Picatinny Rail Bedding Job...

Rifle accuracy tip

When setting up a long range rig, consider bedding the picatinny rail to the receiver with a thin film of AcraGlas Gel (available from Brownell's). This gets rid of any stresses you can be imparting to the receiver when torquing it down, or stresses you are imparting to the picatinny rail. You will end up a with 100% contact, stress-free rail.

The particular action and rail shown below are well made, high end pieces. This rail still has slight milling marks that only a skim coat of Acraglas can fill. The machining work is top rate, but it is never going to be a perfect mate. We are filling in the small machining tool marks.

The skim coat of AcraGlas is about .001 to .002 thick after this is done. Here are the steps:

First, do not mix any powdered metal into this skim. The powdered metal will not allow the rail to seat properly.
Spray the action with mold release, clean the bottom of the rail, and put mold release on areas you don't want material to stick to, such as the cutout for case clearance on this rail.
Spray the screws and swab the holes in the rail with mold release.
Give the rail a light coat of AcraGlas (Gel preferred) and torque the screws lightly - enough that you see material starting to flow, but not anywhere near final torque. It is about 2 to 5 inch-pounds, you don't want to bend the rail into conformity. Start in the center, torque the ends last.
Clean up the edges before the AcraGlas Gel hardens.
After 24 hours, remove the rail, clean up the holes and screws, trim up any excess material.
Install the rail and torque to final torque, use Loctite on the screws, preferably red. You are not going to remove this rail so use some stronger Loctite.

If you're curious if your current rail is fitting right before bedding it, take all the screws out, put the rail on the receiver and put one screw in one end of it lightly. Tap the other end with your finger. If it makes a click, it's curved concave. If it's convex it's a little tougher to tell. You can use a feeler gauge or look for light passage under it but bedding it will remove any doubts. Hope this works for you, it has squeaked out the last bits of accuracy for our CrossTac rifles, and it's a good feeling when that rail is solid !

March update - new machines, new products, new staff!

Well, we've added more sewing machines and 4 more great people. We are trying to get our backorders out the door, and then it's on to new products. We are staying busy, and hope to bring out a bunch of new gear shortly, so stand by! In the meantime we have added Vltor, Stag, and Dawson Precision to our list of available products. Not all their items are on the website yet - that is taking a while due to the other work we've got to catch up on. BUT if you want a product from any of these great manufacturers that we don't have on the site yet, just let us know. We'll do our best to beat anyone's price and earn your business.

New Website, Moving Machinery

Hey everyone, we've redone the website and hope you like it. Please comment. We're trying to get all of the products up but not everything is online yet. Let us know if you have any problems using the cart or navigating the site. We're at it again, expanding and moving some equipment. This week's project is moving a CNC mill into our shop. Not a big deal usually, but it has to be moved in the snow! Hope everyone is staying warm, and remember there is an upside to winter and snow: You can shoot tracers without setting things on fire !!!

SHOT Show 2010

We just returned from the annual trek to the SHOT Show, and it was a great trip. This year, look for more products on our website from other manufacturers in addition to new offerings direct from us. We are launching a new line of tactical match ammunition, stand by! They will have a completely different loading schema to them vs. all of the other ammo on the market. We will be copied right away on this one for sure. Speaking of being copied, another company copied our folding shooting mat! That is both flattering and infuriating. Ours is made much better and made in the USA. With your help we'll just keep making better gear designs and the others can try to keep up by knocking us off. We are working on more new products and getting caught up on our backorders. The entire industry has been on backorder thanks to Obama, and we are no different. Our AR-15 Armorer Blocks have been sold out in advance of production capacity, and we've added staff and machines to keep up. If you have any on order, hang in there, we are getting caught up. We are working on launching a new website, and you can expect quite a few more new products from us for 2010. Expansion is in the works

We are working to expand our facility, and we need to move. It is no secret our gear has been on backorder a lot lately, and we apologize for that! We are out of room, and desperately need to grow. So, we have been looking at different buildings but it is tough to find something around here with the size and power requirements we need. You won't believe how many so-called developers built commercial buildings without 3-phase power. What were they thinking??
