The Financial District, also known as FIDI is obviously most well known as the neighborhood of the World Trade Center, Wall Street and what many consider to be the nation's financial capital. Did you know Wall Street got its name because it used to be an actual wall to protect people from the Indians? So while I could focus today's Five on Foot on many of the obvious attractions and numerous financial and architectural landmarks that make of this neighborhood, I figured I'd highlight some lesser thought of options for those heading down to the land of skyscrapers and three-piece suits.

ONE. Elevated Acre

Lounge on this grassy knoll smack in the middle of FIDI. Grab a few pals, a picnic basket chock full of yummy, healthy snacks, an upbeat selection of tunes on the 'pod and enjoy a sunny afternoon lolling around and enjoying good company and great views.

TWO. TJ Maxx + Century 21

It's the battle of the bargains between the newbie TJ Maxx and veteran Century 21 in the cities financial capital. If you have an afternoon off, you can scoop up some epic designer bargains at both locations while everyone else is feverishly working around you! Case in point, I just snagged a pair of Celine trousers shorts for $60! But beware, this is not for the faint at heart - things can get crazy and you definitely have to do some searching - I'm happy to accompany you and show you my deal finding tricks!

THREE. Stone Street

between Whitehall and Broad Streets

Tucked among the financial skyscrapers lies this preserved 19th century New York pathway that feels completely magical and uncharacteristically out of place among its somewhat stark surroundings. Stone Street offers pedestrian friendly walking and during the summer months, rows upon rows of tabletops to dine al fresco with your favorite group of gal pals or arm in arm with your beau. From Smoragas Chef to Mad Dog and Beans to Adrienne's, the cultures all meld together as people nosh mid-street.

One of my very favorite NYC spots.

FOUR. Staten Island Ferry

The cheapest + most enjoyable way to see the Statue of Liberty and great multi-borough views. What can I say? I continually think that someday all free things come to an end, so you really have no excuse for not hoping on and enjoying the scenic ride to and from Staten Island. I have been in and up in the Statue of Liberty, and I promise you - this is still my favorite way to see Lady Liberty. And you don't have to lose the better part of your day if your to-see list is a mile long!

FIVE. Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club

Wind down the evening on the beach. Well, maybe not quite like the beaches you're thinking of - but for city slickers the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club is a fun option to imagine you've headed oceanside for an evening of bonfires and swapping stories. However at this "beach" you'll enjoy a sweeping view, a little sand beneath your toes, a rousing round of ping-pong and frosty pitchers of craft beer.

The unofficial start to summer is finally here - and if you're anything like me, this is one of your favorite times of year.

While I don't love being hot I do love the idealistic dreaming of warm summer nights, long sunny days and indulging in some of my favorite foods - which you can only get in the summer.

So for those of you lucky enough to have a 4-day weekend (I'm happy to have 3!) it's time to start planning those "start of summer" outfits for all of your Memorial Day festivities.

As you know, I've teamed up with Westfield for a few months (love me a good mall) and today I've styled up four looks you can get during a single trip to any Westfield center. With the exception of a few splurges, all of the pieces above are extremely affordable. More money for summer fun!

So tell me, what do you have planned for the long holiday weekend? We're staying local - as NYC is amazing when everyone flees for the shores. No waits at our favorite restaurants (we're thinking Red Farm this weekend), whole streets with few people on them and Governors Island opens - I'm itching for a riverside bike ride!

Homemade: Sweet Lemon Tart

Lemons could quite possibly be one of my favorite things. I love the scent, the color, the possibilities. And when the weather warms up visions of lemonade, lemon ice, lemon tart and lemon pepper chicken dance in my head. So with all of this talk about healthy eating, I figured why not share with you a recipe that might lead you astray - at least for a bite or two!

Sweet Lemon Tart

Almond Crust
1 cup almond meal/flour
1 1/2 cups white flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/3 stick unsalted butter, cold and cut in pieces
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 1/2 tsp lemon zest
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
2 tbsp water

In a large bowl, mix almond meal/flour, white flour and sugar together. Add in butter pieces and use your hands to combine - mixture should be crumbly at this point. Add in almond extract, salt, lemon zest and egg. If the dough feels dry, slowly add in water until dough forms a solid ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Take the dough out of the fridge and roll out into a 1/4" crust. Place in a greased tart or pie tin and bake at 375 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Remove and cool completely.

Lemon Curd
5 large egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons lemon zest
3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold + cut into small pieces
pinch of salt

Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until fluffy in a heat-safe bowl. Put bowl over a simmering pot of water to create a double-boiler/warm water bath. Add in the lemon juice, zest, butter and salt - mix all ingredients together. Keep the heat on a medium-low simmer for approximately 45-60 minutes or until mixture is thick. If you have a candy thermometer, temperature should be around 160 degrees F (I don't and I've never had a problem eyeballing thickness.) Occasionally whisk and scrap the sides of the bowl to combine all ingredients. Once curd has reached desired consistency remove from heat and cool in an ice bath.

Pour curd into the cooled crust and refrigerate until the curd has fully set - about 1 hour. Add a dollop of fresh whipped cream or serve as is.

So it's official - my husband is a Columbia University masters graduate! Which also explains why things were a little quiet around these parts last week - we had parents bookmarking the weekends and swapping mid-week. My overly ambitious plans to schedule in a few blog posts were trumped by precious family time and trying to juggle working from my iphone.

This weekend was nothing but delightful with LOTS of dreamy sunshine and warm breezes - my favorite. There is nothing like these first beautiful weekends full of looming summer temps to stretch your legs and indulge in long strolls along the waterfront, taking in some sweeping Manhattan views.

So with summer on the brain and Memorial Day creeping up on us, what are you planning for this season?

Warm weather, neon pink and a husband who finally has a free weekend all add up to a very happy me. This past Sunday we held an impromptu BBQ with my in-laws (who are in town from Indiana) and a few of our favorite people. Naturally, impromptu anything means I go in to super speed mode - as the perfectionist in me can't settle for anything less. (Did you read yesterday's post, well you could add this in there - although, I'm not afraid to tell anyone that - it just is what it is!)

So I busted out the perfect ten for a stroll to the market and to pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers - that meshed beautifully with my outfit. Because isn't that why we buy flowers in the first place? To stroll along with a tote of colorful blooms and a loaf of french bread? It definitely makes me feel like the ultimate girly girl, and sometimes, I'm okay with that!

Things I'm Afraid To Tell You

When Jess from Makeunder My Life posted a few things she was afraid to tell the world, well, part of that world followed suit. Ez, from Creature Comforts hosted a day of words that had since gone unspoken.

So when Meg from Mimi + Meg asked if there was anyone out there that was interested in continuing the movement, I quickly responded yes. But then I when I sat down to share, all I wanted to do was clam up.

The online world is a futile place and for those of you who read court + hudson more often than not know that I don't share all that much. But I do think it's important to shed attention on the fact that a blogger's life as portrayed through their posts, well, it's not an accurate depiction of life. Who wants to read about the negative? However, this makes the digital space increasingly polarizing, so every once and a while I think we can all appreciate honesty - no matter how vulnerable it makes you feel.

So, six things you didn't know about me...

Call me Ms. Self-Conscious - which is obviously incredibly ironic as I take pictures of myself and post them online. I have to work extremely hard at looking people in the eye when I talk to them. I do care about what people think about me, and I wish that I didn't. Which leads me to my next point...

I am extremely aware - of everything. I am self-aware AND self-conscious, which is a funny thing to be. Most days I don't take myself all too seriously but everyone has their moments. And I wish that more people were aware of themselves (or that I was lesser so?)

I have become increasingly sensitive over the years - I cry on a daily basis. Usually over nothing, but my emotions have become difficult to control. Which I'm sure even my closest friends find surprising because I don't like to be vulnerable.

I start a ton of projects and get easily distracted. This is part of the reason why you don't see weekly DIYs on the blog. I have 4 in process as I type this. You won't see one of them ready for this week.

My love affair with NYC has become neither love or an affair - and I don't know how to tell her.

I constantly feel like I don't know what I'm doing - and everyone else around me seems to have it all figured out. Which I know is not true, but I'd like to know a) why we can't be more vocal and understanding about the unknown, and b) will I ever figure it out?

Now, the point of this exercise isn't to conjure up kind (or cruel) comments, but rather to bring awareness to the fact that EVERYONE struggles with something. And as a community, we need to recognize moments of judgement as moments to work on making something or someone better.

five on foot: what to do on the upper west side

This week has been exhausting. Each day felt like two and they all seemed to blur together. So you can say I am quite happy to be taking a trip to the Upper West Side with today's Five on Foot - because that means it's FRIDAY! Now, keep in mind, these are five of my favorite spots - they aren't the only spots in the area. I could often go on for five more, but in an effort to keep it a quick read, five favs are what you get.

ONE. Calle Ocho

There is one reason that Calle Ocho is a perfect brunch destination and that is their weekend brunch. To be more specific, it's their all you can drink sangria bar that is THE draw. Now, it's only through your meal so don't think you can sit there and sip their 20 oz glasses of goodness all day - but with 8 sangria selections, you'll be plenty satisfied by the time the check rolls around.

TWO. Hayden Planetarium in the Rose Center for Earth + Space

Living in NYC you don't often get to look up at a huge sky full of stars. But the Hayden Planetarium is always there when you want to sit back and imagine yourself laying on the beach at night, looking up, and catching a shooting star. The Journey to The Stars is quite the space show - I promise you, you'll either transport yourself to the beach or feel like you're on a ride at Disney World, all in the heart of NYC.

THREE. 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe

If you walk all the way down 79th Street towards the Hudson River you'll reach a bridge where, if you didn't know better, you would think you need to turn around. Tucked under the bridge, is the 79th Street Boat Basin. Follow the signs along the path to a set of stairs and you'll emerge into an open air pavillion serving up icy daiquiris, delicious veggie burgers and a great view of the activity along the Hudson.

FOUR. Symphony Space

Part concert hall, part cultural event hub, Symphony Space offers an extensive calendar of inexpensive, and often free events ranging from film to music to dance. From their comedy series, Uptown Showdown to the annual Bloomsday on Broadway you're bound to find a bit of unique NYC culture in this creative space.

FIVE. Celeste

502 Amsterdam Avenue

Celeste is a quaint Italian restaurant that is known for it's delicious pasta, good wine list, and cheese plate + history lesson. While the restaurant is usually bustling, if you can, try and snag the owner, Carmine, to teach you about the cheese pairings and history of each. Listening to his story is what makes the dining experience so much fun! And remember, it's cash only, so come prepared.

Five on Foot: What to Do in Chelsea

Today we head over to the west side in a spot I've grown to know very well over the years. After spending many of my college years residing in Chelsea, rarely doing any of the above, I find myself increasingly frequenting the above spots and creating some of my favorite NYC memories.

ONE. Tipsy Parson

Grab a spot in the window and cozy up to an uber-sticky, but equally yummy sticky bun. Tipsy Parson is a good bet for a picky bunch, with a little something for everyone. A Southern style with a Yankee flair, their menu ranges from the "Pig in a Poke" (Sausage, eggs, and grits) to Fried Chicken and Waffles. Bonus, they serve Stumptown Coffee - my coffee drinking friends say this is a very good thing!

TWO. The High Line

You really can't visit NYC without heading over to The High Line. Running from Gansevoort to 34th Street, this stretch of elevated park space is a favorite for those looking for a little exercise, a place for inspiration or a reprieve from the hustle and bustle down below. With great views lots of seating, cozy up in a spot and enjoy a little people watching. You'll be shocked at some of the funny things you see!

THREE. The Chelsea Market

Oh how I adore this place. I could wander around its halls all day. And since I'm a fan girl of the Food Network, I might stalk the elevators in hopes Bobby Flay wants to chat about mexican food. But back to the market. A true foodie heaven, you can find anything from delicious Italian groceries to unique spices to handwoven baskets. And I'm SUPER excited because the previous Brooklyn-only independent designer market, Artists and Fleas have set up a pop-up shop right in the market. Lots of great jewelry, vintage finds and paper products.

FOUR. Chelsea Piers

Manhattan's waterfront sports and entertainment complex, Chelsea Piers is a 30-acre stomping ground for anyone looking for a little fun and fitness. They have bowling, ice skating, spa, a gym and so on, but one of my summer favorites is the driving range. While I'm no golfer I do enjoy going with Jon and watching him hit a round or two. Sometimes you'll find me sneaking in to take a swing. Cool off after a session in the Chelsea Brewery with a locally brewed Sunset Red Ale. Yum!

FIVE. The Frying Pan

Want to meet a group of friends for a few drinks and some easy grub to enjoy a perfect Saturday afternoon under the sun? The Frying Pan is the perfect spot that keeps things casual and allows for great views of the Hudson (and Hoboken of course!) This no-frills ship allows you access to some of its nooks and crannies and a walk-up bar + grill with a menu that includes icy cold pitchers of beer and a delicious clam bake. On gorgeous days, it's a hot commodity so get there early to snag a prime spot.

I had a meeting last night for an exciting project I'm taking on and left the cafe so very grateful. Lately I've been feeling rather discouraged - perhaps it's because I've witnessed so few genuine acts of kindness and one too many huffy shoulder bumps when walking home from work - but I find myself sad at the state of "brotherly love."

Last night's meeting reminded me that there are people out there who truly want to support, uplift and reward those they call their friends - free of ulterior motive. Just a little food for thought to ponder for Thursday.

DIY: Marc by Marc Jacobs Claude Resin and Glass Collar Necklace

My taste is expensive, my budget is not. Which is why I often find myself looking at things through DIY "glasses." I first came across this lovely Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace on Shopbop and then shortly thereafter spotted it on Busy Phillipps on Cougar Town - a show I do not watch but stopped mid-flip when I saw her.

Never getting up close and personal to this piece, I didn't know how it was constructed but assumed I could figure out how to do it myself. So here's my attempt.

First, lay out your supplies. Count out your beads and make sure you have enough of each element. Certainly, what beads you choose to use may vary from mine but remember that's okay, use this as a guide not as permanent rules. I scored all of my pieces at MJ Trim, however I've found similar pieces at craft stores like A.C. Moore and Joann Fabrics.

I've included some general numbers as to how to make this exact necklace, however feel free to add to make the necklace longer.

You will also need a pair of pliers which I sadly left out of the above.

Step 1: Attach one end of the clasp to approximately 2' of your tiger tail, secure with a crimp bead. Begin stringing the square beads on in the pattern shown in the original, or feel free to create one you like.

Step 2: String on the center stone that will serve as the anchor and middle of your necklace and finish up the other side. Secure the second half of the clasp with another crimp bead. Your necklace should look similar to the above.

Step 3: Make your pendant. I choose to glue the beads together using the adhesive glue, however you could also glue on a bit of felt backing for a more finished look. Set aside and let fully dry.

Step 4: Apply a thin layer of glue to approximately 5 inches of ribbon and fold over for added thickness.

Note: You could also use clay here as well - instead of ribbon. Mold and shape into the crescent moon and bake. Make sure to poke holes at either end of the moon to allow for the jump rings to affix to the necklace base.

Step 5: Wait for the glue to dry and carefully cut your ribbon in the shape of a crescent moon, as illustrated above. Cut the whole width of your 5 inch ribbon, as you can always trim down. Measure against your necklace to see where each side can attach to the base necklace. Repeat on the opposite side to ensure they are equal. Once you have both crescents cut and measured against your necklace in matching fashion, affix a piece of wire, looped and knotted, or a jump ring to either end of the crescent and pull each ring through an end cap. Secure ribbon inside end cap with a spot of glue to hold in permanent place.

Step 6: Attach your studs + flatback gems to each crescent moon as illustrated above. Feel free to get as literal or creative as you might want!

Step 7: Attach the crescents to your necklace with a bit of wire or jump rings, depending upon how your beads are constructed. Then attach your pendant to the necklace anchor.

Step 8: Wear. Love. Make for friends.

homemade: easy + healthy cottage cheese pancakes

When it comes to a quick and easy lunch that I know will get me through a tough workday or keep me full until a late weekend dinner, cottage cheese pancakes are one of my favorites. I love taking them as a work week lunch - as they can easily be reheated in the microwave.

This is a modification of a recipe that my mom would make all of the time when I was younger and she recently whipped up a batch when I was home. Which got me thinking that it would be easy to achieve the same flavor but dial down the carbs, up the protein and curb the cravings.

I like to pair my pancakes with a bit of organic applesauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon. But these would be equally delish with a dollop of fat free greek yogurt or sour cream or even a quick strawberry sauce. I'm getting hungry just thinking about these again.

Ingredients
1 cup cottage cheese
1/3 cup protein powder (needs to be plain) or 1/3 cup oats
3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Directions
Mix all of the ingredients together. If the batter seems too thick, add a splash of almond milk or water. Too thin, add a bit more powder or oats. Spray a non-stick frying pan with a bit of oil (I love my Misto) and heat at a medium heat. Ladle a thin amount of the batter into the skillet - best to keep them on the smaller size. You'll know when they're ready to flip when the edges turn up and you see air bubbles popping through the top. Flip, brown, and enjoy!

There is nothing I love more than a good weekend. Especially one combined with lots of free time and long conversations with great people over a yummy brunch. And that is precisely what I strive for each and every weekend. But when it comes to getting dressed, it's not something I want to take a lot of time thinking about. So I pull on pieces that may be simple, but make me feel good.

This coat, vintage. Complete with Chanel buttons I found at Housing Works a few years ago for $20. The jeans, my favorite - when I actually decide to pull on a pair. And the bracelet, a great cause.

What was once a style lovers haven has become packed to the brim with mass market retailers and out of towners looking to shop! Don't get me wrong, Soho is a great 'hood but I'm going to take you off Broadway today to explore some of Soho's other fine streets. You coming?

While Balthazar and Jane are tried and true brunch spots in Soho, Aurora is a fantastic alternative to hour long wait times and offers a great $15 brunch deal for an entree and cocktail. With a rustic chic vibe, this quaint cafe uses fresh, seasonal ingredients in all of their dishes. If you're feeling indulgent try the brioche french toast. YUM!

TWO. In God We Trust + Opening Ceremony

You really can't escape Soho without getting a bit of a retail itch. With stores abounding narrowing them down to just one day can be overwhelming. But two I definitely wouldn't pass up - In God We Trust and Opening Ceremony. Both exude "cool" and offer an amazing selection of, dare I say it, curated wares. If you're saving up to splurge on an amazing investment piece, you're going to find it hard to walk out of either empty handed.

THREE. Harney and Sons

Truth be told, I don't drink tea. I know! But I wish I liked it so I could truly experience all that Harney and Sons has to offer. However I have been several times with in-town guests and all have raved over the unique blended teas and the gorgeous displays that evoke the feeling of a fine art gallery or museum as opposed to a tea shop. Naturally I'm a sucker for pretty packaging so I've bought a tin or two for myself. My floral arrangements have never looked prettier!

I used to work by this small sandwich shop and it is truly an authentic NY experience. Small and unassuming, the sandwiches churned out of this shop are nothing short of delicious. It's a good thing I've switched offices otherwise I'd be concerned for my waistline. One sandwich on their soft and fluffy foccacia could easily feed two. (My fav = the Alyssa) Grab a limonata and head to the park down the street to enjoy your sandwich outdoors.

Word to the wise: this shop has been compared to Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" so I recommend knowing what you want to order before you reach the counter - as they don't take custom orders or substitutions. It's also teeny tiny and cash only, but if you can obey the shop rules, you'll pass with flying colors as the owners are two tough cookies!

FIVE. Francoise Schein's Subway Map Floating on a Sidewalk

110 Greene Street

87 feet long, this work of art isn't on the walls of some sprawling Chelsea art gallery, but rather literally on the street of Soho. If a day of indulging in food and shopping has left you feeling the need for a bit of culture, head over to 100 Greene Street and you'll find yourself among art. But don't think this map will help you get out of Manhattan, NYC's other boroughs are sadly not represented - as they didn't fit on the sidewalk!

DIY: Leather Pockets

If you're anything like me, the amount of stripes in your wardrobe borders on excessive - in the best possible fashion of course! But having striped shirt upon striped shirt dress tends to get a little uneventful.

Naturally, browsing Pinterest is sure to feed much needed inspiration and after coming across the striped dress with light leather pockets from COS, and then plenty of other leather pocket inspirations, I knew this would be an easy 10-minute DIY to snazz up a simple striped shirt dress already in my closet.

You can certainly hit the sewing machine with this one if you own a sewing machine and are adept in creating straight lines. However, you can honestly achieve the same look with a sturdy fabric glue like Unique Stitch - in under 10 minutes!

So grab your leather and glue and get to it!

NEXT...

Line up your pockets on the dress and decide the best placement. Now is also where you will decide if you need to shorten them a bit or make the width a little smaller. Once you've got the placement and size decided, pick up your first pocket.

Fold in the two sides of the pocket and glue along the edge, leaving the top two inches un-glued. Fold up the bottom and secure fold with fabric glue. Place back in its spot and repeat with the second pocket.

Attach the pockets, fold flap side towards the fabric to the dress with more fabric glue. Start by gluing the bottom edge of the pocket down first, and then up one side and then the other. The top two inches that you left unglued will give the pockets a bit more shape and dimension once affixed to the dress. And honestly, that's it.

When it comes to decorating I tend to find that if I don't jump on projects they tend to never get completed. Case in point, our bedroom and guest room. After our housewarming party back in January I literally have not lifted a finger when it comes to making our house more of a home.

But sometimes all it takes is one little push to get things moving again. After coming across the above image I immediately lept into researching similar pieces as that bedroom is the exact compromise my husband and I have talked about. That large map, I've had it in my B&N digital cart for two years now. That mirror? I just picked one up at TJ Maxx this weekend. Those pillows? I already own them.

So many of the components have already starting coming together without me even knowing it. I'm so excited to begin putting things together because as of right now all of our blank space has just been used for a few late night dance parties!

Union Square is one of my very favorite places for people watching. There are so many different sorts of people doing so many different types of things, it's a true sensory experience. While most of what Union Square is known for is the actual park or square in which it takes its name after, there is plenty to see and do to keep you occupied for the better part of a day. Let's see what five spots I recommend next time you're in the 'hood.

This market is now over 35 years old and during peak season 140 vendors deep. You can find most any sort of produce + fruits, CHEESES, breads, a wide selection of flowers, homemade products and in the fall, some of the most delicious cider I've ever tasted. Seriously, so good! Meander through the vendor booths and don't be afraid to ask to try a sample - supporting local whenever you can is such an important part of reducing our collective carbon footprint.

TWO. Soft Serve Fruit Co.

So we all know how much I love frozen yogurt, but it doesn't necessarily have a regular place in a healthy diet. Enter, Soft Serve Fruit Co. It's fruit, that looks like frozen yogurt and tastes like heaven. Fruit, water and a pinch of sugar is all that goes in to their flavors and I promise you, one cup will have you wanting more.

THREE. Nordstrom Rack

I know it may be hard to imagine that in the fashion capital of the world, there is not one Nordstrom department store. But with the one year old Nordstrom Rack now in Union Square, I like to pop in when I'm looking for a good deal. It definitely takes some digging sometimes, but with a bit of patience, there are plenty of hidden gems.

It is no secret I have been having serious wanderlust lately. But until a few more ducks get in their row, I will just need to find other ways in which to satisfy the urge. One way, these super simple, but super distinct hook bracelets from the Australian-based brand Wanderlust + Co.

I love the idea of stacking a few in contrasting shades, or even a combo of one color for a subtle, but classy impact. At just over $12 a pop, you can afford to treat yourself to a little wanderlust, you know, when you can't quite scratch your travel itch!

This weekend the temperatures rose into the high 70's and that meant it was time to break out a few pieces I have yet to wear. I can't take any credit for this outfit as I actually saw it on Sarah from A House In the Hills with it on and loved it so much I recreated with all of the very same pieces. How original huh? But that is why I love style blogs, they are really just a wealth of outfit ideas at your fingertips. Naturally it's always best to put your own unique spin on it, but sometimes when it works, it just works.

For this week's Five on Foot we're heading to Nolita, whose name stands for North Of Little ITAly. Nolita takes cues from its indie neighbor, the LES and chic trendy neighbor, Soho - which means it is chock full of unique boutiques, a melting pot of culture and a scene for delicious grub. So let's take a peek at a few spots worthy of checking out.

ONE. Cafe Gitane

Cozy up to one of Cafe Gitane's sidewalk tables and revel in a bit of "cool people" watching. Frequented by an ultra hip(ster) crowd, Cafe Gitane's Moroccan inspired menu includes a series of inventive dishes full of some of my favorite ingredients, which include baked cheeses and warm breads. But the real standout is, hands down, the avocado toast. Just do yourself a favor and order a double!

TWO. The New Museum

New York City's only dedicated contemporary art museum, The New Museum is widely known for its groundbreaking and risking taking exhibitions. Their exhibitions change often, most on a monthly basis and are nothing short of truly compelling. Only Hearts is one of those stores that draws you in with a beautifully merchandised selection of dresses, tops, bottoms and of course lingerie. Socarrat basically embodies a paella cooked to perfection, and this little tapas bar - on offshoot of its Chelsea location is truly a scrumptious spot for a cozy dinner. My favorite appetizer: the patatas bravas. My favorite paella: a toss up - the veggie or the lobster. Naturally.

Ending a night in Nolita at Sweet & Vicious usually means you're doing things the right way. Usually best on a weeknight if you're looking for a low-key twinkle-light lit patio to enjoy your jar-garita. But if a lively crowd and some good jams is what you prefer, the weekend at S&V is sure to hit the spot. Also a great venue for a birthday/going away/I just want to throw a party-party.

Even though I am actively on a mission to meet bikini season head on and fully intend to reach that goal, it can be said that I have my weak moments. I blame Pinterest. After oogling over this recipe from Kevin and Amanda I may have found myself in front of my fridge trying to figure out if I could make this little pile of heaven. Sometimes, you just have to indulge a little. While I didn't get as far as actually making it for myself, I thought it might be fun to virtually make this yummy treat!

Who says leather doesn't have a place on Sundays? Well, it may not have been the "Easter dress" most would typically picture for such on occasion, it certainly fit in amongst the downtown crowd. I found myself strolling around the West Village soaking up oodles of sunshine and reveling in the quaint vibe of my favorite neighborhood.

And although tourists most certainly were abound on this particular afternoon there is something to be said about how, from neighborhood to neighborhood, your mood instantly transforms. Funny how that goes. And with a little less wind, this Medusa style hairdo I'm sporting would probably have looked a wee bit more put together.
