Mark your calendar and free up some time as the Beta release date for Visual Studio 11 and .NET 4.5 has been announced – February 29th, 2012. This is great news. Today, the Visual Studio Team has given a preview of the new default UI! After evaluating the Technical Preview, the new UI is a significant, and in my ‘first glance’ opinion, a positive change. The Visual Studio Team has outlined some target areas that they worked to address in this new release. As defined in the Visual Studio Blog Post – “Introducing the New Developer Experience”, the target areas in short are: Coping with tool overload, Comprehending and navigating complex codebases and related artifacts (bugs, work items, tests etc.), and Dealing with large numbers [...]

I am an advocate for embracing sound information management and information architecture principles. On the TechNet Wiki, the only tool we currently have for categorization of articles is to use tagging. With this said, a lot can be achieved by the use of simple tagging. I frequent the SharePoint and PowerShell related articles on the Wiki and I realized that there was no way to consistently filter articles by language. The vast majority of articles in the Wiki are written in English. There many who are now writing articles in other languages and I wanted to be able to view and filter SharePoint articles written in English. I wasn’t able to do this for English articles, however as the authors of articles in other languages [...]

The SharePoint 15 cycle and Office 15 cycle closed technical preview was announced on January 30th, 2012 on the Office Exec blog. An interesting snippit from the Office Exec Blog: “At this early point in our development cycle, I’m not able to share too much about Office 15, but I can tell you Office 15 is the most ambitious undertaking yet for the Office Division. With Office 15, for the first time ever, we will simultaneously update our cloud services, servers, and mobile and PC clients for Office, Office 365, Exchange, SharePoint, Lync, Project, and Visio. Quite simply, Office 15 will help people work, collaborate, and communicate smarter and faster than ever before.” Read the full post I want more details already!
