Solution for people who suffer from excessive ear wax build up, including hearing aid users. A new service available from County Hearing Aid Centre, Kettering, Northamptonshire.

What is Ear Wax

Ear wax, also known by the medical term cerumen, is a yellowish waxy substance secreted in the ear canal. It protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungi, insects and water. Excess or impacted earwax can press against the eardrum and/or occlude the external auditory canal and impair hearing.
Ear Wax Problems

Excessive ear wax may impede the passage of sound in the ear canal, causing a conductive hearing loss. It is also estimated to be the cause of 60–80% of hearing aid faults. Impacted ear wax is also the main cause of feedback in hearing aids.

Removal of a wax build up is becoming more difficult as many GP Practices are reluctant to, or in some instances, refuse to remove wax due to the potential damage that can be caused by irrigation. In many cases, they insist that the patient treat the ear canal with olive oil for up to 3 weeks prior to treatment.

Solutions to Ear Wax Removal

County Hearing Aid Centre now offers a dewaxing service at our premises in Kettering.
This latest news post from County Hearing Aid Centre discusses how they can supply the latest in digital hearing aid technology and noise suppression products.

Noise exposure is one of the major causes of hearing loss. A single, close range gun shot can permanently damage hearing. Musicians and concert goers can also sustain the same degree of loss by being exposed to high levels of noise over a longer time period. Such noise exposure can result in tinnitus – a distressing “ringing” in the ears which can be a temporary after effect or a permanent condition. Prolonged exposure to noise can also result in a permanent hearing loss.

Advances in miniaturisation and technology now enable those most at risk of noise damage having all the benefits of digital electronic noise suppressors, custom made to fit their own ears, in lightweight, discrete instruments. The wearer is able to hear speech and everything that is going on around them while damaging loud sounds are suppressed.

At County Hearing Aid Centre we are dedicated to providing the very latest in digital hearing aids technology and noise suppression products. CENS (Custom Electronic Noise Suppressors) gives the wearer the ultimate in custom noise suppression. Ideal for the clay pigeon or game shooting enthusiast they can effectively suppress gunshot noise whilst allowing for normal conversation and mobile phone usage without the need for them to be removed. They also allow the wearer to hear approaching game and releasing traps before anyone else and do not interfere with the gun mount.

For more information on noise suppression products or the latest digital hearing aids technology get in touch with us today.

Since their initial launch, the Audeo from Phonak has been fitted to many of the County Hearing Aid Centre’s clients providing them with remarkable hearing ability and comfort. With the updated Audeo Yes taking the technology one step further, many more clients have enjoyed the benefits of the wireless technology which is built in to the stylish hearing aids. Now Phonak have taken another giant step forward with the launch of the Audeo Smart and the Audeo Mini.

Phonak, leading manufacturer of innovative hearing solutions, presents the new Audéo MINI and SMART, tiny and easy to use hearing aids that enable better speech understanding and communication in daily life. A wide range of colors allows wearers to express their individual style. Although there is no need to hide the stylish Audéo models, they impress with their small sizes: Audéo MINI is the smallest behind-the-ear model on the market; Audéo SMART is the smallest wireless hearing aid. Audéo MINI und SMART have been awarded with the iF product design award 2010.

The latest Phonak hearing aids optimize the sound experience and allow for confident communication even in challenging conversation situations. The new Audéo models include innovative technology that improves hearing of high frequencies such as children’s laughter, birdsong or even quiet whispers. This allows an enlarged spectrum of sounds. With Audéo SMART even conversations where the listener cannot face the speaker are no problem any more. The so-called ZoomControl technology enables the wearer to select the focus direction for effortless conversations in the car or when jogging with a friend.

Audéo MINI – small and flexible
Hearing aid wearers that appreciate a discreet solution will love Audéo MINI, which disappears completely behind the ear while offering maximum performance. It automatically adapts to changing hearing situations; the integrated directional microphones focus on the speech source and reduce surrounding noise, providing excellent understanding even in challenging conversation situations. Audéo MINI is especially easy to use and so attractive it is almost a shame to hide it behind the ear.

Audéo SMART – wireless freedom
Audéo SMART is the smallest wireless hearing aid on the market. It supports the wireless connection with modern communication and entertainment devices such as a telephone, TV and PC. Even mobile devices such as MP3 and video players, can easily be used in combination with Audéo SMART, supporting an active and independent lifestyle.

Audéo SMART also offers flexible control options: It can be operated directly at the ear via a push button which can be configured as a program selector or a volume control. Another option is the myPilot remote control that offers a large menu-driven color display and the ability to read out system status.

“Audéo MINI and Audeó SMART are the smallest and best-performing hearing aids in the behind-the-ear category. Audéo MINI disappears completely behind the ear, so it is almost invisible,” says Valentin Chapero, CEO of Phonak. “The high technological standard and the stylish design enable an optimal hearing experience.”

The Audéo products are suitable for people with mild to severe hearing loss and are immediately available.

If you are interested to learn more about the Audeo range and try a pair to see how they can make a difference to your lifestyle, contact us today to arrange a convenient appointment.
