Digicel Blackberry Doctors – Corey Wood BB MD & Michael Rock BB MD

In this podcast, I interview the Digicel Barbados and Research In Motion (RIM) certified Blackberry Doctors Corey Wood and Michael Rock.

They tell me about the following:

Background Info

The truth is these guys are accumulating names almost as quickly as Ricky Reid aka Hypa Dawg, aka Lil Rick, I can't call all. (Bajan Joke)

Let me piece together the story for you. It started a little less than a year ago when Digicel launched its first Mega Store & Blackberry Centre (Previous Post).  The Blackberry Centre featured on the spot (double check on the spot isn't hyphenated) advice from Blackberry technicians, which was unheard of until then! Previously, the only way you could have your Blackberry seen by a Blackberry technician in Barbados was to leave it overnight.

And They Were To Be Called Blackberry Xperts

I have 2 theories on how these guys evolved from Blackberry technicians to "Blackberry Xperts"

Theory #1 : Prior to the launch of these Mega stores, the image fashion specialist at Digicel did not like the look of the words "Blackberry Technician" embroidered on the shirts to be pepared for Corey and Michael. It didn't connect with the visual experience of the Digicel Mega store and so they were called "Blackberry Xperts".

Theory #2 : Corey and Michael lobbied for a cool title since they were being thrust onto the front line far away from a quiet office and so they were called "Blackberry Xpert"

LOL, I could really go on and on, but let me stop there for good measure! Let's not take the joke too far, but let's fast forward this special to 2010!

And They Were To Be Called Blackberry Xperts

Now for 2010, I understand that the guys were getting so much praise for their work, that they decided amongst themselves it was time for a name upgrade. Management agreed and they were called "Blackberry Doctors". 

Hahaha just kidding, the true story is still out there. "Blackberry Doctor" is actually the name of the Radio show which Corey and Michael hosted every day (on different stations) over the 2010 summer and so the term came about from that show.

She also talks about how her perspectives on making money in the Creative Industries in the Caribbean has changed in the last 5 – 6 years and she gives her thoughts of how it might develop in the coming years.
