We were updating some of our filtering tools for SPAM, and we forgot to activate the service on the server. We just realized now after seeing no submissions coming to our inbox in the last 48hours (oh yes, we have been on a business trip and didnt check the mails til now).

It is 21:00PM (GMT+1 - 27th/July/2009) in here, and the server is processing e-mails since a minute ago. So, if you have submitted your site betwwen 25th/July/2009 21:00PM (GMT+1) and the 27th..... you'll have to resubmit it.

Sorry for the problems this may have caused you... but that's the way it is.

The benefits are for example that it does not cost anything and the designers are able to tweak the themes via the CSS.

There are however a couple of mistakes that many web design companies tend to make. We are going to leave all of the brainstorming of the design itself to you but we thought that it would be a good idea to mention three commonly made mistakes so that you will not make them yourself.

Bandwidth gets overused

Even though you probably design the website on stabile web hosting you should be careful with using too much of the bandwidth. This is especially important if you know that you are going to set up a site with heavy graphics. Visitors, with lousy Internet connection, coming to the site will most likely leave within a matter of seconds if this is the case.

Awful navigation

The navigation is probably one of the most, if not THE most, important issue when designing a website. Should the menus be set up horizontal or vertical? Think about the users and the current trends and arrange this via the CSS. Make sure that the site is not too cluttered with links and images. The site should be as user-friendly as possible.

Too complex graphics

As already mentioned should the website be as user-friendly as possible and using way too many complex graphics is the opposite. Sure, things such as Flash can be pretty cool to use on a website but remember that it will not be indexed by the search engines and some visitors might have to download a plugin, possibly making them click out. If you are using Flash, make sure that you have written the exact same content as a “readable” file as well.

So, to sum up: design the web design with the visitors in mind and make sure that you are not trying to squeeze out too much from your web hosting. People visiting your websites want a fast and easy understandable experience.
