P22 Type Foundry Underground Full Set

P22 has undertaken a major expansion to the London Underground font system. The historical original design by Edward Johnston which is licensed exclusively to P22 from the London Transport Museum is now expanded into 4 additional weights plus a lower case for the bold. The original P22 Johnston Underground were issued in Regular as a full Western European Character set
and Bold All Caps as designed by Johnston in 1916.

New Site’s Up - Sorta

I’ve taken the MobileMe approach and pushed the new site design up before it was 100% tested and proofed. I’ll be doing more in depth browser testing as time allows. Lots more to do, I was just eager to get it up and out.

Web Geekup

I’d like to pull the discussion of the possibility of Des Moines area web geekup together here. Interested in ideas for places, times, etc. and the kind of stuff people would be interested in.

The basic idea is this:
• Meeting of primarily web folks working in web development, design and management
• Sharing ideas on methods, ideas, technologies, etc.
• Venue should encourage interaction and sharing (connection if we think it’s needed, power, drinks, light, etc.)
• Open to anyone, think of it as a learning exchange
• No formal agenda but if we want to have ‘topics’ that would be great so people can pick and choose when they want to come

Anything else people want to add is wide open. I have no ownership outside of wanting to make this a reality. I realized at the last tweetup there’s a strong community of people who know their craft and just want to geek out/hack with them. Help my dream come true won’t you?

I was heartened to read the Bill Gates usability rant gleaned from the anti-trust documents. This email shows me that Windows usability issues were more institutionalized and were the result of an obese org, not because Gates didn’t ‘get it’.

For some time now I have struggled to find the right bag for my laptop and mobile gear. What started out as a problem for snooty businessmen in airpots and techies and has grown to be the bane of the common coffee-shop exile. We all need a bag for our stuff (hat tip to the late George Carlin), but find that bag can be a daunting task. Hopefully that’s where the Satchelist can help. We launched the Satchelist last week and are slowly building up a listing of reviews, insight and conversation about laptop bags, mobile gear and more. If you have ideas, reviews or thoughts let us know, we’d love to hear them. In the meantime check out the site, tell where were wrong or share a story or two.
