TEXT SCAM

If you are a mobile phone owner, chances are you had your fair share of Text spams and scam. From whatever network you are using, whether postpaid or prepaid, you are not immune from this.

Here are some of the common scams I have encountered:

Scenario 1

1. You have won Pxxxxx, pls contact this number for details.. Promo from _____. DTI #xxxxxxx.. Sometimes it even has the name of the person to contact. Once you contact them, they will ask you to deposit money into an account, saying it's TAX or something like that. Don't be fooled. Murahin mo sila kagad. Better if you play along, get their Name, contact details, Bank info, address, etc and then report to the authorities. Don't forget to SMILE and tell them so after getting all of these info.

2. Honey/Baby, pasend naman ng P25 kasi naubos load ko.
wow! I guess they're banking that you call your SO by "Baby" or "Honey". Sadly, I'm sure there are a lot of people who got victimized by this. If ever you receive something like this, and you indeed call each other this pet names- think first. Is THIS their mobile number? Why would you send load to a different number?

3. Pare, e2 bago kong roaming number. Pa-save naman. Baka pwede pasahan mo ko load. Di ko makabili dito eh.
Very ingenious actually, because mostly every Filipino would have a friend or kamag-anak working in another country. Safest way to handle this - DON'T REPLY. Don't even ask, "kaw ba yan, pareng ___?" Chances are they will say YES anyway.
I almost replied when I got this text, but my logic then was- "why would I reply? If he is indeed in another country, that might cost me at least P25 per text." Good thing I didn't. I received numerous other texts of this variation- SCAM.

4. Na-sakin anak mo. Magdeposit ka kagad ng P10k sa account number na to XXXXXX.
I only read about this from another blog. Anyway, it wouldn't affect me, coz I'm single and have no children. Imagine if you were a parent and you recieve this kind of text.
If you do get something like this, don't panic. Stay calm and first think where your child is now. If he's playing outside, look for hiim/her first. If he's at school, call them to verify. Don't ever reply to the number, unless you're sure that it's a credible threat.

5. For Housing Loans, Credit card applications, insurance- contact BLAH BLAH office and look for Juan Tamad.
It's not a scam actually, more of spam text. I have recieved numerous texts like this from different numbers.
I have a postpaid mobile account, and my SO and I have one number difference. He recieves this kind of text the same time I do. Which leads me to believe that someone from the Telco is SELLING/ GIVING AWAY numbers of postpaid accounts to these spammers. I hope they do something about this.

6. Congratulations! You won P350 reload today. To claim your prize, just type 35 09XXXXXX and send to XXXX three times. Thank you! ___ POSTPAID PROMO.
Just got this text a while ago, and yes, it's what drove me to write this post.
Imagine, I WON P350 reload? HELLO, I HAVE A POSTPAID LINE. And what's even funnier that it indicates that it is a postpaid promo. Why would I need credits for that? It's annoying that it says to send the "code" THREE TIMES. wow gahaman.
I would have believed it but it was sent using a mobile number. If I fell for this, I would've have sent more than P100 load to this scammer. What annoys me the most is that its another proof that someone from the Telco gave away/sold my number. After all, how would they know I was on postpaid?
You have to give them props, though- those on prepaid would typically load on a daily basis, meaning just enough to register for unli text. By moving on to those on prepaid, they will be assured that they have enough credits to send them load. I hope they rot in hell.

Pls. don't fall victim to this scams. Always be distrustful of winning anything that you haven't registered for. Sabi nga nila, 'pano ka mananalo sa lotto, kung di ka tumataya?'

I'm not an overly high maintenance kind of girl, but I do take care of my skin. I try to use quality products and I don't skimp on the price. After all, if you use a cheap Shampoo it will damage your hair and you will have to pay twice as much for it to get back to normal.

But there are some things that are out of my control- burns, bruises, rashes, breakouts, etc. They leave marks on your skin and makes your skin tone uneven. Right now, I have so many marks from bruises and cuts that I am now on an ultimate quest for whitening!

Not whitening actually, I'm not obsessed with becoming fair, but just to even out my skin tone.

Last year, I had a bad breakout of acne, So I tried Acne.org's regimen - it worked for a while, I don't get as much pimples now but the dark marks still REMAIN. I don't like putting stuff on my face, I don't even wear make-up, so I decided to just maintain my skin by undergoing diamond peel- hoping that it will also lighten my dark marks and even out my skin tone.

As for my body, I love wearing shorts and sleeveless tops. So you can imagine that my face and body is not the same shade as my arms and legs. I also had a tiny accident when I tripped on a sidewalk which left me a HORRID SCAR. Aside from that, because I love wearing flipflops, you can see a V-shaped line on my feet. So ugly. To make matters worse, we went to the beach for the Holidays! Who knew it would be sunny in December?

To combat this, I searched online for reviews on whitening lotions- which led me to Block and White Ultima (the gold one, usually packaged in a box) with matching soap. It helped even out the marks on my feet (no more V-shape!) but sad to say, the scar on my leg is still visible (it did lighten though). Since it DOES obviously work, I want to continue using this product but it's actually very hard to find and most drugstores/supermarkets don't stock it. Will have to find an alternative.

Been reading some very good reviews about Venus & Mars Botanicals' Bare it all cream (BIA). So I decided to head on over to their website. I got very excited about their products that I couldn't decide which ones to get. Of course, I knew I had to get that BIA but there were a handful of other products that go with it to make it more effective. Who wouldn't want that, right?

I opted to try their Summer Promo which includes the BIA, their Lulur Soap, the CPC+G which you can mix in with the lotion and a spa milk salt rub- this was what I thought though, not what happened. Looks like this brand is so effective that they have run out of stock of some products!

Will just have to content myself with the BIA cream (new whipped peppermint variant not yet even posted online!) and the Lulur soap. If everything goes well, my next order will be making a big dent out of my pocket. ^ ^,

If not, well, there's this body bleaching promo at my favorite spa/clinic that I've been meaning to try.

Hair Removal

I always allot some time and budget to go to Lay Bare Waxing Salon for my "hygiene ritual." I usually go there to have my UA waxed and for some eyebrow threading. But ever since I bought myself some Strip-it Wax, I rarely go there now, I just DIY. The obvious advantage here is I get to save at least P350 (P150- UA, P100- threading, + TIP, +transpo) every month because one tub of this lasts for several months. The only downside is that I don't know how to shape my own eyebrows, so for several weeks, it has become a bush.

Now, there isn't a Lay Bare branch that is easily accessible from my home/work, and I didn't want to go all the way there just to have my eyebrows shaped. So, in an act of desperation, (I always get depressed when I see my bushy eyebrows in the mirror), I tried going to Let's Face It (which is walking distance from my work). Eyebrow Threading there is P150 + TIP.

What a big mistake. Never going back there again. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. What happened? you may ask. Nothing much:

I went inside the branch and registered for the eyebrow threading. Interior looks cozier than before.
After a few minutes, they ushered me in to the "room." It was a single room with lots of beds cramped in. I was told to lay down next to a girl having her facial. "kakahiya" was all I was thinking.
I had no where to place my bag (which was kind of big), I just placed it on the floor, hoping no one will snatch it.
Then comes the treatment. Now, I'm very used to the pain that comes with threading. But I don't know why, it was more painful than usual. Every hair that she pulled out made my eyes water.
To make matters worst. The "beautician" would talk to the others employees while working on me. Laughing and joking even!
But to cap it all off, she would make tactless comments about my eyebrows! "Look, I already know that its out of control, you don't have to say it to my face."
There was even another employee that she invited to look, and they would laugh and make comments together, ALL THE WHILE WHY THAT I WAS THERE. HELLO, I AM NOT ASLEEP.

I could here comments like "Ay, bakit ganyan itsura." and "Ayan, nagmukha na siyang kilay."
-WOW. Thanks.

I'm so sorry Lay Bare, I will never turn my back to you again.. :(

But just so that we are clear, here are some of the key differences between the two:

1. Laybare has separate cubicles for privacy. LFI is like a ward
2. Employees in Lay Bare are very professional and courteous. They don't make "chikka" to other staff. And if ever they have a trainee they want to bring in, they ask first if its okay with you.
3. Lay Bare has a separate area where their staff can lounge, so that they don't crowd around in the reception area.
4. Lay Bare applied some ointment after procedure. With corresponding after-care tips.
5. Lay Bare is cheaper!

Although, Lay Bare specializes in hair removal. You can't go there to get facials. LFI is more of a general aesthetic center, yet I still don't go there for my facial treatments- I go to W M Medical Spa.

Summer is waning..

There's still a few more weeks til Summer ends, and possibly (hopefully!) only a few more days of sun to endure. Since I graduated and started work, I really don't have enough time to enjoy summer- not like before where you had 2 1/2 months of vacation. Now, the most you can get is 2 weeks (which includes holy week and numerous holidays) unless you file for a leave.

Still, I still look forward to summer because:
a. less traffic- since students are on vacation, roads are less hectic during the morning and afternoon rush.
b. holy week is the most days you can get for vacation aside from christmas break

John Chow holding a contest to give away a brand new Apple iPad. To enter, all you have to do is blog and tweet about it. The contest is being sponsored by Urban Data, a website that gives you advanced information about any website on the Internet.

I tried using Urban Data for CS and MariaMasungit, unfortunately UrbanData seems to be targeted only for websites and not blogs.

So I tried some of my favorite sites
1. Kikay Exchange - I was a bit confused about the results here. It seems they were trying to pull the data of Exchage(dot)ph instead of the whole site.

2. Yugatech- I have hit gold! By gold, I mean, data results. I won't put it here though, for fear of threading on copyright infringement of what nots.

Urban Data pulls out web hosting information, Company Information (which includes owner details and location), some of the most recent posts, statistics and traffic information, and it even tracks down buzz from related social networks and other websites. Very impressive. Yugatech has a pagerank of 5.

3. House on a hill- Just one last try. I am also a frequent lurker on this site. I was a bit surprised that UrbanData failed to pull any information on this site. It simply refreshes. It doesn't even have the decency to tell me that it failed. House on a hill uses the same web host as Yugatech but it's url ends with (dot)net.

I can't be sure, but probably Urban Data can only gather information on (dot)com websites. Yet, I was able to successfully gather data on Greenpeace.org, Earthligorgeous and southbound.ph

Is it a case on just (dot) net websites then? I tried PinoyCook.net. But it also pulled data on this successfully.
I am running out of hypotheses here.

Oh well. This is supposed to be a post about the giveaway. It turned into a detective case.

I like reading books, fiction or non-fiction. It's up there in my list of favorite things, along with drawing, cooking/eating and watching Discovery Channel. You'll know I liked certain book if I have read it many times. I have re-read the Harry Potter series lots of times in the past years.

Now, I thought of reviving my Harry Potter obsession by analyzing them one by one armed with the knowledge of the seven books. There are a lot of little details I know I overlooked and facts that were taken for granted that, in time, proved to be important.

One of the things I tend to over-analyze is all of Snape's actions- seeing if there were any obvious signs of his "hidden agendas."

It can be something big, say, getting a promotion but it could also be the small things like waking up to the smell of coffee.

In this day and age, it's easy to get caught up and just focus on the negative things. The moment you wake up, noise pollution greets you (not to mention air and land), traffic is a major headache, work/school is hectic and since almost everybody else is experiencing the same things, you're surrounded by people who are also stressed and grouchy.

Even if you are so tired, so stressed and just plain sick of life, it's important to look back to your day (or week, or month) and see those things that make it all worthwhile, they may be hiding pretty well, but I'm sure, they're there. Whether it's a funny quote you received that made you laugh, or maybe its that extra fluffy pillow that welcomes you home from a hard day.

For me, it's that "Good morning" greeting from my significant other;. it's listening to the funny banters from the Morning Rush (RX 93.1); it's getting a simple "nice work" from my boss; it's counting the days till the next weekend; it's listing those things I want to buy on the next payday; it's looking at the clock and realizing there's only 30minutes till office hours end; and it's coming home to my loving family.

"Defending the Caveman" is the longest running one-man comedy show in Broadway history and is also the winner of the 2001 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. To date, the show has won the hearts of millions in over 35 countries in more than 16 different languages. The Chicago Sun Times has dubbed it an "outrageously funny and surprisingly sweet exploration of the gender gap", while the New York Times proclaimed it "a comic phenomenon".

Comedian Rob Becker wrote the play over a three-year period. During that time, he gathered insight from psychology, sociology, and prehistory, and seamlessly blended this knowledge with his stand-up comedy expertise. Becker fills "Defending the Caveman" with hilarious observations on the ever-evolving battle of the sexes, making the show perfect entertainment for a couple`s night out.
