First, you must decide what type of party you want to have and how many people to invite. What you need to buy will be determined by what type of party you are hosting. You will need to have the basics of wine, chocolate, and some type of décor. If you decide that you will have a potluck type party where the guests bring the chocolates, you can focus your attention toward the wines. You will also need to make sure that you have enough wine glasses, plates and silverware to go around.

While you won’t need to buy brand new silver or china, it is not a good idea to skimp on silverware or plates. More likely than not, what you already have in your own house is adequate for your party.

Candles are a simple way to decorate for you party. If you use them, make sure that you buy unscented candles as you do not want the aroma from the candles to interfere with the tasting. A simple silk floral centerpiece will brighten up the table. Table runners and table cloths can either be simple or fancy, depending on the type of party you are having.

It is also a good idea to have alternate food and drink choices available. Some guests may have food allergies, while other guests may not drink alcohol and cannot or do not wish to partake in the main offerings. A good host or hostess will make sure all their guests are not made to feel left out. You also want to provide water or some other type of palate cleanser on hand for in between tastings.

Pairing wine and chocolates can be tricky and involve some experimentation. Pairing the wrong wine with the wrong chocolate can leave a sour taste in the mouth. As a general rule of thumb, the sweetness of the wine should be equal to or greater than the sweetness of the chocolate. Lighter wines go best with lighter, elegant chocolates while fuller bodied wines go best with darker chocolates. For instance, wines that generally go best with dark chocolate are fuller reds such as Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines that generally go best with milk chocolate include Riesling, dessert wines, and merlot.

During your tasting, it is recommended to begin with the lighter chocolates and lighter wines and work towards the darker chocolates and fuller wines.

There is one little thing that I do that I think is for me rather than the dogs – I love to dress them up in dog clothes. They look soooo cute! Actually, my dogs do like to be dressed up – probably because I make such a fuss over them when they are fully clothed.

There are dog clothes made specifically for most small breeds, yorkies, miniature poodles, mini dachshunds and so on. Except for the mini doxies, you really can put any of the clothes on all the small dogs, as long as they fit. (The doxies are so long that to get a good fit you want clothes made for them). To get a good fit, measure your ‘baby’ from the base of his neck (where the collar is) to the base of the tail, then measure around the dog at the deepest part of the rib cage. Write these measurements down so you don’t have to repeatedly measure them.

I have found that the best place to buy dog clothes is on the Internet. They have a much wider selection, the prices are usually cheaper than the pet stores and they are very easy to work with. Returns or exchanges are no problem with online suppliers.

Woot! I am so proud of myself, because I was able to complete all Saturdays of January for COPS! Some of you know how tight my schedule could be, but I’ve been trying to experiment with something that would make me finish with all my article assignments early. I’m doing this so I wouldn’t have to cram after work hours and to have enough time to devote to blogging.

Anyway, I am sharing a photo of the pair of shoes I bought last Sunday when my family and I went to Greenhills.

I got this pair for cheap – buy one, take one for Php550 or around $12.83. I bought it not just because it’s purple but also because it’s super comfy to the feet. I sure could use comfy shoes especially when strolling with the family. I haven’t worn it yet, and I am already excited to use it. But I think I need a new purple shirt to go with it. LOL

Even though the charcoal grills are the best for Barbeques the techniques of a good BBQ are not easily mastered. Don’t panic if you are a beginner! There will always be several ‘experts’ at any BBQ, and every one of them will be willing to offer advice! Whether you are new to grilling or not, here are a few tips that will make your Barbeque events fun and safe.

* Make sure the grill is placed on a level surface. You definitely do not want your grill to tip over when it is loaded with meat! (If possible locate your grill near a table)

* Have all the tools you will need in one place, close to the grill. Tongs, grill-cleaning brush, basting brush, spatula, lighter fluid (if you use it) and, the charcoal.

* Want to know how many briquettes to use? A good rule of thumb is to measure the amount of food that you will be grilling. Use around thirty briquettes for every pound of meat that you plan to cook.

* Light the charcoal. When the charcoal is gray (usually about 20 min), Using the long tongs, spread the charcoal out evenly on the bottom of the grill. Place the grill over the charcoal; use the grill-cleaning brush to clean it.

* Place your food on the grill. Do not place chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and expect them to be done at the same time. Cook the chicken for about 20 minutes prior to placing hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Place the hot dogs on the outer edges of the grill.

* When your food is about 5 minutes from being done, start basting the food with the BBQ sauce. Make sure you baste both sides of the food.

* Make sure your charcoal grill is cold prior to moving it. NEVER dump the charcoal ashes out onto the ground – there may still be live coals in the ash, they will start a fire.

I often get those. Cravings, I mean. I’d crave for food, which I know my mom won’t be able to prepare at home. That way, I’d have reason to drag thesm out of the house for some serious food tripping. It’s one of my pleasures in life. To eat, eat, and eat and satisfy my cravings.
