The artists known as MR.FRIVOLOUS has just added some original work to Ebay. This is a great chance to get an original work for a great price. It looks as though all of the works are framed, and each one is made with felt pens and posca markers. Space needs to be made for new work for upcoming shows.

New originals by Edith Lebeau

Edith Lebeau has added some original paintings to her Etsy shop. Two of the works are from 2008, and the most recent one “Mombi’s key” (shown second) was made for a show entitled “Glass cinder and Thorns” in Royak Oak, MI. The painting was inspired by the movie “Return to Oz”. All of Edith’s work are with acrylic paint, even though the rendering looks very similar to what others do with oils.

Dan Quintana and Pooch @ Last Rites Gallery

Just this passed weekend, the Last Rites Gallery in New York opened a dual show with new works from Dan Quintana and Pooch. Both artists have submitted new works for this show, and while Dan Quintana only has five paintings, unless more haven’t been added to the site, they are no less amazing than his work always is. Pooch has more than ten paintings, two of which are on guitars. Check out these preview images, and then over to the website for the full show.

Review: Get the Lead Out II @ Swoon Gallery

This past August 28th, the Swoon Gallery opened the Get the Lead out II group show. Apricot Mantle was able to head to the show for us, snap some photos and give the Creep Machine another review.

A whirlwind of creativity exploding with graphite onto paper. Get the Lead Out II was a one night only pop-up show at Ronin Gallery featuring artist sketches, pen & ink drawings, watercolors and finished paintings presented by Swoon Gallery. This show was fast, furious, fun and full of precious small to medium artworks to be enjoyed only for one night. It was one of those magical rare shows that gave the viewers a chance to see some rare drawings and sketches coming from some of their favorite painters while also showcasing some artists who use graphite as their primary medium.

There was an amazing variety of artwork ranging from very delicate, refined drawings to quick sketches that were probably preliminary sketches for soon to be paintings. The gallery curator did a great job of finding an array of artists with very different subject matter and styles. Chuck Hodi did some great little dark creature sketches. Jessica Ward featured some of her ever so beautiful yet hairifying female figurative drawings. Matt Dangler had some scary little monster dude drawings in nice custom frames.

Then on the other side of the subject matter spectrum we had Daisy Church, Ana Bagayan and Tiffany Liu with some of their really cool drawings of cute doll-like characters with some even cuter critter friends. Much of the artwork had to do with figures in nature, which was very interesting to see. Leontine Greenbug and Christopher Umana each did some fantastic tree creature pieces. I think this showed a link that all artists share to the natural world we live in. Some of the most interesting pieces were Jessamyn Patterson’s figurative drawings with abstract graffiti/ivy-like blobs taking them over. Those were great fun and had a lot of detail to look at.

Many of the artists in the show were also in attendance which was great to see. Christopher Umana and his wife were there. He was doing some sketches for some patrons. Ana Bagayan, Tiffany Liu, Jessica Ward and Daisy Church were also there. I almost forgot to mention the best part of this show. The prices! They were all priced extremely reasonably. Much of the artwork was under 300 dollars. There were probably 50 pieces in the show or more for 100 dollars! In fact, now that I think of it I think a lot of the artwork was underpriced, but I guess for a one-night only show it was priced to move. Bottom line is I hope to see Swoon Gallery do some more of these fun one night stand art shows!

“Never Forever” by EGO @ Basement Gallery

I can’t believe I missed this one. The always talented artist EGO, opened a solo show entitled “Never Forever” at the Basement Gallery in Boise, Idaho, this past July 24th. The show will come down this September 4th, so if your in the area stop by. The works are online, and look outstanding. “An Unforeseen Homecoming” by Nathan Ota @ La luz de Jesus

This Friday, September 3rd at the La Luz De Jesus Gallery is the latest solo show from Nathan Ota. The reception is from 8-11pm but if you get there an hour earlier, there will be a print release. There are over 20 new paintings, and even some pencil works. Strangeco has also started a pre-order for a new vinyl toy by Ota, entitled “Midnight Crooner” that can be found here: Strangco Pre-order. “Migawari” print by Audrey Kawasaki

Coming this Saturday, September 4th, is a new limited edition print by Audrey Kawasaki. This one is not time limited, so your going to have to fight for it if your looking to pick this one up. “Migawari”, which means To give or sacrifice oneself, was first shown at Audrey’s solo show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery this past January. The print is 19″ x 15″ on a 20″ x 16″ sheet of paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 200, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. You can also order the print framed for bit more. The print goes on sale Saturday the 4th at 1pm Pacific time.

“Conjoined Triplets” doll by Shain Erin

Shain Erin has done it again with a new custom made doll. This new one is conjoined triplets, named (left to right): Tanek, Tymon and Tercio and is 10.75″ high. This is part of a new series of works entitled “Exquisite Monsters”, which are inspired by antique wax medical models and specimens representing genetic anomalies, disfigurements and diseases. Of course many of them will be more from imagination such as this one. While there is no real life examples of a disfigurement such as this, there have been paintings that feature the Tricephalous face and even few Romanesque gargoyles. It’s a fascinating subject, one that I have been studying for a while.

New prints by Tara McPherson

Tara McPherson has added some new prints to her online, and along with the giclee prints are some small lithograph prints and postcards. The two new giclee prints are “Lost Constellations”, 18.5″ x 24″ on German Etch watercolor paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. “Weight of Water 3″, 20″ x 27″ on German etch watercolor paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 as well. There are twelve new postcards and each one can be had for $4, and there are 4 new small lithograph prints. Each of the lith prints are $10, and one of them is the long sold out “The Idealization of Asymmetrical Thought” print that was made for the Decoder Ring Project.

Eklektikos by Kent Williams @ Evoke Contemporary

Opening this Thursday, September 2nd is the latest solo show by Kent Williams. Entitled “Eklektikos”, this new exhibition will open at Evoke Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The reception is from 6-8pm, so if your around the area make sure to get there early to really check out the paintings. The show features a great blend of large scale works, and some studies with mixed media on paper. The style Williams has in drawing he figure shines through in not only his studies, but the final oil paintings as well. I love the energetic, and slightly messy way that the paint is applied.
