Enjoy free breakfast on Swagbucks. Best of all, there is a Starbucks location in all 4 parks and 2 at Disney Springs.
4. Southwest – Cash out for Southwest gift cards and save on your out of pocket cost for this expense. You can use up to 4 forms of payment to purchase flights for Southwest. This means a limit of 3 gift cards and one credit/debit card as one scenario. Therefore, I recommend cashing out for higher value Southwest Gift Cards, since you are limited.
5. Entertainment Options at Disney Springs – Disney Springs is an area with shopping, dining and entertainment for guests. If your group loves movies, consider cashing out for an AMC gift card to use at Disney Springs. You may also wish to visit Build-A-Dino inside TREX at Disney Springs, in which you can use a Build-A-Bear gift card from Swagbucks.

Additionally, consider a Walmart, Target or Amazon gift card to stock up on vacation essentials (sunscreen, luggage, new clothes etc.).

Disney gift cards can be used to pay for Resort hotel stays, park tickets and more.

I was going through my lunch meat drawer in my fridge the other day and found bits and pieces of food.

Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger sliders are simple to make with few ingredients. I decided to make these recently when I saw a $1.50/1 Hawaiian Rolls digital coupon pop up on my grocery store rewards app.

Ingredients:

• 1 lb hamburg
• Breadcrumbs
• Salt & Pepper
• Hawaiian Buns
• Cheese
• Toppings such as: pickles, lettuce, tomatoes

Recipe:

• Mix 1-2lbs Hamburg, 1 cup breadcrumbs, salt and pepper.
• Pre heat to 400 degrees
• Flatten burger mix in pan or oven safe dish
• Cook for 15-20 minutes
• Keep rolls together and cut in half, add Hamburg and toppings

What is variable peak pricing (VPP)? VPP pricing encourages people to shift the time they use energy, by rewarding those who use power at non-peak times with a lower cost. Simply put, use power during off peak times to save on your rate (my supplier is calculated by daily pricing).

In my home, Eversource is our supplier, and their on-peak times are 12 (noon) – 8pm, Monday through Friday. Any other time is considered off-peak, which includes weekends.

Panera Bread

Look under the Family Feast Value Meals on the website or mobile app.

Panda Express

You can order their Family Meal Deal with 3 large entrees and 2 large sides off their drive up menu, app or website.

Other restaurants

Check your local Texas Roadhouse, Carrabbas, Buca di Beppo, Cracker Barrel, Outback, Applebee’s, Fazoli’s and Zaxby’s to see if they are still participating.

Local mom and pop restaurants might also have family meal deals.

Coffee filters are relatively expensive for a large amount of them. Consider these alternative uses for coffee filters around your home to save money and time!

1. Cleaning glass & chrome. Coffee filters are streak free, making them great cleaning mirrors and windows.

2. Cooking fried foods. Instead of using a paper towel, use coffee filters to absorb grease when cooking fried foods. Such as for bacon or chicken fingers.

3. Strainer. You can then use a coffee filter as a strainer to save frying oil! This same method can be used for straining soup stock.

4. Coffee Filter crafts. A simple google or Pinterest search will get you many ideas for crafting with coffee filters. Perfect for frugal craft ideas with the kids.

5. Microwave cover. Use a coffee filter to cover a bowl when reheating splatter hazards in the microwave.

6. Storing China. Place a coffee filter in between China plates when storing, to prevent damage.

7. Christmas Ornaments. Give your ornaments an extra layer of protection with coffee filters as a wrap.

8. Polish Remover. Ran out of cotton balls? Give a coffee filter a try next time to remove nail polish.

9. Preserve Cast Iron. Place a filter inside your cast iron pans to prevent rust and absorb moisture.

1. Track Spending for One Month

Make a commitment to track your spending for one month. It is OK to spend normally, as long as you are tracking it throughout one whole month. Then, at the end of the month see where most of your spending is going and what areas you can cut back on to add to your savings.

2. Negotiate Lower Rates

Have you been consistently making payments on a credit card? Being in good standing is a good time to negotiate a lower rate, simply call and ask if you qualify for a lower interest rate. The worst that can happen is they say no. Also, look at an itemized cell phone, cable, etc. bills to see if anything can be cut out.

3. Check for unclaimed money

One in ten are owed money they forgot about or didn’t know about! Go to National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators to search for your unclaimed property. It costs nothing to search.

4. Reconsider Subscription Services

Make a list of all current add-on or subscription services you currently have. Can you live without any of them? If yes, that is more money monthly that can do to savings or debt payments.

Stock up at lowest price. This is a golden coupon rule, that is harder to follow with perishables. Even so, there are ways to preserve eggs if you come across a great deal. Consider looking up recipes to dehydrate eggs or how to freeze egg mixtures to prolong the life of eggs.

Shop Drug Stores & Dollar Stores. At my local grocery store, eggs start at $4.49/dozen. At my local Family Dollar, they are currently $2.50/dozen! Consider stopping by your local dollar store or drug store to check out pricing on eggs. Many shoppers overlook the fact that these stores carry eggs.

Loss Leaders. Look for eggs as loss leaders at your local stores by browsing weekly ads. A loss leader is a marketing stradegy used by grocery stores where they sell an item at a price that actually loses them money! The reason they will do this is to get you in the store, and then hope that you buy more while there. Look for loss leaders most often on the first page of grocery store ads. Also look for egg sales in weekly drug and dollar stores. Walgreens has had in-store coupons in the past in their weekly ads on eggs.

Walt Disney Studios started a tradition of creating annual Christmas-themed greeting cards. Early years of the greeting cards featured illustrations & designs by such legends as Tom Wood, Hank Porter, Bob Moore, Mary Blair, John Hench, and Paul Wenzel. Why a greeting card? It makes people feel as though they are part of the family. Plus, they were able to showcase new films, and later the parks, through art on the Christmas card.

Walt Disney himself said Christmas season appealed to him for one reason:

“One reason the Christmas season appeals to me,” Walt Disney said, “is that it makes us suspend business-as-usual routine and let our minds soar for a while.”

Now, the cards serve as an interesting timeline of The Walt Disney Company. Take a look back at some of the Christmas cards throughout the years.

1954

This years card featured a vision of Disneyland park, which opened the following year.

1956

This year’s Christmas Card celebrated the grand opening of Disneyland with a colorful display.

1959

This year’s art was created by Paul Wenzel, Sleeping Beauty Castle was a recognizable icon at this point.

1962

Disneyland was not featured every year on the card, however Sleeping Beauty Castle made another appearance for the 1962 card.

1971

Featued on this year’s card was a representation of Seven Seas Lagoon & Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort, which opened the same year. This card folded into a small gift box!

1982

This year marked the Disney World expansion, with the opening of Epcot Center (now Epcot), an ambitious project.

1984

This year’s card featured Tokyo Disneyland and Characters in a rare blizzard, that is real snow!

1997

Another snowfall made the card this year, featuring Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant at Disneyland Paris after an unusual snowfall.

2000

Recognize this snowcapped Grizzly peak? It was featured in this years Christmas card to celebrate the upcoming opening of Disney California Adventure park. This time, not real snow!

2018

This years card featured vintage cards and a warm holiday greeting.

Having favorite stores isn’t a bad thing when it comes to savings. You can easily drive yourself crazy if you try to follow every single store for every single deal. Eventually it becomes too much white noise and it drives you right into full retail price’s waiting arms. Having favorites help you prioritize and not fall into the trap of spending too much money in the name of savings. Following your favorites is the internet version of the Savings to Disney tip of familiarizing yourself with the stores you frequent most.

Find the best way to follow your favorites!

Pick your favorites. Too many deals to sort through can cause saving fatigue. Identify the stores/items that are most popular with your family. Trying to find “sneakers on sale” is going to yield a bazillion responses. But choosing to follow one or two particular sneaker stores is going to narrow your results to a more manageable amount.

Get on your favorites mailing list. I know, I know. We all have full in-boxes, but hear me out. Did you see the awesome Fisher Price Little People deal that was posted the other day? I did. In my in-box. Because I am on the mailing list. Little People are the gold standard for my girls. And the Disney Little People? Get out of here, it’s like Christmas three times over. Last year they had a similar sale and I was able to pick up most of my munchkin’s birthday presents. You better believe I am on that mailing list.

Check your favorites’ websites daily. Companies love to do flash sales that they only advertise on the websites. Free shipping, 40% off clearance, and BOGOs can help you stock up for holidays and shore up your gift closet. I check five different websites everyday. It takes me about six seconds and I keep up to date on the latest sales. Pro-tip! For my Swagbucks users, use your website checks as your search terms when trying to get that Search bonus. Follow your favorites AND earn SBs!

Like your favorites on social media. Companies love to do giveaways and new product announcements on their social media accounts. You don’t want your feed to get too cluttered, so choosing a few favorites to follow can keep you up to date without your feed becoming one big commercial.

1. Store Credit Discounts

During checkout most big retailers will ask you if you have a store card, and if you sign up you can save X amount today. Politely decline, as the interest rate on the store cards are not worth the one-time savings.

2. Extended Warranties

Buy an electronic, an appliance and more and you will be asked if you want an extended warranty. Instead of doing this, know the condition of your current items and start funds for those that will need replacing in the next couple of years.

3. Gift Wrapping

If it’s not complimentary, then do it yourself. Exception, if it’s being donated to a non-profit, check with your accountant if it can be a tax write off.

4. Quicker Shipping

Plan ahead to avoid having to pay up for shipping. The faster you need it, the more it will cost. Plan ahead!

5. Paying For It Later

Avoid putting gifts on credit cards or buy now, pay later plans. Both can have hidden expenses that make it not worth it if you miss a payment. Instead, only buy what you can afford to pay for now.

Repurposing items is both a great way to save money and a great way to keep items out of the landfill. I asked the SavEars to share some of their best repurposing tips with us:

1. Look at items before you toss them – Catherine’s tip

My most recent endeavor to save money has been re-purposing. Before tossing stuff in the trash (to just go sit in a landfill somewhere) I try to look at it and decide if it could be useful somewhere in my house. Baby wipe/flushable wipe containers are one of my favorites. There are so many different things around my house I can organize in them. My husband has been collecting wooden pallets from work and other businesses around town and doing all sorts of cool things with them. He has built storage crates and shelves for my stockpile, and is almost finished making wall mounted folding desks for our children. 2. Intentionally save plastic containers – Laura’s tip

When I buy deli meat that comes in a Tupperware type container, I save the container after I use up all the meat. I then wash it in the dishwasher and use it around the house to store stuff. I have one in my pantry right now holding some individual packets of grits and one in my bathroom drawer right now holding some hairties!

3. Unique use for grocery sacks – Kim’s tip

I use the plastic shopping sacks you get from the stores when you grocery shop as a “homemade” shower cap. I hate having to flat iron/blow dry my hair everyday because the dammage. so I just put a sack on my hair and twist the handles in a tight kno in the back of my head…and make sure it is covering all areas. Works great.:0)

Tara’s bonus tip

I do that! I use mine for a cap when coloring my hair, because we all know they don’t give you caps with the cheap coloring kits. sometimes i use them as the gloves too… something always comes up and I have to take the gloves provided off and can never get them back on without a mess.

4. Create lawn games – Laura’s tip

I saved 10 Coffee Mate creamer bottles and painted the insides white and put sand in the bottom and we have our own set for lawn bowling,…easy peasy. CHEAP.

I cut the bottom off of a 1/2 gallon OJ jug and use it as a funnel and also as a game called SCOOP,…get a tennis ball ans toss it back and forth,..catching it- in the scoop. . :O)

5. Gift leftovers – Bree’s tip

When margarine and cool whip containers are empty, I use them to send leftovers to my family for the holidays. The potato salad, the dressing, it all goes into the containers so I don’t waste paper plates and aluminum foil

I often wonder what I should take to someone who has a new baby, are recovering from a sickness/surgery or they are mourning the loss of a loved one. So I asked the SavEars what they suggest and here are 5 great ideas.

1. Sausage and wild rice casserole…(this was brought to my sister when she had my nephew and now I love it)

Ground sausage(cooked and drained)
wild rice (cooked according to directions on package)
small thing of sour cream
and 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Mix together and bake in oven for 30 min at 350 degrees.

2. Right after someone has lost a love one I take over food for them to be able to share with others as they pop by. I will cook a bunch of boneless chicken in the crock pot and then add BBQ sauce for pulled chicken sandwiches. I get a big bag of rolls from Costco or Sam’s Club (30 dinner rolls) for the sandwiches. I also make a big bowl of pasta salad. I use the wacky pasta if I have it or just the rotini pasta, with broccoli, carrots, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and any other nice fresh vegetables I might have on hand. Add a can of black beans and/or pinto beans rinsed and drained. then toss in my favorite italian salad dressing. It is always a big hit.

3. Broccoli, rice, chicken and cheese casserole! Reheats well. Cooked chicken breast ( I boil in chicken broth)/white rice cooked to package directions/cream mushroom soup/steamed or frozen broccoli Mix ingredients together in a baking dish and top with shredded yellow cheese! A dessert of pie or brownies

4. I take salad, chicken casserole, rolls & toll house pie.

Chicken Casserole
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
16 oz sour cream
2-3 cups cooked shredded chicken
1 sleeve ritz crackers, crushed
1 stick butter

Mix together soups, sour cream & chicken (can add a little stock if too thick). Put into 9 x 13 pan. Top with crushed crackers then pour melted butter over. Bake at 350 until brown & bubbly. YUMMY!!!

Toll House Pie
Frozen deep dish pie crust
2 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c plain (all purpose) flour
3/4 c butter (not margarine)
1 c chocolate chips
1/2 c pecans (optional)

Preheat oven to 325. Beat eggs until frothy. Add sugars & flour. Beat until smooth. Beet in softened butter. Stir in choco chips & nuts. Pour into pie crust & bake 45 minutes – 1 hour at 325. Serve warm with ice cream & a cup of coffee. Tastes just like a hot from the oven chocolate chip cookie!

5. Swiss Chicken
Layer 6-8 boneless, skinless breasts in baking dish. Cover each breast with a slice of swiss cheese. Mix 1 can cream of chicken with 1 can of water and pour over chicken. Melt 1/2 stick butter and mix with about 3/4 cup of herb stuffing. Cover chicken with stuffing and bake at 350 for an hour.

Usually I divide the recipe into 2 baking dishes and take 1/2 to someone and save the other 1/2 for my family’s dinner. There’s plenty to share!

I use it for onions, bell peppers, zucchini, and other veggies that I need to dice for recipes. I mainly use it for onions and it makes life SO MUCH BETTER! No more struggling to dice up things really small and cry while you do it. Or buying frozen onions to avoid the process all together (which is how this saves me money). Plus I find I use a lot more veggies because it is easy to dice them up.

This vegetable dicer is nicely suited for family meal prep and far superior to awkward and fiddly chute choppers that never work like you’d hoped. It produces 2 sizes of cut pieces, the larger of which I think is perfect for Potatoes O’Brien. The smaller size I like for taco onions. Generic products are the store’s brand of products. Walmart has Equate and Great Value. Sam’s Club has Member’s Mark. Costco has Kirkland and so on. Sometimes you will find generic a substantial amount less than the name brand (my sister in law bought CVS’s generic Emetrol today and saved $4), sometimes it is just a few cents cheaper and sometimes it costs more! That’s right, sometimes the generic cost more than the name brand.

Shoppers are of the mind set that you have to buy generic to save money. But couponers know that the generic is often not the best price. When you combine a sale on the name brand product with a coupon, you can usually get the name brand cheaper than you would pay for the generic.

But when you need it now and you don’t have a coupon, generic is usually the best way to go. Generic products have come a long way since we were kids. And almost every generic line of products is backed by a money back guarantee. If you don’t like the product, you can return the unused portion to the service desk for a full refund.

But always, always, look at the prices for both generic and name brand products before you buy them. I once found General Mills Wheat Chex for 50 cents less than the generic version.

This tip comes from my reader Sherrill….

Most people think about plastic gallon storage bags and ONLY think about the zipper variety. But you can buy a box of the regular old twist tie variety for a fraction of the cost. Usually a box of 100 will be cheaper (at say Wal-Mart) than 20 or so of the “zipper” kind. Besides being a cheaper way to store many items, these are PERFECT for wrapping baked good items for fundraisers (think school, church, etc.). A dessert size plate filled with your goodies fits down perfectly in these bags. Close with a twist tie (leave some air at the top) and then some curling ribbon for an excellent presentation, and you won’t have to worry about plastic wrap sticking to frosting or fudge. :)

These are a couple random tips that probably won’t save you much money, but they are handy:

• When getting ready to paint, take a regular paper plate and glue it to the bottom of the can. It will catch the drips and potentially save your carpet!
• Did you know there are tabs on the side of aluminum foil boxes that you can push in to keep the foil from coming out of the box as you roll it?
• There is a way to close a bag of chips without clips or rubber bands and without the fear of it coming undone. Watch this video to find out how.
• If you need to slice a piece of meat into small pieces, try partially freezing it first. It will make the meat stiffer making it easier to slice (I do this ALL the time!)
• Instead of throwing away the paper from a stick of butter, put it into a baggy in the fridge. When the recipe calls for buttered pan, use the paper to butter the pan.

Are you a busy person? There are these awesome categories of meals called “Crock Pot Dump Meals” that make dinner easier!

I was looking for a new recipe to try today and came across a few that I think you’ll like.

Meal #1 – Garlic Parmesan Chicken, Potatoes, Carrots

2 Chicken Breasts
Small Potatoes (I got a 24oz bag of new potatoes)
Baby Carrots (I used 1/2 a bag)
1 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray Garlic Parmesan

Place the Chicken Breasts in the bottom of your Crock Pot or Instant Pot.
Put in the potatoes (I quartered mine)
Put in the Carrots (I cut mine in half)
Pour in the whole bottle of Sweet Baby Rays

Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8.

I used the Instant Pot as a Slow Cooker for this recipe.

Meal #2 – Pulled Hawaiian Chicken:

2 large chicken breasts
Half a bottle of your preferred BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ)
Small can of crushed pineapples
Cook on high for 4 hours and pull apart chicken. Serve as a sandwich, over rice, whatever you want. Is great reheated too!

Meal #3 – Stuffin’ and Chicken

A few boneless chicken thighs (or breasts, but I think they get dry), a box of stove top stuffing, two cans of cream soup (I use mushroom, but chicken works too), and some chicken broth (at least half a box, but adjust to taste). Stir everything but the chicken in the crockpot, put the chicken on top, and cook on low for six hours or so. Salt and pepper to taste. Add a little broth and stir if it gets too dry. If you feel really ambitious, get one of those steamable bags of peas, steam them in the microwave, and put them over the finished product.

Meal #4 – No Sear Pot Roast

Pot roast! No searing needed.

1 lb bag of baby carrots

1 lb bag washed baby potatoes (fewer if small slow cooker)

2-3 lb chuck roast (or other cheap roast)

1 package ranch seasoning mix

1 package brown gravy mix

1 c. Beef broth

Put everything in slow cooker in order listed. No meat searing needed. Cook on high 6 hours or low for 8 hours.

Here are 10 Tried and True Money Saving Tips To Implement Today.

1. You don’t need a full dryer sheet. Try cutting yours in half. You’ll never notice the difference and a box will last you twice as long. You can also cut your facial cloths in half too! I tried this with baby wipes and that didn’t go over so well…

2. This is kind of a well known one, but…eat before you go grocery shopping. Just enough to make sure you’re satisfied. If you shop on an empty stomach, you’re more likely to get things you don’t really need just because they sound yummy right then! And if you shop when you’re too full, it’s likely you’ll skip over things you might need! – Kasey

3. For us it’s meats. It’s one of the most expensive things on our grocery list. I butterfly all of our steaks and chicken breasts thus doubling the amount we have, and reducing cook time so it costs less to cook. We eat less that way too so it’s less on our waistlines.
