Christopher Check is president of Catholic Answers, the largest lay-run apologetics and evangelization organization in the English-speaking world. He holds a degree in English Literature from Rice University.

Christopher served for two decades as vice president of The Rockford Institute and before that for seven years as a field artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps in deployments and expeditions in the Far East and the Persian Gulf. His writings have appeared in Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture, Catholic Answers Magazine, Touchstone, The Wanderer, Angelus, New Oxford Review, Culture Wars, and the Chicago Tribune.

They discuss the study necessary for Catholic Answers speakers and how to balance family life with ministry.
This is the second of a three part series of interviews conducted with the Catholic Answers crew during the recent ‘Fighting for the Faith’ Australian Tour, brought to you by Parousia.

Karlo Broussard, a native of Southern Louisiana, left a promising musical career to devote himself full-time to the work of Catholic apologetics. As a staff apologist and speaker for Catholic Answers, he travels the country giving talks on apologetics, the Bible, theology, and philosophy.
Karlo holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in theology, and is working on his masters in philosophy. He also worked for several years with nationally known author and philosopher Fr. Robert J. Spitzer at the Magis Center.
Karlo is one of the most dynamic and gifted Catholic speakers on the circuit today, communicating with precision of thought, a genuine love for God, and an enthusiasm that inspires.

Semiti Qalowasa: Standing Strong with Fiji’s Vulnerable

Caritas Australia has been running the Project Compassion for over 50 years. This Lenten giving program has been a source of support for many people throughout the world. One such group are the people of the “informal settlements” in Fiji: areas of temporary housing which leave their residents vulnerable and seemingly stuck in a “culture of silence”.

Semiti Qalowasa is the National Director of the People’s Community Network (PCN), which works with the residents of Fiji’s informal settlements to improve their living situation. The PCN assists through education, government lobbying, and building of community bonds.

We spoke to Semiti to find out about his story, the challenges facing Fiji’s informal settlements, and his favourite experiences in working with the People’s Community Network.
