Like A Magnet

The youth who attended the Florida Baha’i summer school, with the help of superstar Andy Grammer, created an original song centered around this quote:

“Faith is the magnet which draws the confirmation of the Merciful One. Service is the magnet which attracts the heavenly strength.” – ‘Abdu’l-Baha

The challenge was to create the whole thing from start to finish in 25 minutes(!)

Get on it now and sing your heart out! Onemusician.org brings you Baha’i music on crack featuring guitar tabs and song sheets along with the lyrics. The website is new and live as of today, and while there seem to be some details to work out, it’s hot!

For instance, search for “Dawnbreaker Collective” and have all their lyrics brought right to your screen.

We encourage young musicians and artists to get in touch with those guys and help them bring more music to the website. Guitar tabs and song sheets are always of preference.

Changing Times 2009

The Changing Times team is pleased to inform you that the venue for the 2009 Changing Times conference will be the fantastic Hotel Antares in Verona, Italy. You can find out more about the venue here.

Also we can now confirm the following will be among the presenters at this year’s conference:

Mr Siamak Hariri, the award-winning architect of the Bahá’í House of Worship for Santiago, Chile which is currently under fabrication.

Dr Albert Lincoln, Secretary-General of the Bahá’í International Community.

Mrs Joan Lincoln, pictured, member of the International Teaching Centre.

Ms Clare O’Brien, Oxford-based PhD candidate in Medical Sciences and football.

Dr Steven Phelps, Research Department of the Bahá’í World Centre where he has been translating the holy scriptures of the Bahá’í Faith. He is the author of several articles exploring science and religion and responding to the claims of the new atheists.

As you may know Changing Times is a non-for-profit event managed by individuals with very limited resources. Over the years we’ve had the support of an ever-expanding group of friends and volunteers who year after year help us make Changing Times happen.

Of course money is also an issue and that is why we would appreciate it if people considered supporting Changing Times financially. With your donations, we could, for example, sponsor individuals to participate at the conference who without financial assistance would be unable to attend.

Today is Baha’i Rights Day

The Baha’is in Iran and Egypt face ongoing persecution in form of human rights abuses and denial of basic civil rights. Their homes are raided and burned, their businesses closed, their children and youth denied education, their members arrested and killed.

March 18 Movement

The following is an example of fantastic use of new media in bringing attention to a cause.

The March 18 Movement was born out of a tragedy. On this day in 2009, Omid Reza Mir Sayafi, Iranian blogger and journalist, died in Evin Prison in Tehran. The December before his death, he was sentenced to two and half years in prison for allegedly insulting religious leaders, and engaging in propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Omid Reza was the first blogger to die in prison and his death reveals that getting censored is far from the worst thing that can happen to a blogger.
