Jim Corbett National Park is located in the foothills of Himalaya in the closest proximity of Ramnagar an small Town. Corbett National Park is the oldest national park of India, Situated in Nainital district of Uttarakhand State.

Altitude: 385-1100M Above MSL.

Rainfall: 1400mm-2800mm

Temperature: 4 degrees C to 42 degrees C

Corbett Tiger Reserve today holds probably the second largest population of free living tigers in the world.The reserve is thus one of the last remaining strong holds, which holds a potentially viable population of this majestic and critically endangered field.

Nearly 600 Asian elephants (Elephas maximums) also have a home in Corbett tiger reserve,and can be seen wondering leisurely along its length and breadth.Corbett National Park, along with the Raja ji National Park also represents the North-western most limits of Tiger and Elephant Distribution in the Indian subcontinent.

Jim Corbett National Park is also home of about 600 species of resident and migratory birds. This amazingly rich avifaunal diversity represents nearly 6% of the total birds species represented in the world and is more then the total bird diversity of Europe.

The 49 species of diurnal raptors found here are characteristic elements of this avifauna. The avifaunal diversity is at its peak during winters in Jim Corbett National Park India.

History

Jim Corbett National Park (the first National Park of India) was established in 1936. Name of park in 1936 was Hailey National Park named in the honor of Sir Hailey, the governor of united provinces. After independence the name of Corbett National Park was changed to Ramganga National Park in 1952. Name of Corbett National Park was finally changed to Jim Corbett National Park in 1957 named after the legendary hunter, naturalist-turned-author and photographer 'Edward James Corbett'.

Jim Corbett had helped in setting up the park and demarcating its boundaries. Corbett National Park is India's first national park and the first sanctuary to come under Project tiger in 1973 with the help of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The area of Jim Corbett National Park was increased in 1991 when the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary was added to the park.

Climate

The weather in Jim Corbett National Park is temperate compared to most other protected areas of India. The winter season in Corbett National Park lasts from November to February. The temperature may vary from 5 degree Celsius to 30 degree Celsius and some mornings are foggy. The summer season in Jim Corbett National Park lasts from March to June.

Summer temperature normally do not rise above 40 degree Celsius. The rainy season in Jim Corbett National Park covers the rest of the month. Rainfall ranges from light during the dry season to heavy during the monsoons. The summer rain cause flooding in the park. The annual rainfall in corbett national park ranges between 1400mm and 2800mm.

Get There

'Ramnagar' a small town forms the headquarter of Corbett Tiger Reserve. It is well Connected to important places by road and rail.

By Road : Ramnagar is connected by road to Delhi, Moradabad, Bareilly, Nainital and etc. State transport buses runs regularly from and to Delhi, Moradabad, Jaipur, Panjab, Haldwani, Nainital, Almora Dehradoon etc.

The approach routes are :

Delhi - Gajrola - Moradabad - Kashipur - Ramnagar (240 Kms)

Bareilly - Kichchha - Haldwani - Ramnagar (160 Kms)

Chandigadh - Saharanpur - Haridwar - Nageena - Kashipur - Ramnagar (450Kms)

By Train : A direct Train from Delhi to Ramnagar and Ramnagar to Delli runs daily.

Alternatively, one can come up to Haldwani/Kashipur/Kathgodam and Come to Ramnagar By road.

It Found 100 tree species, 50 mammals species, 580 bird species and 25 reptile species in Corbett National Park. Royal Bengal Tiger (although Copious) are not easily spotted due to exuberance of camouflage of thick jungle in the Corbett Tiger reserve. Dense forest, Ramganga and Kosi rivers with copious prey make Corbett tiger Reserve an ideal habitat for Tiger.

Tigers in Jim Corbett National Park also known to kill much bigger animals as Blue Bull (neel gai) or buffalo and even sometimes elephant for food but it happens in a rare case of food shortage. The most used pray of tiger are four kind of Deer (Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer,Barking Deer and Hog Deer), Wild Boar and some lesser known animals.

Jim Corbett National Park has enormous wild boars,weighing up to 80 Kgs, who provide a match for the tiger as a enormous male wild boar is competent of killing a tiger.

Apart from Tigers, Elephant, Leopard/Panthers, Leopard Cats,Jungle Cats, Fishing Cats, Himalayan Black Bears, Sloth Bears, Martens, Jackals, Dholes, Civets, Mongooses, Hares, Otters, Porcupines, Four kind of Deers, Wild Boars, Pangolins, Macaques, Langurs, Blue Bulls (Nilgai) are some other species which are found in Corbett tiger reserve India.

Leopards the next Predator after Tiger are encounter in hilly or hill touched areas of Corbett National Park India. MOST PREFERRED FOREST REST HOUSES OF TOURIST ZONE OF CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

Presently, CTR (Corbett tiger reserve) has five Tourism Zones. Of these the Dhikala Tourism Zone of Jim Corbett National Park has been the most preferred for many visitors. Entry to this Tourism Zone is Through the Dhangadhi Gate, located 18 km ahead on the Ramnagar-Ranikhet road. Access to this tourism zone of Corbett National Park is restricted to visitors holding permit for stay in one of the Tourism Complexes/ FRH in the Zone OR to visitors taking a conducted Tour organized by Corbett Tiger Reserve. REST HOUSES detail is following:-

Sultan

This is the first FRH to lie on the Dhangadhi-Dhikala road, at a distance of 5 km from the Dhangadhi Gate of Corbett National Park.The FRH has only Two Rooms. IT is specially suited for visitors looking for solitude.

Alternatively, the visitor has the option of driving to any other areas within this Tourism Zone of Corbett National Park. Catering facilities are not available. However, visitors can cook their own food in the FRH.

Gairal

This Tourism Complex of Corbett National Park is also situated along a bend in the Ramganga River. The old FRH with two bed rooms and the New FRH with Four bedrooms along with hutments are available.

The FRH enjoys a tranquil environment of great beauty. A Crocodile Pool is situated at a short distance. Gairal FRH of Corbett National park is excellent for wildlife viewing and Bird-watching. It is also convenient for relatively large groups. Canteen facilities are also available.

Sarpduli

This FRH is located at one of the best sites in Corbett Tiger Reserve, overlooking the Ramganga and a steep ridge across the river. It is well suited for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. Tiger and Elephant movement is fairly high in the area and offer good chance of sighting these animals.

A conveniently located watchtower nearby adds to the charm. Mugger can be often seen on the sandbanks while Goral are sighted along the hill slope. Catering facilities are not available. However, visitors can cook their own food in this FRH of Corbett National Park.

Dhikala

Dhikala FRH of Corbett National Park is renowned for its panoramic landscape of breath taking beauty. The accommodation here a varied and includes the historic Old FRH- built well over a century ago, New FRH, Cabins, Hutments, Log huts and Annexe.

Excellent facilities including a Restaurant and Canteen are available for visitors. Elephant rides, a well stocked wildlife library and audiovisual shows are also available. Accommodation in Dhikala Forest Lodge of Corbett National Park is generally extremely difficult to obtain.

Best Time to Visit - Jim Corbett National Park

The best visiting season of Corbett National Park is from November 15 to June 15. Jim Corbett National Park remains closed between June 16 and November 14, when the monsoons flood the river beds and cut the fragile road links. However one part of Corbett National Park i.e. Jhirana opens

round the year (but you can't book in advance) and Bijarani opens for the public on October 15 (it also depends upon weather conditions).

Going to national park

You can go there on trains from Delhi in almost 6 hours. You need 4 days to completely visit this wonderful natural landscape. After reaching there you need to do some paper work like filling forms and paying for accommodation. The park is open from 7am to 5pm.

How to shoot in Corbett national park

To capture the birds and animals in the wild need to understand and connect with them. You have to make them comfortable so that they feel right. Take an up to date camera with you and capture the pristine beauty of this magical park. What you need to do is

Get up before sunrise and start looking for your subject. Animals are up and out early in the morning.
To capture birds you should visit Sitabani zone. You will find number of species. But don’t forget to shoot photo of the Great Indian Hornbill and the swift yellow throated marten
If you want to have some nice action shots then slow down shutter speed and move the camera when animals or birds are walking running or flying.
Take great care of the light. Never shoot with the sun over your shoulder.
While shooting the landscape try vertical shots.it will add richness in your image by creating depth of field effect.
Shoot at the time of dawn and dusk. This time has low light and it will give ambiance to your image.
Try different perspective by changing angles and shifting positions.
While focusing on one subject, try black and white mages. Doing so will add mythical atmosphere to images. Also you will not be distracted by color.
Use polarizing filter to increase the contrast.
Don’t always stay near your car to take photos. Go ahead, hike out and take better pictures.
To spot the elephants Ramganga River is the best place.
Don’t forget to abide by the safety instruction given by park’s administrative authority.
