CORNING, NY – Yes, it’s true! National Book Award winning author Sherman Alexie is coming to Corning NY on April 8 for a 7:30 p.m. performance at The Corning Museum of Glass. The winter of 2014 has played havoc across the country and made no exception to The Rockwell’s two previously scheduled Sherman Alexie performances. According to Alexie’s agency, he is entirely committed to visit Corning and was highly disappointed with the weather and ill-health interruptions. Sherman Alexie is delighted to secure the April 8 date in Corning New York.

CORNING, NY - The Rockwell Museum is thrilled to announce that the Sherman Alexie program has been rescheduled and will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at The Corning Museum of Glass auditorium. Purchased tickets for the original program will be honored for the new date.

The event is currently sold out, however it is likely that seats may become available the evening of the event. Available seats will be sold at a first come, first served basis at the ticketing desk the evening of the event. For questions, please call The Rockwell Museum at 607.937.5386.

Community Can Help Knit a Scarf for Artemus at The Rockwell!

Corning, NY, November 6, 2013—Artemus, the buffalo bursting through the façade of The Rockwell Museum, doesn’t have much to keep him warm in the Corning cold, so local knitters at Wooly Minded on Market Street will knit Artemus a red-and-green scarf to wear during the bitter winter months. Knitters from the community are invited to help knit and crochet the scarf, which will take approximately 6,500 yards of yarn to complete.

Artemus’ scarf will be two-feet wide and 20-25 feet long to accommodate his 60 inch neck. The goal is to have him dressed before Thanksgiving. The Rockwell Museum is hosting open knitting nights on Thursday, November 7, and November 21, from 5:00 – 8:00 for any knitter who would like to take part. Just stop by Wooly Minded and pick up the yarn kit and directions. Those who would like to participate, but would prefer to knit at home, may also pick up supplies at Wooly Minded.

NEW! - Participate in this year's Parade of Lights

Corning's Gaffer District is excited to announce a new format for this year's 19th annual Parade of Lights, to be held in the Crystal City on Saturday, November 30th.

On Saturday, November 30th, 2013, guests and residents of the Crystal City are invited to Historic Market Street for the first Stationary Parade of Lights. This event will offer a new twist on the classic parade, where the floats remain in place and visitors can stroll at their own pace. The parade will feature many of the same groups as in previous years, including emergency vehicles, marching bands and community organizations. Floats will be parked along all five blocks of Market Street, including some adjacent side streets. The street will be closed to vehicle traffic, providing a safe environment for pedestrians.

American Planning Association Designates Corning's Market Street a Top 10 Great Street for 2013

Corning, NY - October 4, 2013 - The American Planning Association (APA) today announced the designation of Market Street as one of 10 Great Streets for 2013. Each year during National Community Planning Month APA's Great Places in America program names 30 exemplary streets, neighborhoods and public spaces to highlight the role planning and planners play in adding value to communities, including fostering economic growth and jobs.

APA singled out Market Street for its Victorian architecture, efforts by citizens dating back to the 1960s and 1970s seeking to protect the town's historic character, downtown capital improvements initiated by the city, and efforts to expand business ownership and activity along the street.

Corning Makes Top 5 “Most Fun” Small Towns in Rand McNally Best of the Road Contest

CORNING – Following a summer of voting, Corning has officially secured a spot in the final round of Rand McNally’s Best of the Road contest. Corning is among 30 exceptional towns from across the country to be chosen, and is one of five in the “Most Fun” category.

Even though Corning made it to the final round last year, the contest was completely different. Round two involved a team of travel writers visiting each town in a particular category to determine which should take the title. This year, each town must submit a video or photo tour along with an essay, proving why it is the best of the best.

“We know that your town is special. But now we want to see why your town should be the winner in the category of ‘Most Fun,’” said Rebecca Oistad, Vice President of Digital Strategy and Business Development for Rand McNally, in an e-mail alerting us Corning had moved on to the final round. “The judges want to be completely swept off their feet with your creative flair! So get ready to put your town in the spotlight.”

Corning’s competitors include Jim Thorpe, PA; Lombard, IL; Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH; and Nocona, TX.

American Bus Association Names GlassFest and Finger Lakes Wine Festival to North America’s 100 Best Events for 2014 List

CORNING – The American Bus Association (ABA) announced Monday that GlassFest, to be held on May 22-25, and Finger Lakes Wine Festival, to be held in July, have been designated as two of the Top 100 Events in North America for 2014 by an experienced expert tourism industry selection committee. Inclusion in the Top 100 list, published as a supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations magazine, indicates that GlassFest and Finger Lakes Wine Festival offer excellent entertainment values to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world, according to ABA.

With the release of the American Bus Association's 2014 Top 100 Events in North America, ABA celebrates 32 years of the program. What began as a way for motorcoach operators to incorporate new product into their itineraries has grown to one of the most sought-after lists by travel professionals, motorcoach operators and the general public.

Family Fun at the Curtiss Family Flying Festival on Saturday, September 14

Hammondsport, NY - August 14, 2013 - The Curtiss Fall Flying Festival will provide fun for the entire family on Saturday, September 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Depot Park in Hammondsport. The event is free to the public.

The traditional Glenn Curtiss Salute will take place at 2 p.m., when the visiting planes will fly up Keuka Lake, over the Village of Hammondsport, the Curtiss Museum and the Glenn Curtiss gravesite.
