I think the power of poetry is underestimated. The words that sing in our ears and stick in our memories tend to have a poetic component to them. This really hit home for me when we were discussing bible translations in one of my history classes and we were comparing the King James version with a couple of the modern translations. The King James bible was so much more powerful. When I tried to put my finger on it I decided that it was the musicality and descriptive power of the language. I found out that the majority of the bible was translated by a single person (William Tyndale, I believe). I don't think he was a poet but he had a way of phrasing verses that jumped off the page.

I love your starting quote (poem = story minus journalism). I have always been baffled by poetry and don't really sense what is "good" poetry vs. "bad" poetry. Or even why some writings are called poetry.. like your note to the milkman plus line breaks :-)

One of the most interesting poems that we covered in lit class was only 4 lines long... and yet we were able to spend nearly the whole class talking about all the meanings and imagery imbedded in those four lines. That was some serious word economy!

Actually this launch re-invigorates American space exploration. By offloading the near orbit role to private firms, this will free up NASA for deep space exploration like a return to the moon, travel to asteroids, the moons of Mars, Mars itself, and maybe even the moons of Jupiter. Plus NASA can strengthen focus on their amazing robotic exploration. Astronauts are astronauts whether the ride in Dragon or Orion. The dream lives!

Not sure how this happened cause it's my understanding that Denver has a really great EMS system. Also, the more numerous fire departments almost always arrive before the Denver Health paramedics and the fire department would typically provide care until the paramedics take over and transport.

Krugman weighs in.

But how could they make such a stupid mistake? I think there’s a process going on here, in which wealth and power creates a bubble in which people are so eager to please the paymasters that they lose any sense of what it sounds like to those not already answering to the same paymasters.

Ouch.

I know some zombie purists exclude the 28 Days films from the zombie canon for the reason you point out, but as Matt Mogk says in his definitive book, "If the infected maniac lumbering down the street looks like a zombie, bites like a zombie, and is contagious like a zombie, then for all intents and purposes, it's zombie enough for most. At this point, thanks to Boyle's blockbuster innovation, living zombies are firmly ensconced in the zombie film subgenre." (pg. 23) That's good enough for me.

Hope you enjoy The Dead. It was a fantastically crafted film!

28 Days Later is a good film but it's not a zombie film. The things that are chasing people are infected with a disease, not reanimated dead people.

The Dead sounds good though, thanks for highlighting it!

Smith is a snake. He sponsored the FIRST NDAA bill into the house, and voted for it. He knew it would not be amended. He clearly got early word of Forrest's decision. He knew the amendment wouldn't pass, it was a campaign stunt. Smith is on the Arms Committee, a filthy shill for the military industrial complex killing machine. Everybody reading this should see congressmanadamsmith.com. Somebody did a knockout job mocking up what Smith really is. He better not be re-elected, nor most of the other incumbents.
People need to start informing others OFFline. Make a note with the following 'See free online movie 'Loose Change Final Cut'. Visit projectcensored.org, and endthelie.org and also see free online movie 'what in the world are they spraying' and website aircrap.org. Mention we now have 30,000 drones coming to our skies, and the ndaa bill citizen detention. Make copies to hand friends/stranger, and put on neighbor mailboxes. Tell 20 people to tell 20 more. Don't depend on others to do it, you do it or we're all in big trouble.
