Bernhard is a composed, thoughtful conversationalist – and he is modest about his talent level. When you see his lighting design, which reflects a higher state of mind and creativity, and pushes the boundaries of technology and engineering, it might astound you that he could possibly be humble. Humility is often a quality of the truly gifted, which tends to allow for more great things to manifest. Bernhard was in Dallas from Germany to help prepare for the<a href="http://www.scottcooner.com" target="_blank"> Scott & Cooner</a> opening last month, which was an unbelievable event by the way. When I first met him he was installing a stunning LED installation in the showroom. He has designed lighting with Ingo Maurer for 29 years, both for the wildly inspired product line and for private and public installations. In a large pot of boiling water, cook the lobsters until the turn bright red, about 13 minutes. Drain and let cool. Twist off the tails and claws. Crack the claws and remove the meat. Cut into large pieces. Using kitchen scissors, slit the tail shells lengthwise up the center and remove the tail meat. Remove the black intestinal tract and discard. Cut the tail meat into 1-inch medallions. Cover and refrigerate the lobster meat.</div> <div style="text-align: center;">2. In a large bowl, combine the vinegar with the soy sauce, ginger and sugar. Whisk in the oil until emulsified, then season with salt and pepper. Add the watercress and lobster and toss gently, then add the avocado and toss just until dressed. The contemporary trends are high-tech, vibrant color, classic patterns revitalized, updated classic furniture styles, pop art, british infused humor, and a light-hearted vibe. I love the feeling of the “now” of design. The only thing better than going to New York is going for design inspiration. Earlier this week the Big Apple was host to<a href="http://icff.com" target="_blank"> ICFF</a> (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) and <a href="http://www.blogfest2013.com" target="_blank">Blogfest</a> 2013, which included a tour of <a href="http://www.kipsbaydecoratorshowhouse.org" target="_blank">Kips Bay Show House</a>. Inspiration trifecta! It was so fun to see designer/design blogger friends and meet new ones. <a href="http://www.kravet.com" target="_blank">Kravet</a> did a spectacular job with Blogfest – everybody who attended had a wonderful time and learned a lot. I decided to share with you some of the faces of Blogfest and ICFF (the ones I happened to get solo shots of), obviously I couldn’t capture all faces, but these talented people will inspire you… so I am treating this like an informal blogroll. She assumes multiple roles of photographer, model, makeup artist, hairdresser and stylist. Whether portraying a career girl, a blonde bombshell, a fashion victim, a clown or a society lady of a certain age- she has created a provocative body of work that <span id="more-7968"></span>resonates deeply in our visual culture.</div> <div></div> <div>I went to her exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art, and it was fascinating. It is so widely creative that it completely stretched the boundaries of my own creativity. I like that. Honestly, I don’t know how she does it. For starters, it would be fun to watch her observe others, because clearly, she doesn’t miss a thing. The level of detail is unbelievable. Some of these photos are horrifically hilarious. She can express her views through a single photograph… something I don’t think I have ever seen. She can look like a man, look like an older woman, look like a dead person even. How does she think of these things?!</div> <div></div> <div>She views fashion as a daily form of masquerade that communicates culture, gender, and class. Fashion has been a constant source of inspiration for Sherman and a leading ingredient in the creation of her work.</div> <div><a href="http://www.courtneyprice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/CindySherman2008Society.jpg"></a></div> <div>Above are a few selections from the 2008 society portraits series, a hat tip to financial collapse of 2008, the end of an era of opulence. These images are huge and magnificent, and the viewer can’t help but walk right up to them for a closer inspection. They are perfectly visible from across a large room, but a closer look reveals not so pretty details. They seem at once tragic and vulgar. The figures are not based on specific women (yeah right…) but the artist has made them look entirely familiar in their struggle with the impossible standards of beauty that prevail in a youth and status obsessed culture.</div> <div>The psychological weight of these pictures comes through the unrelenting honesty of their description of aging, the tell-tale signs of cosmetic alteration, and the small details that belie the characters attempts to project a polished and elegant appearance.</div> <div></div> <div>Cindy Sherman has set the record for the highest priced photograph sale, with a winning bid coming in at a cool 3.9 million for one photo at a <a href="http://www.popphoto.com/news/2011/05/cindy-sherman-print-sells-39-million-auction-highest-ever-photograp" target="_blank">Christies Auction</a>.
