sector colleagues at the 2011 edition of TIAC’s Annual Conference.

TIAC’s annual conference returns to the Fairmont Chateau
Laurier in the National Capital Region November 22-24, 2011, bringing
the tourism industry right to the heart of government activity in
Canada.

By returning to the nation’s capital, the event will bring the tourism
sector from across the country to the doorstep of our elected
officials and decision-makers at the departments and agencies that
impact on the industry. At the 2010 event more than 15 Members of
Parliament attended either the Congress or the Canadian Tourism Awards
gala. This level of engagement allowed us to show MPs first-hand some
of the economic and social benefits of travel and tourism, both from a
national perspective as well as on the local level.

Climate
change, infectious diseases, economic crises, terrorism, globalisation,
and entrenched social problems pose threats and create an uncertain
tourism environment that affects destinations and their populations in
virtually every corner of the contemporary world. To keep pace with
these challenges, governments, businesses, communities, and tourism
organisations need to continuously assess environmental factors, to
identify future trends and to examine various response policies and
management techniques to decrease risk and uncertainty

This
ICSTDTM 2011 international conference will embrace significant
sub-themes relating to Sustainable Tourism Development , Tourism
Marketing and Opportunities of Toursim in Global . The conference will
bring together scholars, professionals and practitioners from various
disciplines and countries and provide them with a unique forum for
sharing the latest theories and practices.

The conference
program proudly features accomplished experts from around the world that
will exchange views on the latest industry buzz topics ranging from
economic sustainability, hotel design, culture and media to technology,
branding concepts and conference tourism.

The current
economics issues have highlighted the importance of sustainability and
heralds the end of the system on which modern society has been organised
in the past. It also indicates the dawn of a new era with a more
natural use of materials and energy. The scenario is set for a different
type of society, one in which these conditions converge; planning and
occupation of space; the material and cultural landscape being
considered as resources and a suitable amount of leisure time becoming
available.

The landscape is to be enjoyed is both the natural
and cultural one. There are natural landscapes in the world which will
require a higher degree of protection. Biodiversity should be cherished
and the object of our constant attention. The cultural landscape will
blend with this vision creating a process for constant education and
knowledge production.

2011 Travel and Tourism Research Association International Conference: Developing a Global Tourism Research Agenda for the Second Decade of the New Millenium

Come and join fellow researchers, industry practitioners and academics as they meet and discuss topics that bridge the gap between academics and practitioners.

Peter Williams of Simon Fraser University and a team of some of the best and brightest TTRA Members will use state of the art technology and 'game time' audience participation to identify a global agenda of priority themes and hot topics for tourism research needed by decision makers in the second decade of the new millennium. Peter and his team will walk attendees through the appropriate steps to creating a research agenda that is both robust and realistic for all. Perspectives of academic, government, non-government, and priviate sector tourism stakeholders will be used to help shape the discussion leading up to the session's dialogue and research priority setting agenda.

More speakers and sessions are currently being finalized, including more than 60 academic paper presentations and a new full-day Student Symposium before the conference.

Register online at www.ttra.com or call 1-248-708-TTRA, Email: ttra@ttra.com.

Canadian hotels are facing a dynamic, challenging but potentially rewarding environment. With more than 3,500 hotels offering in excess of 325,000 rooms and generating some $11 billion in revenue, Canadian hotels form an integral part of the national tourism industry. Yet at times, the industry seems under siege as a result of human resource constraints, declining American visitation, inconsistent marketing support and a host of local issues.

From its inception, the Hotel Association of Canada Annual Conference provides an opportunity for those involved in the operation of Canadian lodging enterprises, and their suppliers, to gain timely insights into industry trends and current practices. This Conference provides a vehicle for delegates to benefit from in-depth, interactive sessions that are uniquely Canadian.

Learn how to succeed in a changing environment.

After years of increasing demographic pressures, many organizations are now facing the retirement of seasoned leaders who have essential skills, experience, and wisdom. Their potential replacements are either too few in number or aren’t yet ready for their new roles.

Add new financial constraints and potential hiring and salary freezes to this equation, and you and your team will be challenged to achieve objectives.

 Refocus, rethink, renew.

It’s time to refocus on the HR elements that deliver value, and examine how to excel with even fewer resources. It’s also time to reassess key processes and determine if they’re up to the task.

Learn from other public sector HR leaders how they’ve succeeded in managing recruitment, multiple generations in the workplace, talent and leadership development, knowledge management, and succession planning.

 Improve workforce effectiveness and performance.

Last year we featured The Conference Board of Canada’s groundbreaking research into the workplace of the future, discussing major global trends that were changing work and how governments needed to respond.

This year we’ll focus on the information and insights you need now to improve workforce effectiveness and performance. Discussion will include how to:

recruit and retain talent to meet future needs

develop the next generation of public sector leaders

apply knowledge management discipline to retain the expertise of retirees

engage younger workers so they build their careers in the public sector

turn diversity into a driver of performance

address the challenges of a maturing workforce

manage and lead change

build a flexible organizational culture that can thrive amid change

create a succession plan that works in the real world

communicate more effectively with your workforce

 Conference Overview

Optimize the benefits of your workforce’s diversity.

As economic conditions improve, labour markets will tighten and competition will intensify. Diversity and inclusiveness can position your organization to attract and keep the best talent available and make the best use of that talent to innovate, connect with new markets, and drive organizational performance. This event will help you turn your organization’s diversity into a competitive advantage.

Capitalize on the energy and talent of each individual in your organization.

You’ll hear from diversity and inclusiveness thought leaders who have gone beyond the basics to drive the value and scope of their programs. Case studies and interactive peer-to-peer sessions will provide you with the best practices and new thinking you need to advance your organization’s diversity initiatives.

We’ll also expand the diversity landscape with questions about faith, age, and diversity of thought, and we’ll provide opportunities to discuss your most pressing challenges with the experts.

Learn about new immigrants and innovation from original Conference Board research.

The Conference Board of Canada is renowned for its research into how organizations can optimize workforce performance. The Board’s Leaders’ Roundtable on New Immigrants conducted a study into the value of new immigrants as innovators. The results of this research and the experts’ insights will help you integrate new immigrants and identify and capitalize on their talents, skills, and experience.

Meet leading practitioners and benefit from their forward thinking.

Each presenter will share their informed perspective and personal experiences, including:

* their greatest diversity challenge and how they overcame it
* what’s next for diversity and inclusiveness in their organization
* how diversity improved the performance of their organization
* diversity’s contribution to innovation
* how to make a compelling case for diversity to senior leadership

Take advantage of this opportunity to meet your peers, benchmark your diversity efforts, and discuss practical solutions to common diversity and inclusiveness challenges.
