t say loads more about it, but do check out our sneak peek vid for a bit of a closer look.

HTC Rhyme. Has it got the Rhythm?

I am a fan of big screen phones. There I admit it, so why I may here you ask do I have HTC's latest offering in the Rhyme sitting in front of me for review. Well the reason couldn't be simpler, if you are a regular reader of Coolsmartphone you will know that I recently attended an event hosted by HTC and O2 in Edinburgh. Well they gave me a phone to review so here we are. Before I start though I would like to say again that this is a great idea and one would really like to see evolve and move forward with other companies as I feel it is a great way for them to find out what the end user is thinking about there phones.

Hardware

Lets get this dealt with quickly the phone is not your usual colour it comes I'm a lovely shade of purple which HTC call Plum not my first choice for a colour of phone but it was free and beggars can't be choosers. The phone is very similar to what has gone before with HTC with the screen dominating the front and having its four Android keys embedded into the layer of glass making them melt away when not needed. I quite liked the placement of these keys and they're also responsive enough as well. On theses we have the volume control on one and then a flap covering the micro USB charger/sync port on the other on the top we have a 3.5mm headset jack and the power sleep/wake key lastly there is a pinhole mic up here for noise cancellation. At the bottom it is fairly clear apart from the primary microphone. On the rear you have the lens for the 5mp camera which is the new improved version and also some other holes the reason for which I am not sure. Lastly we have what I believe are called pogo pins, these are here to facilitate the connection with the dock accessory.

The dock comes free in the box and is both for charging and also playing music. It works really well and when the phone os docked it will become a really useful bed side clock and I have been using it as such. When playing music it seems to establish a local Bluetooth pairing with the dock to do so which is quite cool however it seems that when you remove it too use you have to turn off the Bluetooth yourself which is a shame and a nuisance. Other accessories include the headphones a white leather pouch and also a charm. The purpose of the charm is too allow the user to have the phone buried away in a handbag and still be able to see if she is getting a call or a text. Its a nice idea but not sure how usefully it would actually be in the real world.

Software

Like all HTC devices that have come before the Ryhme is equipped with Android that has been re-skinned, in this case it is Android 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 3.5. This give android some visual flair that would otherwise not have been present in stock Gingerbread but in my opinion does not really add much to the functionality of the device. There are some nice features that have been added and one of these is the new sense front end widget. This widget allows you to have the clock and a couple of shortcuts on the home screen. The difference with this version to older sense versions os that the shortcuts are multifunctional. I have tried to display this in the attached video below.

We spotted their logo whilst sunning ourselves outside the Fira, so elbowed our way through the crowds to see what was going on. Unfortunately they won't let us in just yet, but when they do we'll have the full details right here.

MWC – Huawei Announce Ascend D & XL

Huawei have today announced the Ascend D and the XL a day before MWC is about to kick off. This is touted as being the worlds fastest smartphone with some awesome specifications. Powered by Huawei’s K3V2 quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz CPU there's more than passing resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy SII, but Huawei have definitely added their own spin to these 4.5" 720P HD devices, packing Android 4.0 and a trick power management system which should stop you running off for a charge in the afternoon.

The screens are have a 32-bit true colour graphic processor with a promised "crystal clear" viewing experience, even in direct sunlight. We'll wait and see on that one, and we'll challenge Huawei to show it to us provided they pay for a flight to the Carribean.

Other highlights include the Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound sound system and something called "Audience earSmart™". Other specs include an 8 megapixel rear camera (with full 1080p HD capture), 1.3 megapixel front camera, 1800mAh battery - and it measures just 64mm x 8.9mm.

The Ascend D quad XL and the Ascend D1 smartphones were also announced today. Both of these come with a beefed-up 2500mAh battery and a little more bulk as a consequence.

Huawei Introduces the World's Fastest Smartphone: The Ascend D quad

With Huawei's proprietary quad-core chip and power management system

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today introduced the world's fastest quad-core smartphone, the Huawei Ascend D quad. Powered by the Huawei's K3V2 quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor and boasting the most compact design among 4.5-inch smartphones, the Ascend D quad expands the realm of possibilities for consumers with an Android 4.0 operating system and Huawei's proprietary power management system which provides up to 30% in energy savings.

"We've listened to people's top demands from smartphones: speed, long-battery life, high quality visual and audio capabilities, and a compact, lightweight handset. The Huawei Ascend D quad exceeds these expectations," said Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device. "In January at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, we achieved a world record for the world's slimmest smartphone with the Huawei Ascend P1 S. We are proud to once again introduce a world-first at the 2012 Mobile World Congress with the Ascend D quad, the fastest smartphone."

The Ascend D quad is an entertainment dynamo with its 4.5-inch 720P high definition touchscreen, and the industry's most powerful 32-bit true color graphic processor. Its PPI 330 screen providing crystal clear display even under direct sunlight, is complemented by its Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and Audience earSmart™ voice technology for an experience which excels across the senses. Its 8-megapixel BSI rear-facing camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and 1080p full HD video-capture and playback capabilities enables you to record your special moments in clearer, richer detail.

The Ascend D quad comes with an 1800mAh battery, which lasts for one to two days with normal usage. The smartphone's prowess is enhanced by Huawei Device's proprietary power management technology which provides a longer battery life of up to 30% compared to industry average by adjusting power consumption according to usage needs. It also ensures higher chipset performance and efficiency by maintaining a low chip temperature.

Measuring 64mm narrow and 8.9mm slim, the Ascend D quad is proof that good things do come in small packages. With an ultra-thin frame, the lightweight and compact smartphone's 4.5-inch touchscreen seems to vanish into the edge, creating an "infinity" feel and allowing an exceptionally narrow body.

In addition to innovative hardware design, the Ascend D quad also has outstanding software design. In addition to its Android 4.0 operating system, the Ascend D quad optimizes the user experience, ensuring greater ease of use.

As part of the Ascend D series, Huawei also introduced the Ascend D quad XL and the Ascend D1 smartphones. The Ascend D quad XL comes with a 2500mAh battery which provides two to three days of normal usage. With the same specifications as the Ascend D quad, the Ascend D quad XL measures 10.9 mm slim. The Ascend D1 runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU and has a 1670mAh battery.

The Ascend D quad series will be available in China, Australia, Europe, Asia-Pacific, North and South America, and the Middle East in Q2 2012. The Ascend D1 will be available in the above markets from April 2012.

MWC – Huawei Announce Ascend D & XL is original content from Coolsmartphone.com

MWC – A few more Nokia Lumia 610 details leaked?

BGR.in appear to have a bit more information on the Nokia 610, which we're expecting to get final details on tomorrow morning.

Their moles reckon that it'll have a 3.2" display and a 3 megapixel camera. Apparently this will go on sale for around €175.

We'll be live from the event tomorrow.

MWC – Samsung Galaxy Beam.. it’s back!

Remember the Galaxy Beam from Samsung ? Two years ago it promised big-screen entertainment by projecting images from your smartphone to a wall or other flat surface. It wasn't wildly successful but Samsung have fiddled around with it and released this new version, complete with a 4" 400x800 pixel screen, Android 2.3, dual-core 1GHz CPU, 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.3 megapixel front camera.

The projector, which sits at the top of the handset, pumps out 15 lumens... no, we don't quite know what that means either, but Samsung promise us that it's enough to stick a 50" image on your wall.

Update - Frazer has emailed in, he knows a thing or two about "lumens". His home 3D projector kicks out 2500 lumens, so you'll probably have to draw the curtains for this one...

Share the Fun with Samsung GALAXY Beam

February 26, 2012

Samsung's projector smartphone offers unforgettable shared experience for playing multimedia content anytime, anywhere

Barcelona – February 26, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today introduced Samsung GALAXY Beam, the projector smartphone that allows users to display and share multimedia content anywhere on a large luminous projector screen.

GALAXY Beam lets users spontaneously share photos, videos or other digital media with family or friends by beaming content stored on the device directly onto walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces, so that everyone can share the fun without the need to huddle around smartphone or pad-sized screens. GALAXY Beam's ultra-bright 15 lumens projector allows users to freely share life's memorable moments instantly and in crisp clarity, even in outdoor environments.

"GALAXY Beam provides mobile freedom, enabling a unique shared experience around digital content for everyone-anywhere and instantly-from a smartphone as slim and portable as any on the market," said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

GALAXY Beam is a device borne out of Samsung's insight and innovation, demonstrating Samsung's commitment to providing extraordinary experiences for consumers with products that let them express and fulfill themselves."

Video clips, maps, business information, games - a whole range of multimedia content can be beamed instantly by GALAXY Beam on a crisp, high-definition projection up to 50'' wide. The device features a projector-dedicated application which makes it easy to select content and activate projection in a few simple steps.

Add a dose of ambience or entertainment to a friends' gathering by transforming any household room or outdoor deck into an instant mini home-theater, projecting full-screen video clips on a ceiling or wall for common sharing, at the touch of a button. Or capture your favorite holiday moments using the GALAXY Beam's 5MP camera, then display a full photo slideshow to family members on a dining room wall while playing accompanying music straight from the device, so that everyone shares the experience.

For young users who depend on constant, immediate socializing of digital content and entertainment, GALAXY Beam introduces a new way of sharing. It becomes much more than a phone-a handy digital tool, deployable anywhere, which can add visual entertainment to a simple street gathering, set the mood for a small party, or simply turn life's moments into something personally and immediately sharable. With GALAXY Beam, a birthday or anniversary party can be enlivened in seconds by sharing YouTube or Hulu music videos straight onto a ceiling or door. Likewise, students can collectively share videos or study-work in any dormitory room or student lounge, turning group study into a whole new interactive experience right from a desk table or from the palm of their hands. GALAXY Beam is also ideal for action-packed interactive gaming: Users can upload their own games or choose from over 1,000 games available via Game Hub, Samsung's dedicated virtual gaming store, then project games to co-players or observers to turn gaming into an unbeatably interactive, shared experience. Additionally, GALAXY Beam is convenient tool for mid-sized business workers. An estate agent can beam images of candidate properties to customers as they tour them; or an architect can display draft concepts or designs to co-workers on the spot at a building site or public location.

Despite featuring a full built-in projector, the GALAXY Beam does not compromise on style or portability, measuring just 12.5mm thick and featuring an elegant, ergonomic design. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is powered by an impressive 1.0GHz dual-core processor, ensuring great versatility and a highly responsive user interface. An impressive 8GB of internal memory allows ample multimedia storage without compromises, and a powerful 2000 mAh battery ensures greater display power and content freedom.

MWC – Samsung announce the 10.1″ Galaxy Tab 2

So, hot on the heels of their new 7" Galaxy Tab 2 comes this, the larger 10.1" version. This has a 1280x800 pixel screen with "PLS technology" which basically makes the screen clearer and viewable from more angles.

Running Android 4.0 (ICS), this will also have the TouchWiz user interface. Using a 1GHz dual-core CPU it has a 3 megapixel rear cam, VGA front cam and 1GB of RAM. It's powered by a 7000mAh battery and you can get it in either 16GB or 32GB with a microSD slot for further expansion.

Word has it that this new version will arrive here in the UK in March. Pricing is yet to be unveiled. If we're honest, we were expected a better screen resolution and CPU, so hopefully the price will be low to attract customers.

MWC – HTC One X Full Specs leaked

Well, we knew it was going to be good, but now the full specs seem to confirm that too.

More pictures of the device are now available, plus we understand that new owners will get themselves 25 GB of Dropbox storage completely free for two years.

FullGSM have the latest leak, which details the HTC One X as having a 4.7" HD res super LCD2 screen, quad-core NVIDIA 1.5GHz Tegra 3 CPU and apparently Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0 will be ready out of the box.

Some rather clever camera technology will let you record 1080p HD video and snap 8 megapixel photos at the same time.

Giffgaff – Have they turned a corner?

Want a mobile? The selection is insane. Want a plan? The choice is endless. MVNO's - aka "virtual networks that use other networks" are on the rise and they're proving popular with those wanting a greater selection and less tie-ins.

The boys at GiffGaff who continuously surprise us with amazing SIM card deals are still feeling the love, despite their recent data changes. Their new advertising campaign, which we mentioned a few days back, compares those locked into contracts with battery hens. It even features Keith Harris and Orville... Oooh I hate that duck.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN2rlIi3Elg

So, what's been happening at Giffgaff? Well, after receiving a fair bit of criticism for slow responses and other issues they're chucked £1.5 million into their systems and have added more call centre staff after a strong period of growth. From what we're seeing, people are looking to cut costs by breaking out of contracts and switching to SIM-only plans that can offer better value for money. Without the mobile subsidy, plans start at just £10 for 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited web.

Here at Coolsmartphone we regularly use a Giffgaff SIM (which uses the O2 network) when testing handsets and perhaps the best part is the community, who chip in with advice, assistance and earn cash from recommendations.

Acer announce the Liquid Glow

Acer are really pushing for good things at MWC next week. They have today announced another handset that they will showing off next week.

The Acer Liquid Glow is going to be a WVGA display type device, it will have a 5 megapixel camera, LED flash, panoramic capture, touch focus. It will have Qualcomm 1GHz processor, 1GB storage and 512MB Ram. Dimensions of the device are 117x58.5x11.5mm.

It will come in several different colours, Pink (eeek), white and black. They are really pushing the fashion element with this device. It does look nice though. Still not sure about pink devices though.

One thing that does pop out from the screen is that it is running Ice Cream Sandwich which is nice to see. Many manufacturers are still releasing Gingerbread devices.

As usual here is where I say whatever Acer announce next week we will be there to cover it. So keep your eyes on us.

Update - Acer have now released some official info about this device. Here is the press release.

"Acer presents its Liquid Glow smartphone at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Based on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, this smartphone brings the ultimate balance between style, performance and affordability — ideal for today's fun-seeking, social-networking youth.

The Liquid Glow sports a 3.7-inch screen and portrays Acer's signature look with nice curves, chrome details, and a soft-touch casing combined to deliver the perfect size, grip and feel. This new smartphone will be available in a series of trendy colors: Sakura Pink, Alpine White, and Cat's-eye Black. Going a step further, the onscreen display style varies with the external color, making each smartphone a unique fashion statement.

The Liquid Glow brings together the power and the convenience of Ice Cream Sandwich, providing a user-friendly interface along with widgets to easily stay connected, entertained and updated. It also works with the latest voice-input engine from Google, which guarantees a continuous "open microphone" experience and streaming voice recognition.

The smartphone's 5 MP rear camera features an LED flash for low light, as well as panoramic image capture and touch focus. With Android Beam, photos can be shared by a single tap with another NFC powered Android device, without the hassle of launching application or pairing. What’s more, Android Beam can also share anything like contacts, favorite apps, music or videos instantaneously through NFC.

Please come and see the new Liquid Glow smartphone at Acer Pod, located inside the Google Android Booth, Hall 8 - 8C25.

The Acer Liquid Glow will be available in early summer 2012."
