Alright so it’s August 8 2018, and I was wondering if I was gonna get this blog up and running again or not. I’ve been trying since I started my new garden, and that was back in June. So, here we are. I’m still not sure how this whole blog thing is gonna play out. It’s been seven years since I last posted, and 2 years since I even had a garden.

I have a new garden now

Right in My Own Backyard - better late than never

It’s funny how going out to do just one thing can turn into a two hour gardening session. I went into the garden on Wednesday to pluck a couple of weeds I saw around the tomatoes, and before I knew it, I was weeding and fluffing the whole garden. I then found myself planting more seeds; which I wasn’t supposed to

Right in My Own Backyard - I’m seeing red

There are a few things coming to bear in the garden now. The beets are getting deeper red stems and leaf veins, the strawberries are ripening and the radishes are showing little red tops. As happy as I am to see all this progress, I can’t help thinking it’s all still a little slow going. Is it me, or are things on schedule and as they

Right in My Own Backyard - The fruit of my labour

A couple of days ago I noticed that one beefsteak and one of the sweet million tomato plants had started to show the very beginnings of actual tomatoes. Today, the sweet million has two teeny tiny tomatoes and now, I can see the beefsteak tomato from outside the garden. I also found a little pepper starting to grow on one of the bell pepper plants, and the strawberry plants are

Right in My Own Backyard–A good growth spurt

Evidence of a break in
I was out in the garden for several hours a couple of days ago (Tuesday June 15) I had only planned to go out and do a little weeding, but it turned into what seemed like an all day thing. Naturally, the weeding turned into a fluff fest, - Some of you will remember I’m obsessed with fluffing the dirt up even where I don’t even have plants yet - and that

Right in My Own Backyard - Yellow Beans Added

We had quite a bit of rain over the weekend. Most of the day Saturday and all day Sunday. I’m not complaining though; not in the least. The way I see it I don’t really care much for watering the garden, so I really appreciate God picking up the slack for me. We had a break Saturday starting in the afternoon. I decided to have an impromptu gardening session that

Right in My Own Backyard - Someone’s Been Eating My Porridge

I've added more bricks to the design and put a few more plants in. I don't know what's getting in there, but right from the off, something has been enjoying the fruits of my labour even before there’s any fruit! One tomato and one cucumber top were first to go. Now I’m noticing the cantaloupe leaves are quietly disappearing. I suspect it’s birds. Whatever it is seems

Right in My Own Backyard - Rhubarb Crumble

Rhubarb
