Liqueurs and Food

Recipes for food prepared using liqueurs, or to be served with liqueurs. If you'd like to make the liqueur, itself, a companion group imaginatively named "Liqueur Making" is available, as is one for those who'd like to share recipes for mixed drinks (or tell a few stories about the times they went drinking).

As this is a food and drink group, I would hope that there would be no reason for anybody to start getting personal, but people will do what they will do, and if they feel the need to do that, there is this outside group which I've set up, so the rest of us can enjoy our peace and quiet. If you're wondering who I am, my profile can be found here, my moderation decisions being explained in my moderation journal. You can follow both the discussions and the photo pool for this group by e-mail, through Feedburner, or by following the collective twitter for this group and its companion on DeviantArt.

When you're done, if you have a ring to return to, you can do so via Webring Webspace or via Freewebspace dot com. Either location will get you back to the same places on the same rings. Or, maybe you could use the code below.

Getting tired, but it's a good kind of tired :)

Myopic Midnight Special / Joseph Dunphy posted a new topic:

I'm busy looking for pictures either showing food which has been cooked with liqueur or in which food has been paired with liqueur. I think it is fairly important to do this before doing much posting, myself, because I've seen what happens in groups that begin with a flooding of the group's pool by the founder. They almost never seem to evolve into anything other journals being posted to and filled by that same founder, with maybe a few people signed up and never doing anything. Such a way of starting a group, regardless of what the founder's real intentions are, can send the wrong message - that the group is a showcase for what the founder is doing, that it is about him.

I don't want this group to be about me, or to be thought of as being about me, so if at all possible, I'd like to sit back and give other people a chance to be seen and heard so that when my turn comes, in all things other than administration, my voice will be just one among several, if not one among many. If you're on this group, I'd appreciate your help with this. While our interest is hardly an unknown one offline, on Flickr it seems fairly unusual, and one has to do a lot of looking to find photos that fit the theme. By the way, be very careful about inviting photos that come up under a search for "amaretto" and have captions written in Italian - I've found that many of those recipes make use of amaretti, Italian almond cookies, not amaretto, the liqueur. They looked good, but they weren't on topic.

I've tried to keep the invitations low key and respectful, with none of the myspace-like graphics of which many have complained, in the invite codes used by many other groups. While I'm sure that a graphic of a flashing, neon colored shot glass would get the photographer's attention, I'd rather we didn't go that route. We need not wonder what would happen if "everybody" did that, because we've all seen massively faved photos in which everybody did do that, and how bad that looked. If we are to stand out, let us do so by being a little more courteous than others would expect, to the extent that courtesy is possible, and by trying a little harder to do right by those around us.

I have a filler post to get rid of, a few more searches to do, and then some errands to go run. I'll be back in a few days to see who took my up on my invitations, and then decide where to take the group from there, at least in the short run.
