Publix had a ton of great deals last week so we stocked up on items we needed like Capri Suns (donated a bunch to my daughter’s class for Field Day) and Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. We also grabbed a couple DiGiorno pizzas that we keep in the freezer for the babysitter to make on our date nights.

In total, I got $99.48 for $59.24. Not as great as I wanted to do, but hubby was happy (he went shopping with me).

Winn Dixie had a great sale this week and I really lucked up with some clearance meat finds. They had these neat sales where if you bought a bag of dog food, you got 3 different dog treats and a can of wet dog food for FREE and if you bought 3 select General Mills cereals, you got free milk, bagels, cream cheese and bacon.

I got around $115 for $48.54. They have a store card, so my total before the card was somewhere around $115.

I add to my trip fund by treating reimbursement checks like “found money.”

I volunteer for our church’s children’s group and our school’s PTSO, as well as Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I buy supplies for these non-profits: food for a fundraiser dinner, Boy Scout awards, flier copies, or T-shirts. I pay cash or put the items on a rewards credit card (that I pay off monthly), and then turn in a copy of the receipt to the organization’s treasurer.

There’s almost always a lag time. Sometimes I get the reimbursement in days; other times it takes weeks or even more than a month before the check catches up with me. By that time I haven’t missed the cash, or the credit card bill has often been paid. Since I can’t count on when the reimbursement check will arrive to pay our usual bills, it’s like getting a rebate check – found money.

When I’m aggressively saving for a trip, I put the whole check in my fund, even if it’s over $100. Small checks always go in; bigger ones sometimes I split between my trip fund and the checking account.

Since I have the flexibility to front the money, I can serve these organizations that help my children. I can also use the money I get back to pay for trips that make great family memories!

If you are headed to the eye doctor soon to try out contacts, you might want to print off a certificate for a FREE 30 day supply of contacts. I stopped by our Vision Center to inquire about their eye exam and if they would accept this 30 day trial certificate. She said that they provide a generic pair of contacts with the exam (that are only good for a week) but that you do need to bring in the certificate if you want to try a specific brand. I showed her my certificate and I go back next week to try out the contacts.

Be sure to use the product locator on their site to find a participating eye doctor near you (there were 5 in my town alone).

Reader Lorie shared this tip and of all the “lists” I make and all the yard sales I go to scouting a good bargain, I never thought about doing the two together to save!

I keep a running list of household items that I need like water glasses or small rugs and items needed for school plays. Then I look for them at garage sales all summer.

I just put a notepad on the fridge for this purpose!  Now when I think of something I need around the house I will add it to my list.  I always remember better if I have a list anyway.  Now I will have a shopping list for yard sales!

Do you always find yourself hunting for your iPod/iPhone/iPad cable? I know I am! Amazon has the generic version of the charging cord for just $0.99 shipped for everyone. I have this cable and I am currently using it to charge my iPhone. It works great and we have had no issues with it at all.

I am going pick up a 6 foot cable for the iPhone for $2 shipped. We sometimes plug in our iPhone and iPad and play it while it charges.

It does look like these won’t be received until June 13th, but they usually come faster then that.
