Any Country Squire residents ready to bring home a cute dog as a new part of their family? If so, there are lots of dogs ready to be adopted. Intelligent Cutie Pie Awaits her FURever Home

Onesie is a Border Collie (and maybe Lab/Shepherd) mix that we rescued a few weeks ago. This lovely girl was found abandoned on a back country road in Brighton, TN. She is about 35 lbs and 6 months old as of early December 2011.

Onesie is very playful and intelligent. This girl is a fast learner and she picks up commands very easily. Onesie loves to play fetch and have fun outside; but she knows to settle down peacefully when inside the house. She enjoys spending time with people and she gets along very well with other dogs and cats.

From Onesie’s foster mom: She is a wonderful dog and I just don’t understand how someone can dump her in the middle of a country road.

Onesie is housebroken and kennel trained. She is in great health, up-to-date on her shots, spayed, and ready for her permanent home. Will you please make room in your heart and home for Onesie this holiday season?

Izzy is one of 5 orphan puppies that were abandoned outside the vets office. We rescued them and they are now spayed/neutered, up-to-date on their shots and ready for adoption.

#6 of 8 Adorable Pups

Little Girl is a gorgeous puppy born to a pregnant rottweiler we recently rescued. In the middle of the Memphis summer heat, we found a very sweet stray roaming the streets with no one caring for her… she was close to delivering her puppies and one of our wonderful volunteers took her in and cared for her through their birth. These puppies are now old enough to be adopted. They have been spayed or neutered, fully vetted, and up-to-date on their shots.

Little Girl is a very sweet girl who has been socialized and gets along great with people of all ages and other animals.

Loving Young Mom is Looking for Love

Cleo is a loving bassett hound/beagle mix that was found wandering a neighborhood near Memphis. She is the mother to 5 adorable spaniel mix puppies (Angel, Gage, Janie Belle, Opie, & Stomper).

Cleo was found by a friend of one of our volunteers. Some neighborhood children were playing with this sweet stray dog. The lady began to place food out for Cleo and she also made a little doggy bed for her in the yard. Of course Cleo started visiting more often Unfortunately, within a couple of weeks, the lady’s husband threatened to take the Cleo to pound if she didn’t ‘get rid’ of her.

This is where Dogs 2nd Chance came in. We got this girlie and took her for a check-up at the vet… Turns out she was several weeks pregnant! Cleo has since delivered her adorable puppies and she is done nursing them. She is in good health, spayed, and up-to-date on her shots. This sweetie is now ready for her own home.

Will you please be that angel who gives her a second chance?

3rd of 5 Cotton Balls

Janie’s momma was a basset hound mix. We originally thought daddy must have been a spaniel, but these pups are presenting larger and we believe the father may have been a Bernese Mountain Dog. Janie and her siblings are a huge ball of fluff, love and energy!

These puppies are about 20 lbs and 11 weeks old as of late January. They are spayed/neutered, up-t0-date on their shots, and ready for their forever home today.

February Events at University of Memphis

Cheer on the Memphis Tigers this February 1st.

University of Memphis has an enrollment of over 17,510 undergraduate students with a semester-based calendar each year. The Cordova TN, Univ of Memphis crowd of students, who pledge with over 25 fraternities, are a part of over 70 campus clubs, and several sports teams for recreation.

Let’s take a look at the upcoming events at the University of Memphis:

A young alumni committee watch party is to be held on Feb 1^st to cheer the Tigers on against Southern Miss.
UMAR Breakfast Bunch is to gather at Perkins at 9 am on Tuesday, February 7th in the shopping center of Eastgate.
The CSD (Communication Sciences and Disorders) Alumni reception is to be held on Feb 23^rd at Hilton of East Memphis. The Cordova TN, Univ of Memphis crowd offers this reception for absolutely no cost.

Make These Mini Ham Sandwiches for Your Super Bowl Party!

The big day is drawing near. That’s right, in just a few short weeks, we’ll be celebrating Super Bowl Sunday. As everyone knows, the food at Super Bowl parties is just as important as the game itself. Instead of ordering pizza and opening a bag of Doritos, why not impress your party guests with this simple yet delicious mini sandwich recipe from our Fogelman CARES Cookbook?

Chow down as you watch the big game!

Hot Ham Sandwiches

Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (12 small rolls to a bag)
Provolone Cheese slices
Thin Ham Slices

Mix together:

1 small diced onion
1 stick butter at room temp
3 Tablespoons mustard
3 Tablespoons poppy seed

Cut rolls in half, put one slice of ham and cheese and then spread poppy seed mix like you would a condiment on one side of sandwich. Heat as instructed on Sweet Rolls, usually 10-15 minutes at 300.

Serve warm.

Green Resolutions for the New Year in Cordova, TN

Stop using paper towels at home, even if they still use them at work

In previous posts we talked about ways that you can go green in your apartment and at places like the grocery store, so it is only appropriate that we now apply the topic to New Year’s resolutions. After all, we’re just 2 weeks into the New Year and I have a feeling that some of you may not have crafted yours yet.

If you would like to combine going green with your New Year’s resolutions, here are some ideas:

-Stop using paper towels

-Support local retailers instead of shopping online

-Use the resources you already have and de-clutter versus doing more shopping

-Make one eco-resolution per month

-Buy books only if a friend or the library doesn’t have them

-Use up your produce before it goes bad so you don’t have to waste it and buy more

-When it comes to clothing, focus on quality over quantity

Buy Local at the Memphis Flea Market

You can find all sorts of treasures at the Memphis Flea Market

If one of your new year’s resolutions is to save money, one great way to do that is to shop at The Big One: Memphis Flea Market. At the flea market you can find wonderful bargains on all sorts of items from furniture and household items to clothing and jewelry to arts and crafts to antiques and collectibles and more.

The Memphis Flea Market will take place on January 21-22 at the Agricenter Expo Center located at Shelby Farms Park, which is just minutes from our community at Country Squire East / Brookside. Admission is $3 per person and children 12 and under get in free. There is plenty of free parking and a variety of concessions to fill your belly if you get hungry from all that bargain hunting.

Another great thing about shopping at the flea market is that when you buy from these local vendors, you’re supporting the local economy.

Happy New Year from us to you! Make it a good one, filled with quality time with family and friends, and enjoy some yummy food!
