Oh Yeah! 24 hours from now I have to be ready to evacuate this house.

This is the home I brought my almost 17 year old son home to. He has lived here longer than I ever lived ANYWHERE (until he was born).

Do you think I’ll make the deadline?

The Maze

Of course I will. That’s what mommies do!

Admittedly this was not my choice. I could have lived out my days in this house. I raised my family here. They had same age friends in all three houses across the street. My left and right neighbors both lost their wives (Nick is 96, Robt is 85) and I’ve been privileged to spend time getting to know them as people, not just “old folks”.

I carried this boy home from the delivery room nearly 17 years ago.

I stripped the girlie wallpaper off his bedroom walls 2 weeks before he was born.

My husband painted it white and I drew Lion King creatures on the walls.

So, I gotta get moving…by the way, I’m wearing the “Boot” on my almost not broken anymore foot…just for the move.

Next time you hear from me I’ll be in the new pad.

Another of my New York Times articles has revealed a stunning piece of scientific research.
Baboon Study Shows Benefit for Nice Guys who Finish 2nd

The finds indicate (IMHO) that Alphas may have to endure excessive stress levels as they leap from one continent to the next, shooting pirates, saving damsels and making the world safe for one and all.

The Beta on the other hand is in there, but it’s not his job to lead the way. He therefore gets some action, but can be more selective while keeping his cardiovascular system away from evil stress induced hormones.

In my words, while we may lust after Fonzie, we’re probably going to marry Richie Cunningham. There’s more to mating than black leather, thumbs up and a vocabulary defined by “Yo.”

Happy Friday,

I’ve neglected you. I am sorry about that.

You are in my thoughts though.

We sold the house and purchased a new one.

The swap is one week from today.

My hub and son worked for 3 solid hours last night gutting the garage.

I just kept saying, “Throw it away!”

A year ago I would have been toting the boxes and Hubby would have been recovering from his knee replacements.

Now he’s running around like a 20 year old and I’m sidelined.

Thank heavens our 16 year old is nothing but skin and muscle (we are not sure where those genes come from)

Greetings my friends,

I snarfed these tidbits up from one of those eternal email chains. They are actually good tips (especially the dryer ones).

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.
If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster..

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. (I usually just eat it with a spoon right out of the tub…now I can lick the beaters too)

You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water.
Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

Again, my favorite way to eat extra chunky is with a bowl – half strawberry jam, half peanut butter. Large spoon, a scoop of each. Downright tasty!

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

(I don’t endorse this one. Too many conflicting stories. I’m a mosquito magnet so I’ll let you know if it works here in Swamp East, Missouri)

Also, speaking of dryer sheets, they have a waxy feel right? Well, that stuff gunks up the filter so even if you empty the filter of lint everytime you still need to clean the trap with soap and a little scrub brush every six months. To check for buildup just see if your lint trap holds water.

If it doesn’t run right through then you better clean it. This can extend dryer life by double and your own life (since a clean trip can help prevent motor fires) indefinitely.

Like I tell my boys, “Keep it safe, keep it clean”.

XOXO

Citymom

Hope you all have wonderful plans to lay around and do nothing this weekend. Or at least to do something really fun.

I discovered Agritourism yesterday while grazing the net. We’ve all heard of Dude Ranches, but apparently in the last few years Farm Stays have become really popular. A city dweller, like myself, can spend a couple days and nights pretending to work hard and then go home. Yee Haa!!!

Not lookin to get branded!

I think the site has a few cattle ranches also for those of you in search of the illusive Cowboy of the old west, or rather a cattle drive.

There is one big drawback to the site.

I could not find an amenity that referred to cute cowboys. Or Hot Ranch Dudes, or even Marlboro Men!

Maybe a little more rump with those chaps?

And I was looking for the sole purpose of informing ya’ll about the level of entertainment…nothing more.

Also, watch for food. Unless you like to cook your own meals on vacation be sure all home cooking is provided by their home, not yours.

Check it out and help the farmers keep their farms.

xoxo

I repeat myself. AGAIN!

Don’t put anything into cyberspace unless you want it on every Billboard and Rotating Marquee on Earth!

In Your Tweetin Heart NY Times Op-Ed Columnist, Maureen Dowd, offers an interesting perspective on men, power and their need to flash the jewels.

But I’m here to defend the dudes. I know there are a lot of duds out there in that jumbo-pak of bottle rockets. But truthfully there are actually dedicated husbands and fathers who DO NOT cheat. In fact some of them do not even own a personal copy of their “picture-pak”.

And aren’t we all so grateful? Some things are just better left to the imagination.

Happy Thursday my friends,

Examples: I ask a question…People go right on talking.

I asked a co-worker, “How was your trip?”

He ignores me and walks in the other room.

Me, My spouse and son are riding in the car. A conversation is occurring.

I offer input. They keep on talking.

I am an invisible person.

We can be having an in-the-office conversation and the other three women refuse to acknowledge I have spoken.

I do have a soft voice. Only because I cannot tolerate people whose voices BOOM all the time! Sets my teeth on edge.

So, I put a spell on them and they will eat nothing but fish eggs and cicadas the rest of their miserable lives.

Hope you have a great weekend and I hope I sell my house.

OR, maybe I’ll keep this house and the old man and my kid can move into the new school district. I’ll get a do-over.

I feel better. Thank you for listening.

Happy Memorial Day – I hope ya’ll are enjoying the day.
It’s really nice and warm in Mid-Missouri – no storms today.

Please take a moment to reflect on the possibilities and opportunities we have in America. Those rights and that freedom have come at the cost of the lives of too many of our American Brothers and Sisters in arms.

I offer thanks for their service and appreciate everyday that I was born in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Thank you for standing watch over me and my family.

We’re still trying to sell this house. (It’s been on the market less than a month – Devoted Husband thought it would sell as soon as the sign was in the front yard).

Thus far he has not inflicted bodily harm on our agent. Bless Him.

And of course the reason we must move: all together now! Himself wants to go to a different high school. Self Explanatory right?

I’m painting a canvas to display above the mantel…I read a “Staging your Home” blog and so I am trying to Depersonalize our home.
AND my two sons, my almost daughter-in-law and Manny the bulldog arrived late last night. We are thrilled to be together again.

But the house may just have to sell itself.

Friends,

You’ve probably figured out I reside in Missouri – The Show Me State.

Here’s a video message from real people, who I actually know about how we can help the folks in Joplin, MO.

The United Way is waiving all administrative fees and will cover all online and text-to-give donation processing fees. One hundred percent of donors’ dollars go to Joplin. More information regarding donations and ways to volunteer are available at: uwheartmo.org .

This United Way is the real deal.

Best quote heard recently:

“What is with these tornados? Dorothy Gale was NOT from the Ozarks!”

Jill Womack, actress and extraordinary human being!

Hoping you’re safe and happy.
