Twisty Flower Tutorial on My Youtube Channel

Well hasn't it just been months since I've uploaded a tutorial video??? I know! I'm working on getting better with that, I promise. I'm actually updating the blog regularly, see? So I am trying!

The new tutorial is easy and works with 5 or 6 petal big or small flower punches, die's or personal electronic cuts. You can check the entire video out here: My Youtube Twisty Flower Tutorial Video

The simple steps broken down into images if you don't feel like going to Youtube.

Start with the tweezers in the
center of the petal and twist.

Like this!

Make four flowers all twisted up

Add a blob of glue (I used a hot glue gun to go faster)
in the center of the flower.

Stick the next flower on top and repeat glue/flower layering.

After four layers this is what you have.
Add a button, bead, seed beads, or bling to the center.

Goals: Part 2

So a few weeks ago I posted Goals: Part One...well, this is part two.

And Part Two is going to be HUGE. It's probably going to take me several months to complete. I need to be okay with that and okay with the fact that it doesn't have to be perfect, just pretty and functional and as long as it's how *WE* like it, that's all that matters. *huge breath* Yea, that's going to be the hard part since I'm such a danged perfectionist!

I've finally decided to organize and DECORATE my apartment. The past few years we've moved every year. First from Dean to a friends while we waited for our apartment to be ready, then to Lake, and now here to Mitchell Wagon. (No, I am not one of those who think someone's going to come and murder us in our sleep or whatever. I love sharing my apartment with people. It's historical and amazing! So yea, it's personal information, but I trust that you're not gonna show up on my doorstep with a poisonous apple!) We've been here just over a year and we really love it. The artist community is great, even though I haven't stepped forward and dove INTO the artist community part. Just being in a building with other artists has been a wonderful inspiration. We also realize that we are so not moving anywhere anytime soon. So, that being said...I'm sick of the second hand, hand-me-down look of our apartment. The only thing on the walls is really pictures of Ryder and most stuff is just a mish-mosh of unorganized crap.

I think I'm going to start in the bathroom. It's the smallest room of the the house and is the only room where there is NOTHING on the walls! (Well, the mirror that originally came with the place and the medicine cabinet, that I just recently learned should contain everything BUT medicine! Anyone else know this?) So I've been scouring Pinterest for ideas and I have a few that I like.

I think my problem is that I have too many ideas and too many thoughts and just don't know where to start. I'm quite overwhelmed. There's so much that I want to do, but I need to take the time to get it all done. I want to put up mirrors over the closet on my back wall. (Our apartment is 75" from back wall to window wall. We have only four windows in the entire main space (two in Ryder's room and none in our!) so lighting at the back of the place is dim. I'm thinking mirrors will bounce light into the back part of the space and will take up a lot of unused whitepace on my walls. I'm thinking some of those tall Ikea style, back of the door mirrors, but doing something unique with the frames, or maybe extending the frames so they're more "bulky" adding maybe 1x4's around it to frame it out with maybe some chevrons or polka dots (really big random polka dots! YUM!)

I want to build a workspace for my craft area. I HATE that my desk faces the wall (only wall....we live in a loft, I have no walls! GREAT for space! I love the openness of my place. I hate that I only have two real walls that I can use. Ya know?)

And Mr. Man himself just found the best deal EVER! An old 4 poster style bed frame for under $15 bucks at Goodwill! We'll be restaining it and possibly upholstering the headboard. (I'm thinking soft (faux) leather or maybe a rich velvet type fabric.) It needs new finials as those were missing, but I get to pick out (or make) the ones that really speak to me. (YAY for no more waterbed frame!!! We'll have a real grown up bed! LOL)

For the kitchen I NEED to restain the table. (An amazing find at an antique store for under $100 for the huge table and six chairs!) When the finish heats up it gets sticky. I'm thinking the varnish they used (eons ago) wasn't meant to hold hot dishes. LOL (Worse yet, I tried to use it as an ironing board since I don't have one and now I have the towel imprinted where I sit! LOL It's actually quite hilarious!) So yea...and I wanna stain it darker and maybe upholster the chairs to have soft, cushy seats. (Jer's not quite happy about that as it's a lot more work involved, but I thin it'll really be worth it in the end.)

I also want to build an island/breakfast nook thingie as we have highly limited counter space. An overhead pot rack would be awesome and I need to come up with ideas for over the cupboards. I have a few, but not in LOVE with any of them. One does keep coming back though. I keep thinking of making a restaurant style menu board with items that we have regularly and decorating the top of the cupboards with milkglass items or some pretty decorative plates/dishes.

We won't even start on how much I want to do for the craft room (other than the work surface) or the living room or the entryway. Ryder's room is pretty much done. I want to paint his bunk beds (red or black) and he really needs more shelving for his Pez collection. I'm trying to wean him out of the "baby" toys and toyboxes. (The two Little Tykes boxes were cute years ago, but they just seem so babyish now. I want him to have a room that feels like a "big boy" room now that he's going to be starting Kindergarten this year. (OMG! Yes, he's five already! Where does the time go?)

See, a huge goal that's going to take me a long time to get done. I'm just scared I'll give up halfway through because it's taking so long. :| Any suggestions on how to keep that at bay and HOW to start? I'm so overwhelmed that I just don't know what to do!

Maskquerade Mask Swap @ LSH

I created the masquerade mask swap at LSH because I collect them and wanted to try my hand at making them. I LOVE how this one turned out and honestly, if it wasn't pink, I'd be really sad to see it go! LOL

The idea behind this mask was that I got a blue cracked paint mask up at the Dells on vacation last month. My partner loved pink and I wanted to try to replicate the blue one I picked up. I just LOVE how this turned out (and if it wasn't pink, I'd be hard pressed to send it! LOL) I TOTALLY love how the silver swirls turned out and the stick is detachable so it's easier (and smaller) to mail. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the feather spray on the side!

Had a blast making this! I really hope my partner likes it as much!!! :)

Journey into the World of Sewing

Oh what was I thinking? Seriously, ME sew? I don't know how to use an iron and I don't even own an ironing board.

That's going to have to change! I had fun making this cute lil purse and please don't laugh that it's off centered and my seams aren't actually even... :\

First attempt at a from scratch project. (World of MANY firsts that is!) First real sewing project (t-shirt re-do's aside.) First attempt at a pocket. First attempt at a box pleat. First attempt at sewing in general!

Purse is complete with lined handle, lined inside and fully lined inner pocket. (Yes, that is a box pleat gusset on the outside pocket, thanks for noticing that and NOT that the pocket is off center!)

Fully lined inside and inner pocket! (Nope, no zipper...didn't have one in the house! LOL

Bottom complete with box corners that are fairly even on both sides. LOL Even with a ruler and tailors chalk one side came out slightly larger than the other. :\

Yes, I know I'm my own worst enemy. I know I'm going to be harder on myself than anyone else will be. Like I said, it is my first attempt at sewing and I'm getting over the fact that it's not perfect. I'm very proud that I didn't make something like a pillow for my first project. (What am I going to do with yet another pillow in my house? The other half would kill me if there was another pillow somewhere! LOL) I know everything I have a problem with will get better over time with practice.

The cell phone pocket on the front it slightly off center, but it's the perfect size for my cell phone. I'm very proud of the fact that I measured right and managed to get the gusset/box pleat (which is again, slightly off center!) figured out. Even if I did forget to line that pocket. LOL (But I did figure out the band at the top *AND* getting elastic in there, so that counts for something, right?)

All kidding aside, I am 100% proud of this project and will use it with pride until it wears out or I decide to make a new one. (Probably the latter. I played tug of war with the straps to make sure they were secure! Those babies aren't going ANYWHERE!)

Dresser for Dresser Swap

Here's the dresser I made for the July dresser swap here on LSH. I love it so much that I'm having a hard time parting with it! LOL (I'm glad I have enough paper and trim to make myself an identical one!)

What I did different than the first one I made:

I created the files in Illustrator and turned them into SVG's to cut on my Cricut. Made it so much easier to square everything up and have things go together perfectly. I even included score lines so I knew where to fold.
I lined the inside of the drawers and used white gesso for the inside of the top part and the outside of the drawers to hide the cereal box I was using. (Okay, frozen pizza box from the most amazing chicken alfredo pizza!)

Supplies used:

Papers by K & Co and Recollections. (Cream paper is K & Co and turquoise paper is Recollections.)
Brown seam binding
Wavy trim from Michael's $1 bin Cream ribbon from Michael's (don't remember the brand)
"Feet" are from the $1 store "table scatters" I found a few months ago and match the blue perfectly!

Where to start? First, I didn't get the uber awesome design team spot. Darn it! I tried! I know I don't have a lot on the blog yet, so it was a long shot....After lots of thought, I've realized I just need to work more. Actually...I've thought a lot recently about what I want and what I want to do. I've come up with some ideas and so me goals and I thought I'd share them with y'all. Well, that and get them down on "paper" and maybe get some feedback.

Goals: Part {one}

1} I *NEED* to use the camera more. Like every day.
{I also really want a new lens. Maybe that 50mm one to start with, but definitely a better zoom or telephoto lens before softball/baseball season starts next year. The "stock" one that came with my "pre-owned" Canon isn't the greatest.}

2} I want to learn to sew. Like seriously sew. Like make the clothes *I* want to wear. (And make cute things for the boy. He's growing so much I have to buy shirts 2 sizes too big to get length!)
{I am getting a "new to me" sewing machine next weekend. It's a Brother HS-1000 that was only $50. My MiL said it was a good one and would be good to learn on. I'm excited. I want it tomorrow, but I must be patient.}

3} I *NEED* to organize and "clean sweep" my entire house. We've moved so much that there's a ton of stuff we haven't used in the year we've been here. It's time to go through it. It's time to get rid of it. My building is stunningly beautiful. I want my home to match.

4} Which leads us into, I want new furniture. Not just any old, hand me down furniture. We got a flat screen TV (finally!) and it's sitting on my coffee table because I HATE every stupid "media center" on the market. And I refuse to pay $600 for the one I like.
{And I refuse to pay $120 for the ladder shelf I want...and I want TWO of them!) Nope, we have the woodworking room downstairs. I was great in wood shop in middle and high school. I'm going to build what I want. And I'm going to build it cheaper than I could have paid for it. (I'm working on figuring out how to get a stash of reclaimed/salvaged wood...any ideas?}

5} I need to realize that not everything happens over night. I won't get what I want right away, but I need to learn to be patient. This is going to be my hardest goal. I have no patience. I never have. I probably never will, but I'll at least attempt to fake it while inside I'm bouncing up and down like a 2 year old!

6} And lastly - I want to organize my time better. I want to have time every day to craft or sew, to make dinner, to spend with the man and the boy, to work, to try to get my Scentsy business off the ground so I can quit my "day job" and have more time to spend with my family.

There are so many things that I want to do that I don't know where to start. I'm so overwhelmed right now. And to make matters worse, I have to actually work next week! (LOL Yup, in the smack dab middle of summer break, I have a week to work!) But I volunteered to be a "Crew Leader" at VBS this year. I mean, I'm one of the few staff of Kids Klub that's not working summer "kamp" so it's one way of getting to see the kids before school starts. The mini gets to go to VBS this year, now that he's 5!

Anyway...I think that's about it for now!! Thanks for listening to me ramble!

Robin's Nest DT Submission crosses fingers

When things go wrong they go really, really wrong!!! I had all intentions to have it posted first thing in the morning as I finished up a project late last night. Unfortunately for me, I ended up screwing my knee up something awful and spending the entire morning in the doctors offices. (Yes, plural! And YAY for me, I'm 35 and have severe arthritis in my left knee (that wouldn't have been found if I hadn't messed my knee up, so I guess in a way it was a good thing... or something like it.) I will be needing total knee replacement, but because I'm only 35, I don't even qualify as a candidate currently and my only ***ONLY*** option is cortisone shots. Seriously...it hurts like h**l folks. I'm not even supposed to be sitting at my computer right now, but I'm determined to get this posted. If it's too late for submission, fine, I think it's still an awesome project and I started it before I even heard about the DT call at Robin's Nest! (Which I have been eyeballing their Dew Drops for a while now! Goodness, I <3 bling!)

Anyway - on to the project!

The template for this mini dresser is available at A Lil Scrap of Heaven. (Monthly subscription of just $1 is required to get access to the template, but it's so worth it! These ladies are *AMAZING* I <3 this site almost as much as I <3 my computer or camera! LOL)

Don't pick on the photos. I'm hopped up on pain killers and only had the lil Kodak not my good Cannon and I sure as heck couldn't walk the block and a half that is my building to go shoot this outside like I normally would. :( In all fairness, these photos are horrible, I apologize now! LOL

When I picked up Graphic 45's Communique paper I was in love INSTANTLY! I have been hoarding this pack for just the right projects. I think this paper is perfect for the mini dresser (that now holds all of my lil chipboard die cuts!) I just adore the vintage feel and the writing and old advertisements. It doesn't hurt that I'm a fool for harlequin patterns either! *le sigh* Don't get me started on fleur de lis either! LOL

I did a lot of glitter glue swirlies on this. I've been getting more and more into sparkle, bling, glitter lately. Oh the irony since I'm not a girly girl! And another new favorite of mine is iamroses.com flowers. OMG!!!! The photos do not do these flowers justice! (A side note, the white and off white ones color really well no matter if you're using Glimmer Mist or paint.) I think I have stuck a few on all of the projects I've done recently! I'm so gonna have to order again soon!)

Wanna make your own? Easy!!! Just download the template from A Lil Scrap of Heaven and cut it out on chipboard (or like me, cereal boxes!) add paper and decorations and viola!!

Technique tip: Weathered Fleur de Lis

Step 1. Paint chipboard cut out with a base layer (any color, mine was red.)

Step 2. Paint again with top color (any color, mine was black)

Step 3. When dry, sand lightly with fine grit sand paper or emery board.

Step 4. Coat with Crackle Accents, Tim Holts Distress Crackle Paint or similar. (I used clear, but you could use a colored crackle paint if you wanted a third color.)

Step 5. WAIT! Seriously, don't use your heat gun to speed up the crackle finish. I learned this the heard way a long time ago. It creates bubbles under the top "skin" and it won't crackle right or becomes cloudy.

Trinket Shelf Project

I designed the files in Illustrator and cut them out on my Cricut (svg files - available soon on my Etsy!) It uses 3 sheets of paper. I used 2 plain cardstock pieces and one patterned cardstock piece. You could use double sided paper and flip it around! It would be really ironic to use wood grained paper! LOL (I think I might just try that!) Other than the demo one, I think my next one I make of these is going to be more steampunk. I'm starting to really get into that look and it would look great in my apartment with the brick and exposed pipes!

I love how it turned out. Ryder LOVES collecting rocks so I stuck a few of those and one of his Army guys in there. (He's obsessed with anything Army thanks to his Uncles! LOL) I maded the stick pink and some of the little flowers. I glimmer misted some Iamroses leaves, flowers and buterflies. The stick pin at the top by the string and the charm on the left side were the first ones I ever made and Ryder picked out the beads for them, so I thought it was perfect to use for this. :) Of course a key...cos he's the key to my heart! :)

So as soon as I get some plain shots of the cuts and simple put together (and maybe do a tutorial walk through on how to assemble, even though it's SUPER simple!) these svg files will be available in my Etsy! :) I hope y'all like it!

So not related to scrapping in any way, but the Boogieman just made me a "book" all about mom. :) He wrote Mom all on his own (I helped him spell it, but hey, he just turned 5!) It's a book of everything I do for him. Granted, it's one sheet of paper folded in half, but hey, it's the thought that counts, right? He just brought me to tears!! I swear I have the best lil man ever! I even told him I didn't care about the mess up on the N (and small m on top) because it was the first time he even TRIED to write anything other than his name!

Most Awesome Book of Mom

I know the photo quality sucks, it was taken with the camera on the Galaxy, so I could upload it right away. LOL The scribbles around it are supposed to be all the wonderful things I do for him and the upper left corner is a heart for how much he loves me.

I started crying (tears of joy!) and Boog just looked at me and asked me why I was sad. He's going to make some lady happy some day! LOL He's only 5 and is concerned with someone else's feelings! Not only did he make me happy with the "book" but with his actions as well!

Key to My Heart

WOOT WOOT! Y'all are excited, eh? The first download with the new blog!!! I've been busily creating stuff now and have for your download enjoyment an SVG file that will work with SCAL (Sure-Cuts-A-Lot) and MTC (Make the Cut.) I haven't tested in MTC as I have SCAL 2, but it should work the same. I know I'm a little late for Valentine's Day, but I figured what the hey, I'm always using keys in my stuff lately! Something I'm totally obsessed with!!!

The zip contains both the png files for those who want to print them out and hand cut them. (See, I thought of those who don't have a Cricut, Eclips, or similiar!)

March iamroses Color Challenge - Green, Gold & Glitter!

I finally got my first shipment of iamroses flowers! OMG! I should have waited and done a haul video, but I was too excited and couldn't resist tearing into it when it came in! Okay, that was a few days ago! I've been busy, busy, busy creating with them and doing family stuff! As promised, I have new stuff to show off. I should have had these up a few days ago but better late than never, eh?

I made a cute wreath for our door for St. Patrick's day and it's highlighted with some lovely iamroses.com products and some things I cut out on my Cricut.

iamroses.com products used:
CA1-151 - 50 White Carnation
S10-15 - 100 Small White Flowers
ZQL0-151 - 100 White Roses Leaves
The top flower was made with 3 layers of the gift they sent me! I wish I knew what it was so I could credit it!

How to Make:

I took an old embroidery hoop and wound 1 skein of Martha Stewart green fuzzy yarn around it to create the base of the wreath. I made the "sprays" with some old beads I had laying around.

I took some thin wire (don't know the gauge, but it's pretty thin and pliable.) and put it through the 1st bead and looped it around and then slid the other beads on and hot glued them in place on the wire.

The top hat was cut designed in Illustrator and cut out on the Cricut with Sure Cuts A Lot 2 and the pot of gold was downloaded from the web (I wish I could remember where for you guys!) and then cut out on the Cricut.

I glittered the buckle, top layer of the pot and the edges of the top layer of the gold to make them sparkle!!! I used my home made glimmer mist on the white flowers to make them slightly antiqued and very shimmery and used actual Glimmer Mist on the leaves. The white flowers on the hat were rubbed across a green ink pad.

For the top flower I used 3 layers of the gift the folks over at iamroses.com sent me. (If anyone knows exactly what product this is, let me know because I love them!) I inked the edges of the petals with the same dark green as the flowers on the hat and then used my embossing stylus to curl up the petals. I stuck a brad in the center and glued it onto the wreath to hide where the ribbon hanger attaches on the screw part of the embroidery hoop.

I shall be posting new content soon. We just took a trip down to Gurnee and I found my new favorite store!!!!! I really fell in love with Archivers!!!!! I didn't even get through the whole store and picked up a ton of new stuff.. And I got my iamroses.com order in yesterday. Talk about a great day. Those flowers and leaves are stunning.. I can't wait to use them.

Things have gotten hectic around here. Working double the hours I'm used to, so I haven't had a lot of time to do a whole lot. I did get a few cool things since our taxes came in. I got a Big Kick! If was even sale 30% off, too!! Way cool. And our local Hobby Lobby started carrying Graphic 45 paper, so I picked up Communique. I also placed my first order with iamroses.com. I can't wait for them to get here. I know it'll still be a few Weeks, but I guess I need to learn patience. I'm hoping I get some time off next week for Spring Break. Id like do spend some time with Ryder while he's off school and get some crafting and maybe some designing done. I am currently working on a slick set of vintage keys and locks in SVG form to put up in my Etsy shop. Will link when I'm not on the tablet. Should get do bed soon. Work comes early in the morning.

New Projects!!

WOOT WOOT! I'm all kinds of excited to be able to post some new projects that I've done in the past couple of weeks. I finally found some time to get some real crafting done and have managed to get a few spiffy things done. I'm hoping by next year at this time I'll have a beautiful blog, lots of amazing new site readers and a bazillion photos of new projects, downloads, files, etc for y'all! (Well that and I so want to enter next years Graphic 45 design team call) On to the photos!!!! First - a notebook I made for my mom. It was my first time using the Bind-It-All that I got for my birthday. Also used the IRock setter to set the studs.

This is probably the first project I did. A wreath for Valentine's Day. I love how it turned out. The papers are a set that I created From Paris With Love and the kit will be available soon on my Etsy shop. (Maybe another shop if I can find a good website that I can call home!)

I have a couple more that I haven't taken pictures of yet. I thought I did, but I do have the video up on YouTube.

The Amazing Craft Deal

I couldn't believe it myself, but someone here locally was selling her entire scrap room. It started a little before Christmas and my mom and boyfriend decided that was the perfect present. I went down with $25 and got a TON of stuff! A week later, she still had almost everything so I went back down and got a ton of stuff for $20 and Jeremy picked me up the Xyron Create-A-Station 5" and 9" and a 9" refill for $20! (Dude, those retail over $215 all together in the store!) The following week I went down and picked up 25 Zig 2 way small chisel tip glue pens for $10 and for $5 3 Glimmer Mists + 2 Tattered Angels big stamps that coordinate with the Glimmer Screens (that I now must find just cos they look cool and I wanna try the whole set.) A few days later she posted EVERYTHING left, including storage bins, for $50. There just happened to be another 9" Xyron and a friend of mine just happened to be here and told me she'd give me $20 for it, so I got everything else for a whopping $30!!! I ended up lugging 2 big totes, the purple bin, and the drawer bins back in my truck (good thing it was just Jer and I! Otherwise Ryder would have been holding stuff on his lap! LOL Check out the Youtube video I made for it! You'll be amazed by what I got for $110!!!!

New Year - New Blog!

New year...reNEWed vigor in crafting/designing! In the past year we've moved into a new building. One that is geared towards artists! I'm so excited about the move. I've really been getting back into crafting and designing since getting in here. :) I now have my own craft area. It's flippin' amazing! I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful space! I got my first Cricut. A 6x12 Personal Cutter second hand and fell in love with it. I started designing SVG files in Illustrator and have been having a ball with those. Ended up getting a WONDERFUL deal on an Expression. (Thanks to my loving Uncle who picked it up for me and let me pay him back for it!) I'm the proud owner of an acid green Expression. (K, the color could have been purple, but I'll live. It's a flippin' Cricut!) I finally finished a new project. I made a wall hanging for Jeremy. :) I love how it turned out and I'll have to post pics later of it finally hanging up after I figure out where to put it. LOL

A Fresh Start

First - you'll notice there's nothing here. I apologize for this. 4Shared deleted all of my content due to inactivity. I've been so busy the past few months, I haven't been able to get online a whole lot. From being sick to moving, everything that could have happened, HAS!

I fully intend on restarting my digital scrapping career as well as reinventing my old Poser career. :) I'll be including some 3D items with my offers now, so be on the look out for some new stuff coming soon.

I'm also working on a actual site complete with my very own store! WOOT WOOT! Thanks to my good friend Michael for extending me hosting service! I'll let everyone know when I've figured out the cart and stuffs!

So for now....yes I moved again! Into an amazing complex built specifically for artists! It's been very inspiring! Our apartment is just about done, so I should be having time soon to sit down and actually work!

Downloading from 4Shared

Please follow these easy to understand directions to download files from 4Shared. Remember, all computers are different, so your settings may differ from mine. Windows XP and up send downloaded files to a Download folder in your My Documents folder, unless you've specified otherwise. If you download a file and can't locate it, please do a search for the filename to find it's location.
