New Spring Catalog: Samurai Girls

We are finally adding Season 1 of Samurai Girls! If you are already watching Samurai Bride (Season 2), now is the perfect time to catch up on season 1. This will be available in the US and Canada. Premium members will have access to all episodes while free users can enjoy 4 episodes/week.

Hyakka Ryōran: Samurai Girls takes place in an alternate timeline where the Tokugawa shogunate remained active and has remained isolated from the rest of the world. There, at the Buou Academic School located at the base of Mount Fuji, children of military families train to become samurai warriors in the midst of a longstanding power struggle between Toyotomi and the Yagyu Dojo. New Spring Catalogs: Uta no Prince Sama 1, House of 5 Leaves

Hey everyone,

lugiamania here with another catalog announcement today! As promised, we will finally be launching the first season of the fabulous Uta no Prince Sama series! We will be releasing 3-4 episodes each week, at the same time that Uta no Prince Sama 2 launches, which is Wednesdays at 11:05am Pacific Time.

Uta no Prince Sama 1 will have the same territories as Uta no Prince Sama 2: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Netherlands, and Scandinavia.

For those of you waiting for the first season to start before watching season 2, wait no more!

When Haruka gets the chance to take the entrance exam for Saotome Academy for the Performing Arts, it seems as though she's one step closer to her dream of composing songs for her favorite singer, Hayato. However, this is no gleeful high school musical experience, and Haruka's hiding a dreadful secret that may silence her musical ambitions forever. And even if she does get into Saotome, the competition will be more brutal than going on Japan's Top Idol! That's because, as a writer, Haruka could be paired with any one of six radically different male singers. Will it be upbeat Otoya, serious Masato, flirtatious Ren, split-personality Natsuki, optimistic Syo, or the unapproachable Tokiya, who's rumored to be Hayato's brother? And just to make things more complicated and awkward, writers and singers are expressly NOT allowed to become romantically involved! Can one girl and six handsome young men learn to make beautiful music together in a strictly Platonic sense? They can if the oddball staff of Saotome, most of whom are current and former idols themselves, have anything to say about it in Uta no Prince Sama!

This anime short was directed by former GAINAX animator Yoh Yoshinari, who also directed Panty and Stocking, and written by Masahiko Otsuka, also from Panty and Stocking as well as Gurren Lagann. Hey guys! I bet a lot of you have been speculating just what that last box holds, and today it will be revealed as HENNEKO – The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat -!

HENNEKO – The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat - will be available on Crunchyroll starting this Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 6:30am Pacific Time, in the following territories: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

HENNEKO – The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat - is based on the original light novel of the same name, known in Japan as Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko. It was written by Sou Sagara and published in Japan by Media Factory Publishing, winning the 6th MF Bunko New Face Award. The anime series is being directed by Youhei Suzuki, who also directed The Familiar of Zero anime, and is being animated by J.C. Staff, whose other works include Little Busters! and Hayate the Combat Butler.

“Youto Yokodera is a high school sophomore whose mind is filled with base desires, but after praying at the statue of a stone cat, he finds that all of his inner thoughts are spilling from his mouth! On the other hand, Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi wishes that she would not display her real intentions so readily, and ends up completely unable to show any sort of emotion. Their wishes having been warped by the stony cat statue, a wandering tale of youth between a bright pervert and a curt girl is about to begin!”

Hey everyone,

It's lugiamania continuing on with today's new title announcements! We will be launching YUYUSHIKI tomorrow, April 9, 2013, at 1:00pm Pacific Time, available for audiences in the following territories: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Scandanavia.

YUYUSHIKI is based off of a four-panel gag by Komata Mikami. It follows the lives of three high school girls in the data-processing club: Yuzuko Nonohara, played by Rumi Okubo, who also starred in YuruYuri as Chinatsu Yoshikawa, Yui Ichii, voiced by Minami Tsuda who was Yui Funami in YuruYuri, and Yukari, whose voice actress Risa Taneda was Kaoru Asoi from Oreshura.

“Yuzuko, Yui, and Yukari, three girls who just started high school in spring, are always together. After school, the three of them attend their own "Data Processing Club" with two computers and a whiteboard between them, searching for random words on Google and then discussing the results. Their day to day life is mostly uneventful, mainly only consisting of girls flirting, but for some reason it's difficult to tear one's eyes away from this new generation of high school girls' communication. Their cute, laid-back high school lives are defined by hanging out, club activities, and occasional hints of yuri. Au uneventful, good life - that is their "yuyushiki" (rule)”

Arata's dual protagonists will be portrayed by the two of the hottest names in the anime industry: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Nobuhiko Okamoto. Mr Matsuoka is known for his roles as Array from Lagrange, Godo from Campione!, and recent fan-favorite Kirito from Sword Art Online. Mr. Okamoto, arguably one of the hardest working figures in the voice acting business, is known for garnering some of the biggest leading roles in major hit series like Beelzebub, Bakuman, Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi, Tiger & Bunny, and Blue Exorcist.

“The stage is the world of Amawakuni, where mankind coexists with the many gods. There, a boy called Arata is wrapped up in a coup d'état led by the Twelve Shinsho, wielders of swords called Hayagami. When he is accused of murdering a princess, Arata escapes to a forest, where he finds himself transported to the modern world.

Meanwhile Hinohara Arata, a high schooler in the present, is trying to deal with his new school life when his best friend betrays him. In his despair, he wanders off and finds himself in Amawakuni. When the two Aratas from two different lifetimes switch places, Hinohara takes on the life of Arata and becomes the next wielder of a Hayagami called Tsukuyo. New Spring Titles: Flowers of Evil, Samurai Bride and The Severing Crime Edge

Keikawa here to jack Michana AND Lugiamania's thread to make ANOTHER announcement today: Flowers of Evil which set to broadcast every Monday starting on April 8, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Based on the manga by Shuzo Oshimi, Flowers of Evil anime will feature the voice talents of Mariya Ise (in the role of Sawa Nakamura) and Yoko Hikasa (in the role of Nanako Saeki). Ms. Ise is notably known for her performances in hit series such as Hunter x Hunter, Bodacious Space Pirates, and Durarara!!, while Ms. Hikasa has a similar list of accolades with majors roles in Dog Days, K-ON!, and Inu X Boku Secret Service. This show will also mark the inaugural appearance of Shinichiro Ueda, as our other protagonist: Takao Kasuga.

Flowers of Evil revolves around Takao Kasuga, who is caught stealing Nanako Saeki's gym clothes by Sawa Nakamura whose cold attitude makes her generally disliked by everyone. In exchange for her silence, he makes a ‘contract’ with her, in which he must abide by all of her unreasonable demands. Initially torturous, Kasuga wants out until one day when things start to change between them...”

The Severing Crime Edge is based on the original manga, Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge, written and illustrated by Tatsuhiko Hikagi. It centers around Kiri Haimura, a boy who is obsessed with cutting other people’s hair, and Iwai Mushanokouji, a girl whose long, beautiful hair is cursed so that no scissors can cut it. After a chance meeting between the two, Kiri gets pulled into an ancient murder game where Iwai is the target of the “Killing Goods” and their owners. Now it’s up to him to protect Iwai, “The Queen of Hair,” in this love-battle story!

The Severing Crime Edge is being directed by Yuji Yamaguchi, whose other notable works include Fate/stay night and Angel Links. Newcomer voice actress Kotori Koiwai, whose previous works include Kigurumi Harokitei in Joshiraku and Yuki Funahara in Psycho-Pass, will be starring as Iwai, and Natsuki Hanae, also known for his roles as Atsuhiro Maeda in Tari Tari and Sakagami in Oreshura, is playing the role of Kiri.

Starting our Spring 2013 announcements for today is another Atlus-video-game-turned-anime, DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION!

DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION will be launching on Crunchyroll TOMORROW April 4, 2013, at 11:05am Pacific Time, and be available for Crunchyroll audiences in the following regions: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Scandinavia.

DEVIL SURVIVOR 2 THE ANIMATION is based on one of the entries in the popular Shin Megami Tensei video game series published by Atlus, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. It features the director of another adaptation of an Atlus video game, the Persona 4 anime, Seiji Kishi at the helm with Pony Canyon producing the series and animation by the studio Bridge, whose other credits works include Mitsudomoe and Saint Seiya Omega.

The anime adapts its plot from the video game, which centers around a group of Japanese high school students who receive an email foretelling deaths. Demons then begin to invade the country, and the students enter into a pact that allows them to summon the creatures to fight for their survival. The all-star voice cast includes Aya Uchida, Shizuka Hattori from Vividred Operation, as Io Nitta, Hiroshi Kamiya, whose numerous roles have earned him a Best Lead Actor at the 3rd Annual Seiyuu Awards, as Hibiki Kuze, Junichi Suwabe, another prolific voice actor who was in last season’s THE UNLIMITED Hyobu Kyosuke as Andy Hinomiya, as Yamato Hotsuin, Nobuhiko Okamoto, this past season’s Murasame from Hakkenden, as Daichi Shijima, and the ever-popular Takahiro Sakurai, Yamato Kurosawa from Say “I love you”, as Anguished One.

Keikawa here, hijacking Lugiamania's thread with another announcement regarding the addition of a new J-drama called: Random Hero!!! This series is set to air every Friday starting on April 5, at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Uta no Prince Sama 2 is the sequel to the anime Uta no Prince Sama 1, both of which are based off of the popular visual novel game for the Sony PlayStation Portable. The plot centers around a girl named Haruka Nanami who enters the prestigious performing arts school Saotome Academy and dreams of being a composer for her favorite idol. However, when she winds up being partnered with six gorgeous male idols-in-training, in a school where romance is prohibited, things start to get interesting!

Produced by the famed A-1 Pictures animation studio (Fairy Tail, Anohana, Sword Art Online), Uta no Prince Sama 2 stars six talented singers/voice actors in the roles of the six main male characters: Hiro Shimono as Syo Kurusu, Junichi Suwabe as Ren Jinguji, Kenichi Suzumura as Masato Hijirikawa, Kisho Taniyama as Natsuki Shinomiya, Mamoru Miyano as Tokiya Ichinose, and Takuma Terashima as Otoya Ittoki. Veteran voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro stands out among all the guys as their female composer, Haruka Nanami.

Season one of Uta no Prince Sama will be available on Crunchyroll at a later date.

Spring is now in full swing and we here at Crunchyroll are continuing the good news for you guys! Kicking off today's announcement is Majestic Prince, another sci-fi mecha anime to add to our Spring 2013 lineup!

Majestic Prince will be launching on Crunchyroll this Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 8:00am Pacific Time, and will be available to audiences in the following territories: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Majestic Prince is based off of a manga written by Rando Ayamine and illustrated by Hikaru Nijima. The story takes place in the future where humanity has reached out into space to gather more resources, including sending out genetically modified teenagers into deep space to mine asteroids with giant robots. At first glance, Majestic Prince appears to have all the trappings of an action-packed robot-fighting series, but upon closer inspection, Majestic Prince does not take itself too seriously and injects a good dose of humor into the whole story.

Directed by Keitaro Motonaga, whose other works include Katanagatari and Jormugand, and features character designs that will be familiar to fans of Gundam Seed and Fafner of the Azure, done by Hisashi Hirai. New Spring Titles: Mushibugyo, Auira, Sparrow's Hotel, Oreimo2, and Valvrave

Hey everyone,

Spring is here, and with it, new anime titles to announce on Crunchyroll!

First off we're going to start with some titles that we announced exclusively at Kawaii-kon a little while ago, with Sparrow's Hotel and Oreimo 2!

Sparrow's Hotel will be available to worldwide audiences starting on Tuesday April 9 at 5:30 am PDT.

For the newcomer - Sparrow's Hotel, here's a little breakdown of what you can expect to see with this particular series:

"Because Sparrow's Hotel is located downtown, dangerous things like over-drinking and fights are commonplace, which causes trouble for manager Shiokawa Tamaki. Then Satou Sayuri approaches the front desk for a job interview, listing her special skills as "large breasts" and "assassination." She is hired on a trial basis as a special task force and guard, but... Massive strength! Massive breasts?! This gag anime illustrates the daily lives of the new front desk staff, Satou Sayuri; the level-headed manager who happens to look like a middle schooler, Shiokawa Tamaki; and the guests who visit the Sparrow's Hotel just to see them."

For Oreimo 2, we are stoked to see the return of Kyousuke and Kirino, along with all the crazy otaku antics that ensue with them!

Starting on Saturday April 6 at 10:30 am PDT, Oreimo 2 will be available in the following territories: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Central and South America.

But for those new to the game, here's a little break down:
Kyousuke Kousaka is a high schooler who has been leading a quiet, humdrum life. However, his life is turned upside-down when his little sister, Kirino, comes to him for ‘life counseling.’ It turns out that Kirino, a well-rounded winner in life, has many otaku-ish hobbies and loves anime and games. Kyousuke sincerely takes on Kirino's request to tackle life counseling.

And so, as more and more people get involved--including Kuroneko and Saori Vageena, whom Kirino met via social networks; Kirino's friends, Ayase and Kanako, and Kyousuke's childhood friend, Manami--changes to their icy cold brother-sister relationship begin to appear. After overcoming the crisis of Kirino suddenly leaving to study abroad, what kind of craziness will her ‘life counseling’ cause next!

Then, yesterday, Aniplex of America announce the acquisition of Valvrave the Liberator which is to be streamed right here on Crunchyroll!

Arguably, one of the more highly anticipated series this season, Valvrave is set to broadcast Friday starting on April 12 at 11 a.m. Pacific time for its premium members in the following territories: US, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland only. Free users will get it one week after initial Crunchyroll broadcast.

To whet your appetite for more, here's a little idea of what you can expect to see:
“A new age where 70% of the human population lives in space thanks to the development of “Dyson Sphere”, a city in space. The world is divided into two main powers: The Dorssia Military Pact Federation, a power which grew out of a military alliance, and the Atlantic Rim United States (ARUS), which grew in power as it expanded its trade agreements.

The minor nation of JIOR has declared neutrality between these two forces and maintains its peace through economic prosperity. Within the JIOR’s Sphere, Haruto Tokishima lived an ordinary life as a high school student in the division known as “Module 77”—until the Dorssian military begins their sudden invasion! But the whole world will be shaken when Haruto meets the mysterious humanoid weapon, Valvrave!

Next up we have Mushibugyo, a samurai action series that takes place in an alternate-history of Edo-era Japan, where the Mushibugyo, a group of warriors, fight to protect the city's denizens from giant bugs!

Mushibugyo launches on Crunchyroll on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 3:00am PDT.

Mushibugyo will be available to Crunchyroll audiences worldwide except for: Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and The Philippines.

Based off of the original manga Joujuu Senjin!! Mushibugyo by Hiroshi Fukuda, Mushibugyo is set in an alternate history version of Edo-era Tokyo, where a special unit called the “Mushibugyo” protects the city’s denizens from the giant insects that run rampant throughout the city. Jinbe Tsukishima left his home to join the Mushibugyo, and now fights alongside his fellow comrades to exterminate the giant bugs while striving to be a warrior who never loses. He and the rest of the Mushibugyo risk their lives to protect not only the peace in Edo, but the smiles of the people as well!

Mushibugyo is being produced by Seven Arcs, whose other works include Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, the Dog Days series, and Asura Cryin’. The cast includes voice actor/singer KENN as Jinbe Tsukishima, whose debut role was Judai Yuki in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and also plays Hibito Nanba in Space Brothers. Voice actress Satomi Akesaka, also known as krkr in gdgd Fairies, stars as Oharu, and Rumi Ookubo, whose other roles include Chinatsu Yoshikawa from YuruYuri, is Hibachi.

For those seeking a light-heated comedy, AIURA will also be coming to Crunchyroll's spring lineup.

AIURA will be premiering on Crunchyroll on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 10:05am PDT.

AIURA will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience worldwide excluding Japan for Premium members, and worldwide excluding the following territories for free members: East Asia, Southeast Asia, Indian Subcontinent, Iran & Afghanistan, and Southern Pacific.

AIURA is based off of a four-panel manga of the same name, created by Chama. It’s a comedy that follows the antics of a trio of unmotivated high school girls, Kanaka Amaya, Saki Iwasawa, and Ayuko Uehara, as they do, well, not much! AIURA is being produced by the animation studio LINDENFILMS, who also animated another comedic short, Senyu.

The cast features several newcomers to the voice-acting industry, including Yui Nakajima as Kanaka, and Nao Tamura, whose other role previously was Hinata Kinoshita in The iDOLM@STER Million Live mobile game, as Ayuko. Yuko Iida rounds out the trio as Saki, with previous minor roles in hits such as Haganai NEXT, Say “I love you”, and Kotoura-San.

It's barely spring, but we're already gearing up for convention season here at Crunchyroll!

Kicking off with our first con, we'll be attending Sakura-Con from March 29-31 in Seattle, Washington! With an impressive Sword Art Online guest list, Crunchyroll will be there to join in on the festivities!
