Shannon and Dave Maternity Portraits

Kim and I met up with my good friends Shannon and Dave (the first wedding I photographed on my own) this past weekend to finally take some maternity portraits. We had this scheduled a few times and the ridiculous amounts of snow in the area forced us to cancel our previous attempts. That turned out to be a blessing since we were still able to go out and shoot in the snow at Batsto Village and it was one of the warmest days in weeks. We started out at their house and took a few shots of the new baby’s room which Dave and Shannon created. They own their own construction company and specialize in high end trim work which was noticeable by the amazingly detailed room. We took a few more portraits around the house in different rooms and then we hung out for little while waiting for the light to get better.

After catching up for a bit we all headed over to Batsto Village just outside Hammonton, NJ. It was a perfect day for photography there, warm, sunny, and snowy. Shannon had the idea for the picture with the umbrella which I really dig. We walked around a bit and just worked at a few different locations all while enjoying the gorgeous light that afternoon. Kim and I had a great time photographing them and we’re looking forward to the baby coming and more photos to be taken then.

Erin & Mike’s Winter Wedding at the Savoy Inn

Finally getting around to posting my friends Erin and Mike’s wedding. It was a cold, but beautiful day in January and we had a great time photographing their wedding. Erin’s family was so inviting and fun and of course it was great to be a part of a high school friend’s (Mike) wedding. We had plenty of time after the ceremony at the gorgeous Sacred Heart church in Vineland, NJ for pictures. It was perfect evening light and we got a chance to stop at a local park and take a few quick (it was freezing) pictures there which are some of my favorite. Then we were off to the Savoy Inn just down the road a bit again in Vineland. It looked amazing at the inn and we got a great shot of the couple on the dance floor before all the guests arrived. Thanks again to Erin and Mike for asking us to be their photographers.

I’ve been working hard on some new updates to the site and catching up on my editing from a wedding last weekend. It’s surprisingly busy for this time of year and I’ll be away on a vacation to Florida to visit the family this coming week. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new so I wanted to give you guys something to check out before everybody forgets about me. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of nature photography as well and I’ve also been working hard getting up-and-running my nature website and helping all the photographers over there get going too. If you’ve got a minute check it out at www.naturesdomain.us – there is some great photography over there and some really pretty pictures to look at. I’ll be jamming when I get back from FL and trying to get some new images on the blog so keep an eye out.

Crushed Box Photography was also just given a “Bride’s Choice” award from Wedding Wire which apparently means I was in the top %5 over on their site. That’s really exciting and they should be promoting all the winners on their website soon. That’s pretty much it for the winter update, be back soon.

How Crushed Box Photography Got it’s Name

If I haven’t told the story yet, when trying to come up with the name for my business, Kim and I were coming up with ideas and she said something about “think outside the box” to which I responded “I hate that saying, it’s so overused and doesn’t really mean anything”. After this we started saying “throw the box”, “smash the box”, “&$!% the box”, and Kim said “crush the box”. Well, I really liked the sound of that and it morphed into Crushed Box Photography. It has no deep or hidden meaning, it pretty much came to be from my disdain of the saying “think outside the box”. I just found this video below that pretty much sums up my feelings about that saying and I thought I would share it here.

Cherie & Karl’s Wedding at Washington Crossing Inn

When I first met Cherie she was concerned that having her wedding in November and an outdoor ceremony may be the ingredients for a few frozen guests. On the wedding day of Cherie & Karl the weather could not have been more perfect, the sun was shining and the temperature was cool but not cold, it was a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Washington Crossing Inn. After the ceremony Kim and I had a chance to take some of the portraits of the bride and groom in gorgeous sunlight right before sunset, then we all headed inside for the reception which was also held at the Inn. We had just as much fun at the wedding as we did at the engagement shoot with these two. Cherie & Karl are nonstop entertainment, they are always having fun and keep themselves and everyone around them laughing which is one thing I always love about a couple. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day, I hope you enjoy.

Erin & Mike – Batsto Village Engagement

Mike is a good friend from high school and when I heard he was going to marry Erin I was hoping I’d get to photograph their wedding. Well, I was lucky enough to have them choose Kim and I to be their photographers on the wedding day and on an unusually warm and perfectly sunny day this past October we all went to Batsto Village to have some fun and take some engagement pictures. They are a great couple and you can see how much fun they have together, it’s always good to see a friend happy. I’m really looking forward to the wedding coming up this January, I know it’s going to be a blast. Now onto a few of my favorite shots from the day.

Cherie & Karl – Princeton Hotel Engagement

Cherie & Karl were a riot from the moment we met them at the Hyatt in Princeton NJ. The original plan was to have the shoot outside, but the weather was not too cooperative so we had to switch things up a bit. We came up with the idea to try meeting in a nice hotel lobby and Cherie suggest the Hyatt. It was a perfect choice, the place was great with a lot of different locations and the light was great and best of all we didn’t get kicked out! As Kim and I photographed these two, they kept us laughing our asses off. Karl is certainly a character and I could tell the two of them have a lot of fun together. I know the wedding is going to be a blast. On to the pics.

Christina & Jeff’s Wedding for KGM Expressions at Smithville Inn

Who knew work could be so much FUN. I was the second photographer at Christina and Jeff’s wedding for KGM Expressions and it rocked. We had so much fun all day and everybody was so cool to be around. I met up with the guys before the ceremony while Kim was photographing the bride and the girls getting ready at Seaview Country Club in Galloway, NJ. The groom and groomsmen were all chill and having a good time while getting ready so we had a lot of fun. Then I left the guys to meet up with Kim and the girls before we all went over to the ceremony. The Smithville Inn is such a beautiful place to have a wedding, there are tons of great places to take pictures and they decorated the room perfectly. The reception was a blast and I was having so much fun taking pictures on the dance floor, the DJ actually announced that “Ray, I think your having to much fun out there” to which everybody cheered, OK I was probably dancing a bit too much myself but hey it was a great crowd. Megan & Chris – Long Beach Island Engagement

Kim and I met Megan and Chris on Long Beach Island and just drove around and stopped at a few places for their engagement shoot. We ended up at Barnegat Lighthouse for the end of the session and we took a few pictures as the sun was setting. It wasn’t a perfectly clear day but the sun was nicely filtered through the thin whispy clouds. It was a really nice day out and we had a great time with the two of them. We will be traveling up to Wappingers Falls NY (which I hear is beautiful) for the wedding next October and I’m really looking forward to it.
