The article below is barrowd from Nancy Nally at scrapbookupdate.com. I, for one, am not pleased with their decision to move this direction. The great quality of the Scrapbooking Top 50 list was the whole reason it became so popular for both retailers and consumers. It’s open and unbiased presentation ofr sites by traffic rank has been the most accurate and fair listing available. Now it will be tainted. The problem with that is that most consumers will not know about this change and won’t even know that they are eseentially being duped into believing that the list is still accurate an unbiased presentation of all the top online retailers.

—

Alert: Scrapbooking Top 50 Now Charging For Listings

Scrapbooking Top 50, the website that bills itself as “ranking and providing the highest quality websites related to Scrapbooking Industry [sic]“, has stopped offering free listings in its directory to website owners. Instead, Scrapbooking Top 50 is now requiring that websites pay a fee of $9.99/month to take part in the rankings. Owners of previously ranked websites are being given 14 days to pay up, or they will be deleted from the rankings.

Consumers need to be made aware of this change because up until now, the site has served as a fairly good directory of what the top-trafficked scrapbooking websites were. Most major sites took advantage of the free sign-up and installed the tracking script on their sites. The result was a fairly complete ranking of scrapbooking websites by their traffic count.

However, the advent of pay-for-play on the site transforms the listings from being a fairly pure index of the most popular scrapbooking sites into an index of “the most popular scrapbooking sites that were willing to pay us $10/month.” It changes the whole purpose of the site, from a service to consumers that is supported by accompanyingadvertising (just like Google’s search results pages), into one single gigantic billboard.

As of yet very little change has been made to the site to reflect the fact that the content consumers are seeing is all paid ads - the site is still presenting itself as a “comprehensive” guide to scrapbooking sites on the internet. The only change is in one spot on the FAQ page that lists the new cost and on the “add a page” section - places many users are not likely to visit. I hope consumers visiting the site are made aware of the overall change in the site’s mission when companies start to get deleted due to the new payment system.

I’d love to hear from site owners about how they feel about this change - Do any think it is worth it to pay the fee?

With the popularity of scrapbooking, qoutes for use in making your scrapbook are abundant both online and in the form of books you can buy online with ready-made and styled quotes. I prefer to make my own by adding a unique flair to my designs. Sometimes I use lettering, sometimes I hand write them, sometimes I use stamps - it just depends on the vibe I’m trying to get with the page design.
Have you ever found it difficult to achieve the perfect stamped image? Do you find the stamped impressions patchy, uneven or with smudge marks around them? I know I do! I have so many wood stamp blocks, acrylic stamp blocks and in a variety of shapes and sizes. Nothing ever worked really well for me until I tried these new acrylic stamp blocks. I love the natural feel of the stamping motion and the depth gauge is a unique feature that helps make my stamping projects look much more professional.

These new Rock-A-Blocks are the answer to all your problems. The innovative patented technology works using a combination of rocking action and a depth gauge (the runners) to give even pressure to the application of ink so there is no bleed.

Choreographed Multi-Home Display Includes Over 40,000 Lights, Virtual Santa, Special Effects and More – benefiting the Hilltop Church HOPE BANK.

Providence Village, Texas (October 1, 2008) – Light show designer and Vaderville creator Darren Vader today announced that the debut light show of the 2008 holiday season will take place at 6pm on Friday, November 28th.

The Vaderville synchronized light show is made up of three neighboring houses pulsating in sync with more than 40,000 lights and special effects running on 80 computer controlled channels of animation. Highlights include a virtual Santa (who makes live appearances on weekends closer to Christmas), dozens of strobe lights, virtual snow machines, and animated video clips– all synchronized to a play list of unique versions of classic holiday songs being broadcast over an FM transmitter at 107.3fm on the dial.

Vader and his neighbors have been hard at work on their 2008 show since early March. “The technology that drives a show like ours is very cool, but it’s only a small part of the preparation equation. Every beat of every song is manually assigned to a position within a sequence, video is edited, layouts are created, props are built, and prototypes are tested. We spend about eight to nine months preparing for the 35 days or so that the show will run.”

“Our annual Christmas light show is the most important thing we do all year long. Our strong belief in ‘paying it forward’ is facilitated to a great degree by the absolute joy we see every night on the faces of visitors young and old alike,” said Vader. “This year we are partnering with Firehouse Christmas Lighting and the Hilltop Church HOPE BANK to collect donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that will help some local families have a brighter holiday.”

Vaderville is located off Highway 380 just east of Denton at 1441 Providence Blvd., Providence Village, Texas, 76227. Show times are Sunday – Thursday, 6pm-10pm and weekends from 6pm-11pm; weather permitting. This is a residential display, so admission is free. If you enjoy the display, please consider making a donation of non-perishable food items or clothing to the HOPE BANK. Donations can be placed in the collection bin at the front of the display. See www.vaderville.com for more information.

About Vaderville
Vaderville was created by Darren Vader as a unique way to merge his interest in technology and music with his love of Christmas. Much to his surprise, it quickly became the talk of the town and a new tradition for a growing number of families each year. Vader takes pride in knowing that his passion is providing joy for all who witness his creation, and that the hard work allows Vaderville to give back to the community through its work with the Hilltop Church HOPE BANK.

As most everyone I know can attest – summer presents us with a massive influx of birthday parties and baby showers. Some say it must be something in the water. I think our species just gets a little bored as winter sets in. The results of the ensuing ‘extracurricular activities’ often are the cause for both our greatest summer joys as well as our annual summer chaos. Yes, ladies – we’re talking about babies!

In my own quest to document the seemingly endless stream of new births occurring with friends and family I find it tremendously helpful when I stumble across embellishments that help make my scrapbooking time move along more productively. Hence my great love of some new products from the Heidi Grace Baby line we’ve added this month.

Our new chipboard prompts, dimensional baby word stickers and baby journal stickers are great! I especially love the dimensional baby word stickers – these are some of the cutest I have over seen. I like to use one on each spread and make it the focal point while rub-ons and other embellishments to create a soft background.

So if you’re in baby journaling or baby scrapbooking mode like I am, I highly recommend these new items from Heidi Grace.
