Custom WordPress theme for Shannon Munford at DayBreakServices.com. Shannon has been one of our loyal maintenance clients since 2003, and it’s been great that we’ve been able to help him update his site to WordPress software. He had a previous WordPress blog, but was just waiting for the right time to convert his HTML website to WordPress.

In doing so, we were able to add a new “Ask Shannon” questionnaire option to his website so that he can answer questions for clients, and visitors. We also added an SEO Event Calendar and links to all of his YouTube videos.
We also linked into his existing client registration system so that all of the employees were still able to enter client registrations quickly and efficiently online.

It’s the new year, and one of the most important things that we can stress is the importance of backing up your WordPress website.
Most often, website owners rely on their website hosts for backups – hoping that they’ll be able to quickly restore their website.
And that’s not the best case scenario.
Wouldn’t you rather have a backup of your own so that you won’t have to wait for your web host to restore the backup for you?

Which WordPress Backup Plugins are best?

Well, it depends. How important is your website to you?

Since “the cloud” has taken the world by storm, there are quite a few remote backup services.

• myRepono WordPress Backup Plugin
• Online Backup for WordPress

But if you’d prefer a non-third party service, and would rather use your own web directory or receive a backup  of your website by email, we’ve tried and recommend the following:

• WP-DB-Backup
• XCloner  
• BackUpWordPress

How often should you backup?

You should have your website run a backup about once a week. Anything can happen, and it’d be better if you at least had the last week’s backup so that you’re not forced to revert back to your web host’s last recorded backup. A few web hosts have daily backups, but we discovered last year that most web hosts do not keep daily backups.

Now, those are just a few of the backup plugins available. Depending on the service that we’re providing, we actually install WP-DB-Backup to run a database backup of the site that we’re working on before making any changes. We use BackUpWordPress for more extensive services where we’ll be altering or moving files and/or images.

But it’s important to make a backup of your website, whether you’re using WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal.

Start 2012 off as a winner, and install a backup plugin!

It will save you headaches in the long-run.

We converted a PSD to WordPress.

This project was particularly interesting as only a few of us know bits and pieces of the French language.
But it turned out great and we’re really proud of the work that we did on this.
Our plan is to provide a language switch that will allow visitors to switch from English to French in the future.

We were contracted by our maintenance client, PracticalMum, to create a custom BuddyPress theme. Shelagh was interested in providing more product reviews, tips, and information for moms. We were able to setup the custom BuddyPress theme with all of the cool features and user views.

We created a Custom WordPress theme to give Lane Aviation more control over their content. And a static HTML website wasn’t allowing them to change their content on the fly without contacting their web developer. So, we converted their website to WordPress. They were able to keep their current design, and were able to obtain some cool jQuery slider features in the process.
