Dwayne Johnson to Star in ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ Sequel

So in 2008 Brendan Fraser stared in ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ and now it seems that in the sequel to this adventure fantasy (which will be titled ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) will not have Brendan at all. Instead it seems that Dwayne Johnson will be stepping up to fill the shoes of this lovable actor.

Granted it won’t be hard to fill those shoes, the first ‘Journey’ movie was good… but not great. The only thing that really made that film an okay movie was the fact that Brendan was in it (the kid played by Josh Hutcherson wasn’t bad either).

Brad Peyton is up to direct this sequel and Josh Hutcherson will be reprising his role as Sean Anderson. Just like the first movie, ‘Journey 2′ will also be shot in 3D.

The story goes, Dwayne Johnson’s character is dating Josh Hutcherson’s mom. Hutcherson is forced to bring Johnson to a mystical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather loosely based off of Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island”.

The Three Musketeers Teaser Poster

Here is a teaser poster for the upcoming ‘The Three Musketeers’. This movie is going to include stars such as Orlando Bloom, Mila Jovovich, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, and others. With the same director that brought you all the ‘Resident Evil’ movies along with ‘Death Race’ Paul W.S. Anderson.

The poster is incredibly bland and disappointing. It really makes you wish there was more to be seen but I guess that is the overall purpose of a ‘teaser’ (which is why I hate teasers).

New International Buried Trailer

I wrote the review on Buried a while back, sence then this movie has been gathering more and more buzz. It also helps that Ryan Reynolds ismore of a household name then he used to be and that alone is causing a lot of anticipation from anything the actor makes. A new international trailer has just been released to promote his upcoming movie ‘Buried’ starring Reynolds. It does a pretty good job of causing a sense of claustrophobia, I wouldn’t wish this scenario on anyone.

It’s due to release October 8th.

Two Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Images

With a little over a month to go until the release of part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and they are really dishing out the promo material. Today Empire has posted on two new images to go along with their new magazine cover.

SPOILER ALERT (only a tiny one)

My memory is really hazy of the last book so the first new image eludes me but the second image clearly shows Lupin about to attack Harry over a comment Harry made about Lupin’s baby. Lupin is troubled with guilt because he is afraid that he passed his werewolf gene on to his baby. Harry says he should not be cowering at the Weasley’s but instead he should be with his family. Lupin took the comment to heart and attacked.

Review: Sucker Punch

For starters, this movie stars and is based around a group of girls. Now in most movies that alone would be enough to turn me away from a movie but after looking at some images from this film I decided to watch the trailer and give it a shot. Even though this movie is about a band of females, it is far from being considered a ‘chick flick’. This movie has every aspect of a great movie and from what I can tell from the trailer it is sure to be an excellent, explosive, action packed ride. As an added bonus, the director is the same guy that brought you movies like ’300′ and ‘The Watchmen’, Zack Snyder!

The trailer alone shows off sword fights, gun fights, samurais, far off planets, what appears to be some sort of mafia group, Tomb Raider-ish style scenery, dragons, robots, giant stone fighting statues, world war battles, rockets, plane chases and shooting, futuristic cities, death, hand-to-hand combat. So yea, it covers pretty much everything.

Basically in this epic action fantasy, it shows the travel through the mind of a young girl as she escapes into her mind to escape her reality.

After watching the trailer I am definitely excited to see this movie just because it is my kind of movie but judge for yourself, watch it and tell me what you think of it.

Ghostbusters 3 Venkman Passes the Torch

Some of the plot has been revealed for the upcoming Ghostbusters 3. In Ghostbusters 2 it shows that Sigourney Weaver’s character Dana had a baby named Oscar and apparently Oscar will be the start of the next generation of Ghostbusters. Also they will reveal that Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) is the father of the baby so Oscar rises up to take up the family business.

According to Cinematical:

We’ve expected this, and Sigourney Weaver hoped for it to be so, but the latest rumors on Ghostbusters 3 confirm (?) Dana Barett’s son will strap on a proton pack as one of the next generation team. But here’s a rather surprising piece of the news: Oscar will be revealed to be Bill Murray/Peter Venkman’s kid after all.

So there you have it, becaues of the huge gap in time between these sequels it does seem like a good idea to have someone come along and pick up the torch. The baby seems very convenient to use… who else then the baby of The Gatekeeper to become the next Ghostbuster!

Review: Red

DC Comics have a movie coming out this coming October 15th based off there graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. This movie stars Bruce Willis as he does what he does best… action. Joining Bruce Willis in this film is Morgan Freeman, Karl Urban, John Malkovich, Brian Cox, Julian McMahon and others.

‘Red’ or Retired and Extremely Dangerous is about an ex-CIA agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis). Frank gets attacked by a high-tech assassin and Frank himself gets framed for an assassination. Taking matters into his own hands he reassembles a team of his former CIA team members to take down this threat. They must stay one step ahead of there pursuers in order to clear his name and stay alive.

Not really much else to say on this one, Bruce Willis may not be as big of a name as he once was but just the fact that he is in this movie playing another action role really brings up the hype of this movie. Plus Morgan Freeman has really shown that he has a lot of talent at what he does. He is another house-hold name and its always nice to see as many familiar faces as possible in movies like this.

John Cusack to Play Edgar Allan Poe in ‘The Raven’

John Cusack is one of my favorite actors of all time. Been a huge fan sense ‘High Fidelity’ (great movie… a must see that also has Jack Black in it) and so I’m always excited to hear about new roles he will be playing. As a bonus he will be playing the incredibly well known poet Edgar Allan Poe who is also my favorite poet (I have about half of his poem ‘The Raven’ memorized… Once upon a midnight dreary, as I pondered weak and yada yada). So to have this combination, its sort of like if you stacked the essence of everything epic on top of the stuff legends are made of.

How do we know he will be playing this role? Seems John Cusack announced this himself on Twitter saying “officiali- will play edgar allan poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss.”

Okay, enough of my over-excitment and on with the review. This film will be set in the 19th century where John Cusack will play Edgar in his final days as he tries to solve a string of murders. Each of these murders was committed using Poe’s storries as inspiration. The Raven will of course be one of the stories used along with Tell-Tale Heart, Premature Burial, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and The Cask of Amontillado. The tone of the movie is said to be similiar to that of David Fincher’s Se7en.

What do you think of John Cusack playing Edgar Allan Poe, can he pull it off? Not a fan of Cusack or how about Poe?

Review: 127 Hours

James Franco is an okay actor. He did a fairly good job in the Spiderman movies but I didn’t really follow him much until after ‘Pineapple Express’. This is one of his more serious roles though that is also based off a true story. Also the director (Danny Boyle) is the same guy that brought you movies like 28 Days Later, The Beach, Slumdog Millionaire, and others.

This trailer starts off showing James Franco’s character Aron Ralston living the good life, everything is easy going for Aron as he works as a tour guide for a canyon. While scouting through the canyon Aron runs across two women lost and tries to show them all the best spots of the canyon even if that means veering off course. At one point the two women wait while Aron treads up ahead to see if an area is safe. Aron slips and falls down into one of the canyons cracks and gets trapped under a boulder. Knowing that no one can hear his screams he must resort to extremely desperate measures in order to survive.

Story sounds a little boring… guy stuck with a boulder on his leg and he has to survive. Although the direction it shows in the trailer makes it seems really interesting. James Franco’s acting seems to really shine in this movie (although playing an easy going guy at the beginning isn’t really acting… he’s probably just being himself). The fact that its based off a true story also adds a certain charm to the movie to think that there was some joe out there who went through something like this.

Reynolds Committed to Deadpool

Seems that Ryan Reynolds is still excited about Deadpool and honestly who can blame him. He plans on riding out this super-hero momentum and pick up Deadpool after Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds is sure to be a household name (even though I have been a fan since his show ‘Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place’) after both these movies. Especially for thetons of people out there that are going to be buying Green Lantern or Deadpool merchandise.

Reelcomix quotes Lauren Schuler Donner

“Ryan is so committed to being Deadpool. He is Wade Wilson. Well, no, he’s Deadpool. He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he’s doing Green Lantern, he’s stayed involved in that project. It’s very different. It’s like Harrison Ford doing Star Wars and Indiana Jones. DC and Marvel are different universes with different movies. But sure, the more popular and well known he is the better.I’m hoping we’ll get it off the ground next year.”

So it seems that Reynolds is going to be one busy guy over the next couple years. After Green Lantern there is (hopefully) Deadpool. Plus other movies he has signed up for such as The Change-Up and The Croods.
