The 2027 Maple Festival will celebrate the Marathon Community’s 55th Maple Festival! The Maple Festival is a long standing testimony to the Community’s willingness to work together. The Festival has become a spring time tradition not only in the Marathon Community but it has become a tradition for the thousands of guests who look forward to being in Marathon each spring. From the earliest settlers collecting sap in wooden buckets to the modern producers using a tap line, the customs, stories, and traditions of making maple syrup will be shared on Maple Festival weekend. Festivals now under their belt, the Marathon Community has achieved some customs of their own. If it is spring time, it is time to be in Marathon, to enjoy one of nature’s sweetest gifts. From pancakes dripping with the sweetness of maple syrup to maple bacon infused with that goodness, don’t miss this annual event. All things maple lead to Marathon, where folks will be welcoming you! Are you interested in walking through history? Our four-component museum offers something for everyone. During this year of the 250th celebration of our country, a visit to the Central New York Living History Center’s four museums can help you learn about the past years of our local area.

The Brockway Truck Museum is devoted to the Brockway Company history including their furniture, carriages, and the trucks. Initially incorporated in 1875, Brockway was in business until 1977. The dependable, heavy-duty diesel trucks put this area on the map as Huskietown, USA.

The Homeville Museum and the Ken Eaton Collection of Military Memorabilia dating back to the Civil War will not disappoint. Model train layouts, railroading history, industrial memories, and local history, including famous musicians from the area round out this one of a kind museum. A new display featuring the Revolutionary War is underway to celebrate our Nation’s birthday.

The newest museum is the Antique Firehouse and First Responders Exhibit. The entire building features classic apparatus and artifacts used in firefighting from days gone by. The upstairs displays include exhibits from the police, sheriff, troopers, and EMS units from the Central NY area. 

The Big Red Barn is the center of our Agricultural Heritage Displays. Learn about our areas agricultural roots. Hear about cutting ice, milking cows, honey production, tractor history, and many other areas of farming. Grandma’s Kitchen & Parlor round out the displays with early examples of farm life.

Are you planning a Function?  The CNY Living History Center has a growing reputation of a great place to hold events and meetings. Our Venue Rentals are available feature spaces throughout the facility including our Café, 95-Seat Theater with overhead projection, Meeting Rooms, Outdoor Community Space, Garden and Veranda. We offer plenty of parking and handicap accessibility. We welcome Tour Groups and Gatherings anytime with prior arrangements. Discounted rates and Meal Packages are available upon request.

Established in 1999, Long Point Winery was envisioned by owner Gary Barletta and his wife, Rosemary. After starting with only one wine, their Rose, Ciera – LPW now produces over 20 varieties of wine, from sweet whites to bold reds.  Customer favorites are the Pinot Grigio, Rieslings, and Italian red wines, like Sangiovese and Barbera. Long Point Winery is well-known for its wide selection of dry, red wines, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Merlot and a unique red blend called Rubitage. LPW’s Merlot and Rubitage picked up silver medals at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition as did their 2024 Orabella and 2023 Cab Franc. Amelia’s deli at Long Point offers gourmet sandwiches, salads and charcuterie boards and is open Fri-Sun 11-4 pm. Customers can also attend wine and food pairing events. Long Point Winery offers quantity discounts on purchases; 5% off 3-5 bottles purchased, 10% off 6-11 bottles and 15% off  a case or more. The haunt, now in its 44th year, is the creation of Jim Coon who started the attraction when he was a Junior in High School. He built the first haunt in his family’s one car garage and then expanded into the driveway the following year.

“Each year it got a little bigger” Coon says.

“When I purchased my own home in 1996 on Madison Street the haunt moved there for a few years before moving to the Burch Building in Suggett Park.”

says Coon. The haunt moved to the Center for the Arts of Homer in 2018, but during Covid things had to change a little. “I was determined to have a haunt that year so we moved it outside and we chose a haunted hospital for the theme. All the actors were distanced from visitors or were behind plastic. The hospital theme just lent itself to what was happening at the time.”

After 4 years, the haunt returned to Madison Street. Coon was ready to go back to his roots of a small walk through with plenty of scares. “You’ll probably wait in line longer than it takes to go through it.” He says “but it’s worth it.”

Coon has tour guides take groups through the dark maze while telling a story about the unfortunate ghosts and ghouls that hide within the corners and behind curtains waiting for just the right time to jump out at guests.

“We try to scare, but we don’t want to traumatize.” Coon says.

For those looking for a low scare no scare option, the haunt will be open on Thursday, October 29th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm for kids night and if you can’t make it on Halloween the haunt will be open on Friday, October 30th also from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

For the second year in a row the theme of the haunt will be “House of Nightmares”. 

“Everyone has an anxiety about something” says Coon “whether it’s clowns, spiders or the dark, everyone has a phobia and we like to tap into those uncomfortable anxieties, but we also like to offer a little humor to offset the fear.”

Last year one room was titled the “Fear of Commitment Room” and was inhabited by ghostly brides and a moaning groom. What does this year’s haunt hold in store? Coon is keeping tight-lipped about it.

“You’ll just have to come and see for yourself…if you dare” He says with a wicked smile.

The Country Moose, located at the Richford Plaza close to Route 79 has been off to a great reopening start. The first three months we’ve been open have brought many old and former customers as well as a host of new ones. Many visitors and passers-by come through and stop by to see what we have.
