The Program: The Center for Inclusive Excellence recognizes the value of a diverse and vibrant community in supporting an intellectually engaging and inclusive educational environment. To this end, The Center for Inclusive Excellence has created the Center for Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellowship Program to support faculty who are committed or show promise of using inclusion and diversity as a resource for enriching and providing a well-rounded education for all students at SIU.

Awards and Eligibility: The Center for Inclusive Excellence in collaboration with the Center for Teaching Excellence will award up to two fellowships in 2013. Each fellowship comes with a $750 OTS award. Awards will be given to Faculty with demonstrated interests in Inclusive Excellence pedagogy and research. Appointments are for one year and will begin September 2013 and end August 2014. Awards are renewable for a second year depending upon demonstration of academic achievement, public service, research or ability to articulate the mission and goals of the Center for Inclusive Excellence.

Fellows will serve as a guest lecturer for Center for Inclusive Excellence/UCOL sections, participate in 1 or 2 Center for Inclusive Excellence faculty/staff/student professional development programs and events.

• Statement of research and goals (where applicable)
• Personal statement defining the reasons for applying
• 3 letters of reference

Lecture capture allows teachers to provide a near-classroom experience for students who miss a class or for students taking classes at a distance. This technology records lectures in a way that synchronizes voice, computer screen and webcam into seamless multimedia presentations that can be viewed on the web.

Lecture capture creates highly effective study guides and tutorials. Students can use it to submit assignments; professors can use it to correct them. The system is easy to use and has editing and captioning capability. Join us and discover the ins and outs of Panopto lecture capture at SIUC. You will even be able to create an account of your own and begin recording immediately.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use Turnitin, the plagiarism detection feature integrated into SIU Online. Topics include activating plagiarism detection, reviewing originality reports, grading assignments with GradeMark, and leaving feedback for students.

The U-Pace instructional approach uses your course management system to tailor the coaching of student learning based on students strengths and motivations.  Funded through the Next Generation Learning Challenge and the U.S. Department of Education, U-Pace has documented remarkable results including increased student success and improved student confidence.

ABOUT THE TRAINING:

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use the Quizzes, Surveys and Self Assessments tools in SIU Online. Topics include building a question library, customizing settings, and managing assessments. Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions for use in one of their current courses, but a practice course will be available for those who prefer not to use an existing one.

ABOUT THE TRAINING:

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about the Grades tool in SIU Online powered by Desire2Learn. Topics include setting up your grade book, linking scores to assignments and quizzes, and calculating grades.  This is an opportunity for participants to set up the grade book in their current courses.  If you prefer to work in a practice course, one will be provided for you.

ABOUT THE TRAINING:

Respondus is a powerful tool that enables instructors to create and manage quizzes offline, then publish them directly to Desire2Learn.  In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to correctly format assessment questions for import via Respondus; how to create, preview, and modify a quiz; and how to publish a quiz to Desire2Learn.

Participants will be using their own test questions and working with their existing courses.  Please bring a USB flash drive that contains questions in either Microsoft Word or text file format.
