Announcing our Crystal Square Pool Party taking place on Thursday, May 31st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our spectacular Olympic-sized community swimming pool. Learn how to become a better you at our Wellness Expo.

Now that the summer is nearly here and shorts and sandals weather is upon us, why not learn more about the ways that you can look and feel better? We would like to announce our 2nd Annual Wellness Expo taking place on the rooftop of our Crystal Square apartment community on May 10th from 5-7 p.m.

At this fun event there will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn more about health, wellness and fitness information and services in our local community. This event is sponsored in part by Crystal Square, Sport&Health, Jordin’s Paradise, Gano Cafe and L.A. Fitness.

Unique, creamy frozen custard.

Crystal Square residents in Arlington, VA, enjoy many unique restaurants and attractions. When the warmer weather inspires them to seek out some cold, delicious ice cream they find their way to The Dairy Godmother two miles away on Mount Vernon Avenue.

Every day The Dairy Godmother makes fresh, frozen custard on site including the standard vanilla and chocolate. Then they prepare a special flavor of day. A few of these flavors include carrot cake, blueberry cheesecake and the unique Breakfast in Bed. Breakfast in Bed celebrates Mother’s Day with maple custard, waffle cone pieces and bacon bits.

First Thursdays

Beginning in May vendors and events will be out on Mount Vernon Avenue on the first Thursday of each month. Each “First Thursday” features live music, stores stay open late and plenty of family-friendly entertainment. Visit the Del Ray Business Association for details.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with Martha Washington.

Looking for something a little different from the usual Mother’s Day flowers, card and Sunday Brunch routine? You can join the “Mother of Our Country” at Mount Vernon. This jewel of American history is less than 13 miles from your Crystal Square high-rise apartment.

This special day at Mount Vernon features Martha Washington, and her granddaughter “Nelly,” as they celebrate with visitors. Enjoy “Lady Washington’s” reminiscences of motherhood and her sage advice to her youngest granddaughter.

Martha Washington will hand out lavender sachets of her own recipe for mothers (while supplies last).

Take the “Dinner for the Washingtons” walking tour

Make the most of your trip to Mount Vernon by taking the new walking tour available through next fall. The tour takes you on a journey to learn how food was prepared and served without the modern conveniences we enjoy today. The one-hour walking tour showcases food, hospitality and dining at Washington’s home by exploring the different locations around the estate, including the basement.

The tour concludes at Mount Vernon’s greenhouse with a special tasting. The tour is only $5.

Team volunteer opportunities

“Strength in numbers” rings true for success in almost every charitable endeavor.  Before you venture out to volunteer, grab some friends from the high-rise at Crystal Square or some of your co-workers.

Food pantries like the Arlington Food Assistance Center depend on large groups, to repackage and distribute food to 1,300 families each week. Bring your team on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings to help distribute groceries to clients.

If you and your crew like to “organize” things, give the Columbia Pike Library a call. They are shifting their collection around to make more efficient use of their space. The library is located at 816 Walter Reed Drive and on Sunday, April 29, they need volunteers to help move items and make everything easier for visitors to find. Register to help here.

A visit to Sur La Table will teach such things as the Secrets of a Pastry Chef, Knife Essentials and how to prepare a Brazilian Steak Feast. Northside Social--3211 Wilson Blvd Arlington VA

For years, Liberty Tavern, Lyon Hall and Northside Social have been bringing most of the Arlington crowd. For whatever reason you step outside the Crystal City neighborhood, whether after-work happy hours or weekend shopping dates, the 3 establishments have held loyal to their customers.

This year  (and month to be exact) if you have or haven’t been, now is the time to do so. All 3 of the bars are celebrating their anniversaries–Liberty Tavern being the oldest (being open in 2007). Both Lyon Hall and Northside Social bring a fresher concept to the city and it seems to be working with their one year success, also being celebrated this month.

Crystal Square residents should see what the heart of Arlington has to offer–these 3 restaurants to be exact. With just a ride up Jefferson Davis Highway, you’re only minutes from the customer appreciation and deals you may be looking for!

Spring and Bikini season are on the merge, so make sure you have a pair in tow wherever there’s sun (you never know when you’ll need it)! Luckily, our apartment community is conveniently located in the Crystal City area, close to Arlington’s shops and boutiques. Here’s where you can grab a piece (or two)!
