Today I really struggled to find inspiration for a P365 photo, then just as I was getting desperate I looked out the window and saw the Moon. Problem solved!

Naomi bought this beautiful piece of translucent blue agate at a gem show, and I wanted to do it photographic justice.

I used a Canon 580EX flash at 1/4 power in a Lumiquest Softbox LTp with the stone resting on a sheet of paper directly on top of the softbox (which was facing up).

I put another flash (a LP160) beside me on the desk pointing at the ceiling for a soft bounce-back illumination of the front of the stone. A couple of power tweaks were needed to balance the two flash sources with the second flash ending up at 1/2 power.

When I’m stuck for an idea for a photo I usually grab my macro extension tubes and look around the house for something to shoot up close. This time it was an Aussie native flower Naomi bought at the market today.

Naomi and I decided to have a day driving around our local area to scout for photo locations and to get out of the house. This gorgeous fern-lined creek is in a reserve just 8kms from our house. I’ll definitely be returning here for a shoot in the near future!

With the milestone of 50 days of Project 365, the sky is the limit! And with that terrible pun I present to you this fisheye photo of the sky over our home.

This was taken tonight, with all of the blinds in our house closed and the trees lit up by the torch/flash on my iPhone. Through the duration of the exposure I light painted the trees overhead.

I took a sheet of aluminium foil, crinkled it up a bit, and stuck it to my power drill, using a pen taped to the drill chuck for support. I set the camera up on the tripod with a 2 second delay and a 0.5sec exposure time.

Before the timer finished I started the drill up and slowly spun the foil. This reflected the warm lights in the room, as well as some blue highlights reflected from my monitor. The spinning effect was very effective over the exposure duration!

Another mystery shot for you to try and work out :) How did I create this one? I’ll give you a clue: It’s using one of the tools I used for a previous shot. I’ll post the explanation with my next P365 entry! :D

A shot of a pinball on my keyboard. This is actually a test shot for another idea I want to re-attempt after having limited success years ago. You’ll see when I succeed :)

I used my 500mm telephoto with extension tubes to get as close as possible and to fill the sensor so that as much detail as possible was visible in the reflection. It seems I didn’t have quite enough depth of field, so the next time I’ll have to close the aperture.

My mum returned today from a trip to the UK and Denmark. With her she brought me a souvenir… this. When she gave it to me I was SO confused. Anime in Cornwall? How did she know Yui was a favourite character?

Turns out she found an anime shop in Denmark and was suggested this figure when she said I liked "cute girls". Way to go mum, I love her! :D Thank you.
