Social networking has buoyed the efficacy of interaction between business owners, managers and executives. This form of communication has worked especially well in businesses where contacts matter, such as real estate. Twitter and Facebook have come into their own as the premier networking sites on the Internet. They have a disadvantage in that they serve primarily as personal websites for friends and families. Professionals and businessmen seeking to network with one another have been left in the dust until now. A website called LinkedIn, which went public earlier this year on the stock market, is providing the perfect platform for professional networking.

Facebook and Twitter deliver specific information about a requested person or subject to interested parties. Groups on LinkedIn can help create new connections and relationships, to be sure, but their main benefit is information sharing. These groups provide users broad playing fields filled with new insights from a multitude of perspectives. They can provide new information not previously known or augment previous speculation with new reasoning. For instance, the Clinton Global Initiative (Doug Band & President Clinton) has a group that allows young kids to interact and share their ideas, opinions and events with each other. Likewise, you can target individuals at the CGI by searching people.

The Groups page on LinkedIn provides access to potentially hundreds of unique topics. Users can search until they find the group most suited to their profession and industry. LinkedIn provides an opportunity for professionals to discover new information pertinent to their role within an organization or company.

Users have the ability to discover which users are the most popular and influential. This data can be organized according to almost any timescale they wish, from weeks to months to years. Existing users can review their connections and take a look at new members and their job listings to look for new opportunities. Users can brand themselves within their groups and seek to establish positions of authority. LinkedIn allows users to make professional connections that can provide a chance to further their careers.

The groups themselves can be picky, which means getting accepted is a good sign in terms of social status. The elements of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have now been applied to the business community. LinkedIn promises to make networking much easier for professionals. This website is transferring the contact-intensive nature of industries like real estate to other industries. This may trigger a shift in the skills required for success, but fundamentally LinkedIn is for the betterment of everyone who uses it.

Is Facebook taking over social bookmarking sites?

When was the last time that you used a social bookmarking site like Digg, Stumble Upon or Reddit?

Recently, social bookmarking sites have been increasing noticeable drop in their traffic and user activity. Social bookmarking sites used to be very popular but every since Facebook entered the market, their popularity deteriorated. People seem to like sharing articles on Facebook more than they like doing it on Digg or Reddit.

Why is that the case?

It could simply be the idea of sharing the links with your friends and family and not total strangers. Of course, some people like to share their articles with strangers to get a variety of perspectives. But others prefer engaging in discussions and revealing any details only to people they know.

How does that affect webmasters?

Well, when you share articles with your friends on Facebook, they are only seen by your friends and probably their friends. When you share articles on social bookmarking sites like Digg, they are seen by millions. You get my point. But don't get upset, there are other ways to utilize Facebook to gain traffic like Facebook Pages.

Why I left Bluehost hosting

Besides managing SEO and Blogging Tips, I also manage three other sites that use Wordpress and are hosted independently. I got independent hosting about 2 years ago. An online friend of mine offered me his own hosting. Since it was my first hosting and the price was very low, I agreed. But due to poor support and uptime, I moved to another host. This time I wanted to have a trusted hosting that wouldn't disappoint me even if it meant that I had to pay couple of bucks extra. So, I picked Bluehost.

Bluehost wasn't very expensive. I paid approximately $65 for one year. This was a discounted price. The regular price is much higher than this. Anyways, I was really satisfied with Bluehost. I am not an expert with hostings but I still found Bluehost fairly easy to use. They have a lot of features and they make it really easy for you to take advantage of them. I would go into the details of all the features they have to offer but it's pretty much the same as any other hosting nowadays. Bottom line: it's much easier to use Bluehost and things are easy to figure out.

So why did I leave Bluehost? Well, I just completed my one year with them and was kindly asked by them to renew my account. So, I went to their page to do it and it turned out that the price had been raised to $107 per year. I was shocked and thought there had been some mistake because I paid almost half of that before. So, I contacted their support for an explanation. Apparently, the coupon that I had used to get the discounted price is only for one year and doesn't carry. This is what pissed me off because I hadn't seen that written anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I like Bluehost but why should I pay so much for hosting some simple blogs? Bluehost was charging me $6.95 per month while there are other trusted hosting services that only charge around $4-5 per month?

This is why I decided to move to another hosting. It's a pain to transfer all your files but I am willing to go through the trouble if it means that I save around $40 a year. Yup, my new hosting is iPage where I only paid $54 for a year of hosting and this is their regular price.

Google PageRank updates become more unpredictable

Google PageRank can be very important to some bloggers/webmasters. For many, it's a good source of some cash. I the past, Google PageRank updates used to occur approximately 4 times a year with 3 month gap. However, nowadays the updates seem to be happening at unpredictable times. Some updates take 6-7 months to happen while some happen right away.

I have been investing a lot of my time in getting backlinks for 3 websites that I own since last year and during this time, I hardly saw a major Google PageRank update. There were some minor ones but they only applied to some websites. I have worked hard on obtaining backlinks but my PageRank for those three sites still has not changed at all.

What do you guys think about Google PageRank and it's recent behavior regarding updates? Are you guys satisfied? Have you seen any major changes in your site's PageRank?

The whole day I have been noticing that a lot of Halloween related keywords are gaining popularity at Google Trends. As most of you already know, Halloween is tomorrow on October 31st and people seem to be searching for costumes online either to buy them or to get some ideas.

Google PageRank Update - October 2009

Google PageRank Update - Today I woke up to see that Google has updated PageRank (PR) for some of my websites and blogs. However, i ended up losing PR even though I worked so hard to get backlinks. My two new sites didn't get any PR yet.

Before, Google used to have a PageRank update approximately every three months but now it has been taking longer. After waiting so long for an update, I was disappointed to see the results. But it is possible that the update is still going on and that my pagerank can still change a little because sometimes pagerank tends to fluctuate during the update.

What about your websites? Did you notice any change in the PR? Did it increase or decrease? Are you happy with the update over all? Share it with other readers.

I am guessing that most of you have already visited Google's homepage today and saw it's new modified logo. Surprised to see the way it is spelled? "Why is Google spelled wrong? Why does Google have two "l"s? Today's logo has two "l"s and is spelled as "Googlle". Now everyone is asking why that is and the answer is that today's Google's 11th birthday and that's why they decided to play with their logo to make the two "l"s look like 11.

Google has come a very long way in the last eleven years. The search giant is the most popular site and search engine in the world. It started with a search engine but now it is so much more than just that. It offers so many services like Google News, Maps, GMail, Earth etc.

Now you might be wondering what in the world I am going to write about and why is that my post title. The reason is traffic. Twitter is a very popular social networking site which is now worth $1 billion. A lot of searches conducted at search engines are related to Twitter these days. So I was using a keyword tool that was telling me how many searches are conducted specific to keywords. I found several popular keywords such as "what is twitter", "what is twittering" etc. So why did I land at this keyword: "what is the definition of twitter patted". The answer is low competition. If you search it on Google, you will see that there are fewer search results compared to when you search the other keywords. Fewer search results mean low competition and that means that there are better chances of SEO and Blogging Tips appearing on one of the first few search result pages.

Try this trick with some popular but less competitive keywords and enjoy the results.

Google's new product: DoubleClick Ad Exchange

In a recent blog post, Google unveiled its latest product called DoubleClick Ad Exchange to compete in the market of display advertisement on the Internet. Google bought DoubleClick in March 2008 for more than $3 billion.

You may have noticed that nowadays, online ads are evolving from static to dynamic. You see video ads more often than before. These types of ads help advertisers sell their products and services.

Google has not been very successful in display ads market compared to Yahoo which leads the market by 12.5 percent market share. Google only owns 2 percent share.

According to Google, with this new system, they aim to improve display advertising in three ways:

Simplify - Google hopes to simplify the system of display advertising so that publishers can buy ads from publishers easily. Google recognizes that due to so many options, sometimes it can be really hard to buy ads from publishers.
Detailed Reports - What good is marketing if you cannot monitor it properly? Through DoubleClick Ad Exchange, Google will make monitoring campaigns easier.
"Open up the ecosystem" - Google wants to make display advertising accessible to everyone. A lot of businesses have still not tried their hands on display advertising.

With its new service, Google is ready to challenge Yahoo in the display advertisement market.

Writing original content to gain backlinks

For a lot of bloggers and webmasters, having a website/blog with a good PageRank is very important since it determines how much money they will be making online. Thus, having a good pagerank is extremely vital. Now you see bloggers trying desperately hard to get a good pagerank for their sites. They use almost every way there is to gain backlinks regardless of their usefulness. For example, submitting to directories is not a very powerful way but still bloggers still use it because it does have some importance and if your website gets accepted into a directory, it is a free backlink for you. Important thing to remember is that inner pages of most of the directories hardly have any pagerank whatsoever. Thus, do not rely on directories only.

Bloggers also like to comment on other dofollow blogs to gain backlinks. First of all, how does commenting get you backlinks? Are you supposed to leave your website's URL in your comment? NO! Never leave your URL in the body of the comment. That's called SPAMMING and the blog owner will quickly delete your comment as soon as he sees the URL. Most, if not all, blogs allow you to leave your website's URL in the URL section. Only enter your URL there and no where else. Make sure your comments are relevant to the blog post and that you are not just posting random stuff. It's always better to leave detailed comments that raise important issues about the blog post. This way the author knows that you actually read the post and are interested in it. Blog commenting can also help you make friends with other bloggers and thus extend your network. You might like to read this post I wrote a while back about writing good comments. Similarly, you can also use forums and participate into discussions. And whenever you post a reply, your website's URL will be there in the signature.

However, probably the most effective and least time consuming way is to writing original and interesting content on your website. Come up with new ideas instead of just writing the same old stuff that your readers can found on any other site. You don't even have to post every day. Think about what you want to write, come up with innovative ideas and then publish your article every few days. If your post is really unique and interesting then your readers will share it with their friends. Other bloggers will write about it and thus get you even more links. One such post can have a huge impact on the amount of backlinks you get. And most importantly, it is not very time consuming. You do not have to do any repetitive directory submission or anything. Also, your blog's reputation goes up and the traffic increases. Thus, you are killing two birds with one stone.

Google rolls out its new logos

Google recently published a post on their blog about their new logos called New Logo Look. The post features a couple of new logos including those of Google Maps, Google News and Google Docs. Not all the logos are in use presently but according to Google, they soon will be. These logos should make it easier for the users to recognize the site that they are on.

To be honest, I don't really see much of a difference between the previous logos and the new ones. One or two things may have been changed but overall there is nothing impressive to talk about the new logos.

How's the new look?

Well you guys have probably noticed that SEO and Blogging Tips looks different now. That's because I got a new template and thought I would use it as I was having some problems with the previous one. I love this template. It's extremely clean, easy to use, spacious, and looks great! Also, the new template allows me to put up my featured posts for my readers (see the sliding panel on the homepage).

One more thing that has changed is that now SEO and Blogging Tips is nofollow. This blog had always been nofollow except for a couple months when I was using the last template. I hope it is ok with you guys.

Now that my exams are finished and summer has begun, I have time to devote to this blog (and several more). My two main goals are to increase the traffic and pagerank. As you may have noticed, the pagerank is now 2 whereas it used to be 4 before.

Final exams are coming up and I have been focusing on studying most of the time. As soon as I finish my exams, I will be back.

Once it is public, you friends will get to see the link and will visit it if they like it. Share links from your site and see the traffic increase!
Twitter - This site is like a mini version of facebook. Through twitter you can let your followers know what you are doing. The best thing is that you can use links in your status updates! Create a profile for your website on Twitter and then put a link on your site so that people can follow you on twitter. Then, whenever you write a new article, just let your followers know through Twitter.
Forums - There are several forums that you can use to get traffic and that's why I didn't specify any particular forum. Choose a forum related to the niche of your site and use it for traffic. How? First, be active at the forum and get to know other members. Place a link to your website in your signature. If someone wants to learn about something and you just wrote an article on that topic few days ago, let the person know about your article!
Social Bookmarking Sites - Again, there are so many social bookmarking sites that it is hard to just pick one. Also, some bookmarking sites work better for one site than another. For example, StumbleUpon works more for me than Reddit. Just like with forums, you should try to get to know the community at these bookmarking sites. Only then you will be able to get noticable traffic.

How Blogging Got Me A Swatch!

I see all these make money online bloggers posting about what they bought from the money that they earned through blogging so I decided to write such a post myself as an inspiration for my readers. I don't like to talk rubbish and waste my readers' time so here are the three main points of this post:

It IS possible to earn money via blogging!
It WILL NOT make you rich overnight!
It CAN get you a sexy Swatch!

Ever since I was in middle school, I had this insane craze to buy a Swatch watch. Actually, my friend had a swatch and I loved it! It was absolutely beautiful. Now, to be honest, I have seen other watches that look better than any Swatch watch yet Swatch is not as expensive as others and is still damn good and SEXY!

Finally, some years later, I am able to buy a watch for myself with money that I earned only from blogging. I got myself a Swatch Windfall that is worth $165.00 currently. You might think that it is a little expensive but it is worth every damn penny. Just take a look at the picture and I am sure you will love it.

It's an amazing feeling to have earned money solely from the internet and to buy something yourself without anyone's help. Now I am saving more money to get a nice laptop for college since I am doing Electrical Engineering. I am thinking of buying one of Dell laptops that are worth around $500-$800. Hopefully, I will be able to reach that target in two three months!

Thus, they get to enjoy the profit. Buying and selling domains is similar. You buy a domain and wait to sell it to the right customer to earn a profit. If you are smart and you know how this business works, you can earn a lot of money.

Of course, you need to know two important things: which domains to buy and where to register domains cheap. Firstly, you need to know which types of domains are in demand and which are not. Earning Money From Selling Blog Posts

Few days ago, I wrote a post about 5 popular ways to earn money for bloggers and I promised my readers that I would write follow posts to provide details about each of those five ways. I will start with the last method first: Selling Posts.

Nowadays, there are millions of blogs online and people love to read them. Over the last few years, blogs have become extremely popular. A lot of times, bloggers use their blogs to express their opinions and when people read these blogs, they get influenced by those opinions. Thus, what a blogger writes on his or her blog is very importance. Of course, the importance level depends on the quality and popularity of the blog.

A common method of earning money for bloggers is to sell their blog posts. How does that work? It's very simple. The buyer will ask you to write a positive blog post about his company's products explaining the key features. Most of the times, the post will also contain at least one link to the product's website. He will pay you a certain amount of money for the job. And you are done!

Bloggers don't always review company products but also websites and anything else that might require promotion.

Prices
Not all blog posts are worth the same. There are numerous factors that determine how much a buyer would be willing to pay for a blog post on your blog. I will try to highlight some today.

PageRank - The higher the PageRank of your blog, the more you will be paid for your posts.
Traffic - The more traffic your blog gets, the more you will earn from your posts.
Outgoing links - The less the outgoing links from your blog, the more money you will have in your pocket!
Niche - Blogs with similar niches as the buyer's product/website will receive more money.

These are all the points that I can think of right now but I am sure I missed one or two. Anyways, I am sure you know why PageRank and Traffic are two important factors. Lets move on to the last two. The number of outgoing links from your blog is very important since the more links you have the less the PageRank juice your buyer will receive. Niche is also an important player since it will mean that the buyer will get relevant traffic from your blog.

How do you contact buyers?
It's not easy to find buyers to purchase blog posts from you. In fact, sometimes it can be really difficult. However, there are some sites that can make your life easier. You should try webmaster forums such as Digital Point, V7N and Webcosmo Forums to sell your posts. There are also specialized sites such as PayPerPost and Sponsored Reviews made just for buying and selling posts.
