2011 Travel and Tourism Research Association International Conference: Developing a Global Tourism Research Agenda for the Second Decade of the New Millenium

Steve Gillick CTM , CITC’s President noted that “CITC receives many contacts from high school students, university graduates, people dissatisfied with their current job, people looking to retire and start a second career. ‘We thought it would serve both the interests of the consumer and the travel industry to offer coaching sessions on ‘How to get into the travel industry’. As the non-profit educational trade association, CITC has no ‘agenda’ other than to promote the benefits of working in travel and build a talent base for the industry”.

Gillick continued to suggest that many people think that internet travel providers and the availability of apps will continually erode the need for enthusiastic, motivated, career-minded travel professionals, but just the opposite is occurring. Tech-savvy consumers tend to research on the internet and then, with their time and money at a premium, they seek the assistance of a travel professional to purchase travel

Gillick said that there are many job openings in the travel industry and a ton of opportunities open for those who want to get paid for something they love to do. “There is an expression” Gillick relayed, that says

A division of Solar Academy International (SAI), Ontario Solar Academy offers training courses based on NABCEP learning objectives to quickly advance expertise in Solar PV (Photovoltaic) design and installation.

Ontario Solar Academy’s NABCEP-certified instructors are experienced, solar professionals with extensive backgrounds in career-focused education. The 5-Day PV Design & Installation Training includes hands-on workshops that prepare participants for the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam.

Ontario Solar Academy's 5-Day Solar PV Design and Installation Course (Level One) covers fundamental knowledge and reviews the design, installation, and evaluation of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The solar training, based on the NABCEP learning objectives, includes site evaluation tools and techniques, solar electric component operation and connection, system design and sizing, and standard requirements and practices. This special Ontario Solar Academy course guides students from system fundamentals to advanced mechanical and electrical concepts in accordance with Electrical Code requirements in Ontario. Passing a final exam qualifies students for Solar Academy's "Solar Professional Certificate: Level One."

The lead instructor is PV Industry expert Sean White. Sean is a highly experienced PV educator, having taught at several training centers on the West and East Coasts of the USA. Hundreds of his students are employed at both startup and leading solar companies. Sean also designs commercial and residential PV systems in San Francisco Bay Area.

Sean has many years of practical work experience at Fidelity Roof and Local Power in California. He is NABCEP Certified in PV System Design & Installation 2009 and a licensed c-46 solar contractor in California. He finds great satisfaction in sharing his knowledge of PV with his students. UNWTO and the government of the principality of Andorra have agreed to organize a leading global tourism forum during the first quarter of 2011.

The announcement was made jointly by UNWTO secretary-general, Taleb Rifai, and the minister of economy and finance of Andorra, Pere López, following the meeting of the board of trustees of the UNWTO Themis Foundation held on April 12 in Andorra la Vella.

This event, to be held in close collaboration with other key international partners and stakeholders, aims to bring together high-level representatives of the tourism public and private sectors and other global leaders so as to provide the industry with strategic insights and guidance into the challenges lying ahead.

The forum also constitutes a milestone in the growing cooperation between UNWTO and the government of Andorra. UNWTO and Andorra have a close institutional relation. The UNWTO Themis Foundation, sponsored by the government of Andorra and with its headquarters in Andorra la Vella, is the operational arm of UNWTO for implementing its program of work in the field of education, capacity building, training, strategic research, and networking.

Further joint programs include: the creation of a Tourism Observatory in Andorra; the development of a Mountain and Snow Tourism Knowledge Centre; the development of a tourism and training program at the University of Andorra; and other consolidated activities such as the practicum internship program for UNWTO member states officials, as well as other specialized training courses.
