They are:

Sir Barton, Gallant Fox, Omaha, War Admiral, Whirlaway, Count Fleet, Assault, Citation, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed

I like ORB because:

1) As the 2013 Kentucky Derby winner, he gives crossword constructors a new cluing angle.  We are over the moon.  Thank you very much!

2)  I’ve bet on horses a few times and always lost . . . until ORB!  Didn’t put down as much money as Tom Brady, but still. Isn’t it interesting that a horse called REVOLUTIONARY placed third behind ORB?  I’m just sayin’ …

3) SIR BARTON, winner of first Triple Crown in 1919, anagrams into ORB TRAINS.

Neigh sayers may snort at such cruciverbal logic (oxymoron?), but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  I’m betting on ORB to win the Preakness Stakes.  Here’s to hoping that he runs circles around the competition …

Ahoy! When the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum asked me to create a crossword puzzle for Kids Week 2013, I jumped at the chance to participate! Young visitors to the Museum love this special week of interactive events, including: Virtual Flight Zones, Cockpit Simulators, sports, entertainment, games and more.

The USS Intrepid is an Essex-class aircraft carrier located at 12th Avenue (Hudson River) and 46th St. You can’t miss it!

I’ll be appearing at the New York Port of Call station tomorrow (Wednesday Feb. 20), between 10am – 2pm to help with the puzzle. Please stop by and say hello!
