Educating Communities for Parenting, Pew, Mendelssohn Club, & CAEL

As we plow along into February, we find ourselves with full weeks of filming, editing, and graphic design, but yet more in front of us than behind. This past week and the week ahead mostly focus on local arts, culture, education, and other important non-profit causes, which make up a core component of our client work.

For starters, Crystalline Studios is very excited to be working on a new project with Educating Communities for Parenting, a group that offers a variety of programs and services for children, youth, and teen parents in the Philadelphia area. We will be working with ECP to create a script, conduct interviews, and build an overview video using footage gathered during these sessions combined with pre-existing stills, to screen at an upcoming event in May. The goal? Help ECP raise awareness for their cause and contribute to future fundraising efforts with a clear and concise pitch. We also expect the video to help ECP expand their presence in the world of social media, and will be assisting in the optimization of the video for web, as well as the posting of the video to ECP’s website and YouTube pages.

In addition, Crystalline’s video work with Weston Sound continues in the world of music and arts. This past week, we documented a fascinating panel as a part of the Philadelphia Music Project held by our friends at the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. The panel’s subject: Curating a Great Music Festival, featuring panelists who have curated festivals big and small, including Ashley Capps of Bonnaroo. Crystalline and Weston documented the event with three cameras, and will be cutting them together into a comprehensive video of the event for Pew’s archives so they can continute to present such innovative programming in years to come.

Continuing our non-profit work, Crystalline’s editing suite hosted our third voice-over recording session with Dorothy Wax of The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). Dorothy has been recording audio for training sessions which teach effective career counseling. This week was our third session with Dorothy out in our offices in Norristown, PA, and we covered Module 3 out of 5 – approximately 15 pages – in a mere hour and a half session. (Of course it helps that Dorothy’s prior life was in the world of radio.) Post-session, some minor tweaks and edits were performed, and then the files were sent digitally to CAEL before Dorothy even made it home from our session.

This coming week, Crystalline (again, in conjunction with Weston Sound) will be conducting a video interview with Andrea Clearfield, composer of music for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, dance, and multimedia collaborations. The interview, which will be edited together with footage, stills, and audio Ms. Clearfield has gathered in Nepal, serves as a part of a larger promotional effort on the part of The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia to promote their unique upcoming concert “Rituals: East/West“.

CleanItSupply.com shoots new commercials with Crystalline

Crystalline completed a series of videos over the summer for fellow Norristown-PA-based business CleanItSupply.com. CleanItSupply’s own Dan Dillon took the lead role and we filmed a number of commercials – all one-take with no cutaways – in their offices and warehouse. CleanItSupply specializes in cleaning supplies for home and businesses, and they pride themselves on their quality customer service and on not inflating the cost of their products to hide the cost of shipping.

Presenting Sensonics Smell Identification Tests

Remember our casting call a couple of months ago? Well, the video is in the bag! (Actually, it was in the bag over a month ago, but we forgot to post it to this blog, so we figured we’d rectify that now.) We hit the client’s deadline for presenting the video at a meeting, and we hear the final video helped Sensonics take a few different products to the attention of the U.S. Defense Department.

According to Paul Marone, Sensonics’ Marketing Director: “Hey guys, my boss loved the movie again. It actually worked out so that we have a few different ways to try to market and sell. This was a really good meeting.”

New video: APGA 2011

Our friends at Longwood got in touch last month to request a video promoting the 2011 American Public Gardens Assocation Conference, scheduled for Philadelphia in 2011. It’s always great to work with clients that know exactly what they want. In this case, they sent us several examples of videos they liked, with preferred shooting locations and days, and a list of things they’ve love to see in the final edit.

Crystalline delivered, and the final video included two days of shooting – one at Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill and one at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square – and some quick editing to put together a cute, engaging video and hype people up for the 2011 Conference!

The clients were wildly pleased. In the words of our contact, upon showing the video to the rest of the APGA decision-makers: “Quite frankly, I am getting tired of hearing the following: ‘It’s great, excellent work, better than the [example] video, perfect, love it, awesome, does exactly what we wanted, etc, etc. ‘ Thanks again to you all for the phenomenal job.”

Casting Call: Commercial Shoot

Philadelphia-Area Actors needed for NON-UNION commercial pharma shoot aimed at military audience. 1 day shoot. PAYING gig to shoot in Philly/NJ area 1 day between March 23rd-26th (TBA).
NEEDED: Males/females 18-25ish, in good shape, to play new army recruits. Male or female 25-40 to play army veteran. 40-55 Male to play army administrator. Ownership of military fatigues a plus, especially for veteran/trainer parts.

Project completed for Global Holdings

I think we made a new friend this week, and at the same time got to cut together footage of our childhood heroes.

Crystalline was contacted on Tuesday by a new client called Global Holdings. Turns out they had a convention in Manhattan on Saturday at which they were to showcase their retail merchandise for franchises like Nintendo, Twilight, and the new Alice in Wonderland.

They had all the assets, video and stills, and simply needed some post-production to help create a flashy display for their booth at the convention. Having done this sort of work for pharma companies and non-profits alike, we were happy to oblige.

I have to say, it’s nice to have clients who are web-saavy. In what may have been the quickest turnaround in recent memory, Crystalline received links to all the assets online on Wednesday and Thursday, downloaded, edited, added motion, music, titles and effects, rendered, and had a final file back up on the client’s site by Friday evening at 8:00pm.

We’d show the video here (I know that’s been the trend), but some of the assets are licensed from other companies for in-house display only, so a lot of it is not allowed for third-party web use or public consumption. Shame, ’cause we love us some Mario.

Anyway, Global Holdings had no revisions to request. So they are now the proud owners of a shiny 16:9, high-res video to help show off their latest wares at the convention today. As for us, the video left us wanting a plush Koopa Troopa or a 5″ Shy Guy to call our own.

Oh well. Another job done, another happy client. All in a day’s work for Crystalline.

Time to start the weekend off right: with some Mario Kart.

Sinatti Pop production tag complete

Just completed: A new production tag (animated logo) for up-and-coming music sensation Sinatti Pop. Sinatti provided us his wonderful still and asked us to give it some motion and life in the style of our own Crystalline intro tag. And of course, mix in some music, FX, etc. as appropriate.

Because of Sinatti’s unique musical style, we decided to fill his logo with the energy and excitement of the club scene, and used Sinatti’s upcoming track “Kiss the Sky” for the audio baseline. We were once again reminded how great it is to collaborate with fellow artists, when Sinatti (himself a music producer) gave us an instrumental-only mix of his track to even better effect.

You be the judge!

As an added bonus, we are also providing layers of files, giving the option for the client to alpha matte something into the clip’s opening. So that instead of fading from black or crossfading as the default, Sinatti’s people can simply explode video of their choice straight into the logo, adding an extra layer of production values.

Pull My Focus

New video uploaded to our YouTube! Our animation department created this a couple of years back for Pull My Focus Productions, but just found it in the vault and decided to show off our animation a little. In this case, the client asked for a chalk-style animation for their production tag.

This animation appears before the film “Flogging Margaret,” released through Warner Bros. Worldwide Home Video. Crystalline also did all the DVD artwork for this release.
