The Challenges

No Dining Out: The concept is simple, lower your family’s dining out bill and add the money you save to your fund.

Minniemizing for the Mouse: Get in shape for your trip to Disney by walking at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The average person walks 8 or more miles a day at Disney World. Your feet will thank you!
Not going to Disney? Don’t worry. You can participate too. Just commit to working out at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week!

Budget Challenge: Can your family stay on budget this month for groceries, entertainment, dining, etc? Do you think you could even challenge yourself not to spend a dime 5 days this month? Be sure to report on your spending vs your budget every day. The goal is to be able to add the extra money saved at the end of the month to your fund!

Decluttering Challenge: Is your stuff starting to overtake your house? Do you feel like your kids room is full of too much junk and not enough fun? Have a box for items to donations, a box for items to sell and throw the rest away! At the end of the challenge, have a yard sale and add the earnings to your fund!

At the end of each month, I will pick FOUR winners who will each receive $25 to add to their fund. Look for the winners to be announced on the 3rd of each month.

No Dining: No dining out for us yesterday even though I almost did. Almost isn’t doing it thought. :)

No Dining

• Take a look at your current dining out budget. How much did you spend last month going out to eat? That is money that could have gone into your fund instead! Try cutting your out to eat costs this month and adding the difference to your fund.
• Set a weekly dining out budget, if you resist going out to eat, add that amount to your fund instead.
• If you were seriously about to go out to eat (like had your coat on and was going out the door or pulled into the drive thru and then pulled back out), add the amount you would have spent to your fund.
• Going out to eat and using a coupon or paying with a gift card? You could add that amount to your fund too. For example… if you had a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel and you used it, you could take $25 cash out of your budget and add it to the fund. Or if you used a $10 coupon, you could take $10 cash out of the budget and add it to the fund.
• You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
• You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
• Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
• At the end of the month, you will need to comment on the very last post to be entered to win. • It doesn’t take long for the stuff to start taking over your home. The kids rooms start overflowing with broken, neglected and just plain weird no idea where they came from toys. Your stockpile starts to spread from the kitchen, to the hall, to your bathtub. You start finding that the home for more and more items is the middle of your living room floor. Etc!
• It can be overwhelming to take on the task of decluttering your home, but the end rewards are so worth the effort. To make the process easy, I challenge you to find just 25 items every day to find a new home for. Get a box labeled donations, one labeled to sell, and one for trash. Go through 25 items a day and either put it in one of the 3 boxes or find a new permanent place for it.
• At the end of 30 days, you will have an organized home and you can have a yard sale to add more money to your fund!
• Be sure to post every day that you have gone through your 25 items and found a new home for them. Don’t just put them back where they don’t belong.

Did you know that there are over 800 Hidden Mickeys at Disney World? And to bring that magic home, I challenge you to find a Hidden Mickey in your everyday life. Be sure to take a picture and email it to me!

In this digital age with Websites and Apps from Touring Plans to long articles like Easy WDW with their Extended Crowd Calendar. Everyone seems to know which park will have the least amount of people for that day. Let me say that after a little trial and error last week I have determined which park will be the least busiest at any given day at Walt Disney World!

None of them!

According to all the websites, apps, magic eight balls they all said last week was going to be completely dead at Walt Disney World. But let me just tell you it was not! It wasn’t Christmas busy but everyday the big rides at all 4 parks were at 60-90 minute waits.

So before you just give up going let me offer you a few tips on how to pick the best park and make your trip a bit more enjoyable as your banging elbows with that Brazilian Tour Group.

Tip #1 – If a park was open late the night before most times it will be less busy the next day. Most people won’t go back to the same park the next day if they were there till midnight the night before.

Tip #2 – Take advantage of Morning Magic Hours! I have noticed that most people come walking in the park around 10-11am. Which means if you are there for Extra Morning Magic Hours that you will most times have the run of the park for an hour or two before the crowds show up.

Tip #3 – Use Touring Plans Lines App – If we are in a park that seems packed what I will do is whip out the Touring Plans Line App and check the Big 4 Rides. Which are Soarin, Dinosaur, Tower or Terror, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Most times if those lines are over 90 minutes that park will be way to crowded for my tastes. Ok before you ask me about Toy Story Midway Mania, Peter Pan and Expedition Everest keep in mind those rides are always going to be slammed no matter how busy the park attendance.

If you follow those 3 tips you can pretty much avoid most crowds at Disney World. Unfortunately with the invention of Crowd Calendars and Disney Free Dining you can pretty much expect crowds at all parks 365 days a year

Have you debated on purchasing Disney gift cards to pay for your trip? Maybe there has been a great deal on gift cards at your local grocery store but you are worried about purchasing them because you don’t know where they are accepted? I actually get asked this question a lot.

Disney gift cards are accepted at almost every single restaurant, resort and merchant on Disney property. The only ones I have found that do not accept gift cards are cash merchants (like the ones that sell the light up toys before the parade or the balloons at the park entrance). I have used Disney gift cards to pay for my package before I arrive, tickets, souvenirs, meals, etc.

I also have discovered that I can add a credit card to my resort reservation for Key to the World charging privileges. They won’t charge the credit card until it either reaches $500 in charges or the day before you check out. I stop by the front desk every few days during our trip and pay off the balance with the gift cards. This way I do not have to carry a ton of gift cards in the park with me.

Disney gift cards do not expire and they do not charge you a fee no matter how long you wait to use the card.

So next time you see a perk on a Disney gift card, don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

If you are in debt or live paycheck to paycheck, Couponing your way to Disney (or the goal of saving money for something you thought you couldn’t afford) might seem completely out of reach, but it’s not. It may take you longer than someone who is debt-free or someone who has extra income to pad their fund, but you will reach your goal eventually!

Here’s why you can Coupon to Disney even if you are in debt:

#1 – By Couponing to Disney you won’t be adding to your debt by taking a vacation. Insead, you can grow your fund by finding the CASH in your budget to pay for a trip to Disney. While it may take you longer, by not charging it on a credit card you’ll save yourself months or years paying it off. We have paid cash for ALL of our Disney vacations.

#2 – You won’t be sacrificing your bills by Couponing to Disney. I don’t recommend that you take a specific amount out of each paycheck or getting a second job to grow your fund. It is about finding the money you haven’t accounted for/earmarked for other areas of your budget.

#3 – You won’t be putting off resolving your debt. I feel that a Disney vacation shouldn’t involve you sacrificing your credit or your livelihood. If you get unexpected money (I call this found money), don’t put it all in your fund. Take a look at your budget and delegate that money to the area that needs it the most. You could always choose to add just a small percentage of all found money to your fund and use the rest to pay off your debt/build your savings.

So what should you do if you are in debt and you want to Coupon to Disney? I highly recommend that you pick up the book Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey from your local library. This book completely changed our lives and the way we use our money. It helped us to get on track, get out of debt (except for our mortgage) and build our savings.

Remember, Couponing to Disney is all about saving money you would have spent otherwise. It’s about finding money left in your grocery budget that you would have spent if you weren’t couponing. It’s about finding creative ways to save and make money like doing rebates, surveys and more. Designating these savings & earnings toward your fund gives you a great incentive to follow through- since you are working towards paying for something you thought was out of your reach.

I often talk about how being brand loyal to something can actually cost you money and that you need to be open to trying different brands and even generic versions of products. However, there are 3 products  I never purchase the generic version of because it actually costs me more money (in quality) than I save. And I am sure you will agree with me on this one.
