Today we will learn How to convert any image into ASCII code with the help of Anaconda (Anaconda is a distribution of the Python and R programming languages for scientific computing (data science, machine learning applications, large-scale data processing, predictive analytics, etc.), that aims to simplify package management and deployment. The distribution includes data-science packages suitable for Windows, Linux, and macOS.)

Firstly install the anaconda in your system.

Choose the bit according to your system.
After installing the software open it, go on the new button (right on the corner) click it and select the python3 option.
Write the code pip Install pywhatkit

Click on the run button.
After completing the pip installation.
Now write import pywhatkit as pwt
then write pwt.image_to_ascii_art("File location\\File name.jpg","File location\\File name.txt")
Now run the code.
Your ASCII Code image is ready.
Save the file.
After saving the file, your file will save in the text format in notepad.

Note-

\\ must be required.
White background for good image quality.
Photo format JPG.

Method -1

First, switch off your mobile.
Then press the power and volume up buttons together for a few seconds.
Then your mobile screen will display the wipe data option, then click on it.
Before cleaning all the data make sure that you have taken the backup of data.
After choose to wipe data option, it will ask again your permission then click on yes.
After click on yes then it will clean all your data from your mobile within a second.
After cleaning the data display will show again those messages, this time click on the reboot option.
Reboot will take several minutes.

Congratulations, now you have successfully erased all data from your mobile phone.

Go in Settings.
Then click on the Backup & reset option.
If you didn't find the option then don't worry, go on search settings and write Backup & reset, it will be open the Backup & reset settings
First, make sure that Backup my data option ON.
Then goes on factory data reset.
Then it will show the reset phone option, click there
It will take several minutes.

This method required two devices first your mobile and the other is your second mobile or pc.

Then go on the sign-in as a guest.
And sign in.
Click on Erase device.
Do sign again.
Then it will ask for 2 step verification.
After doing 2 step verification, pop up message will display on your screen, which will confirm for permanently erase data, then click it.

The 26th of January is recorded in golden letters in the country's history. India officially became a republic on this day in 1950. Since then January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day every year. The five aviators have experienced combat veterans and have hundreds of hours of combat flight hours under their belt each. The Avenger aircraft they fly are fresh off the production line, equipped with all the latest flight gear that the US arms industry can afford. The planes plot a course east, flying for fifty-six miles to execute a few practice bombing runs at the Hens and Chicken Shoals-a naval proving ground. Then the planes will fly east for sixty-seven more miles to reach the Bahamas, before flying north for seventy-three miles and then turning back for Florida. The planes plot a triangular flight path across the Bermuda's which will end with them back home. As the flight heads out to sea though, the lead pilot's compass starts spinning out of control. Commander Charles Taylor carefully checks and rechecks his equipment, but can't find a reason for the compass malfunction. The other pilot's radio over that they too are experiencing strange equipment malfunctions. Taylor radios back to Fort Lauderdale and informs the tower thereof their equipment malfunction. Even more troubling, he reports his locations being over the Florida keys, which should be impossible as he and his wingmen have flown due east for the last hour. The tower radios back, informing Taylor to immediately turn north and head for Miami- but only if he is sure he is over the Florida keys. Lacking modern radar and IFF transmitters, the tower is as in the dark to Taylor's position as he is. Suddenly, Taylor spots a mysterious silver, saucer-shaped craft directly in front of him. The craft appears to have accelerated towards his plane in the blink of an eye. Looking inside a small porthole cut into the craft, Taylor spots the face of a Zeti Reticulian alien waving back at him, licking its lips in anticipation at the delicious human brain feast it is about to gorge itself on. At the same time, miles beneath the Atlantic ocean, a fire crystal that once powered the now sunken city of Atlantis hums with energy. The Atlantean relic, damaged in the great catastrophe that sunk the legendary city beneath the waves eons ago, is still functional, but severely damaged. The fire crystal releases a burst of energy that bores through miles of water and into the sky, incinerating Taylor and his aircraft. Arriving in our distant future, Taylor lands his plane to find a planet ruled by Bigfoots- a planet of the mythical apes. The Bermuda Triangle has mystified humanity ever since the disappearance of the now legendary Flight 19, but for as long as the myths surrounding the alleged mysteries of the triangle have persisted, so too have the debunkers who have worked far harder than any human should have to, to try and convince people that Atlanteanfire crystals, sea monsters, alien space ships and time vortexes don't exist. Now a scientist has finally pulled the curtain back on the truth behind the Bermuda triangle- and his discoveries, all backed up with scientific evidence, have shocked many. Well, in truth they haven't shocked many people at all- and that's because scientist Karl Kruszelnicki has at last revealed with empirical evidence that the only mystery surrounding the Bermuda Triangle is that there never was a mystery, to begin with. Much like conspiracy theories surrounding JFK's assassination, the mental programming of male models to become elite assassins for the fashion industry, and the moon landing, it turns out that good old fashioned human ignorance, a whole lot of misinformation, and an appetite for mystery is mostly to blame for the Bermuda Triangle alleged weirdness. Take the legendary disappearance of Flight19 for example. In our opening scenario we told the story as most conspiracy theorists tell it- and yet there are very many glaring errors even before we get to the aliens, fire crystals, and time vortexes. The weather for example was not crystal clear, and there was a moderate cloud cover that impeded the pilot's sight at times. The waves below were cresting at about fifteen meters- hardly calm skies for a pleasant afternoon flight. The pilots themselves were not combated veterans with hundreds of flight hours between them, but rather four of them were extremely inexperienced and on what would have been one of their first training flights. Commander Taylor himself was also quite a controversial figure. He was known to be a heavy drinker, and in fact, had shown up that day quite hungover. Also, he had a prior history of getting lost and having to ditch his plane, having done so twice already. Not the best navigator in the world, which maybe helps explain why he drifted so far off course. The fact that the airmen were not flying brand new Avengers, but rather well-used aircraft, probably also explains why Taylor's compass malfunctioned which only exacerbated the problems with Taylor's poor navigation skills. And there was of course only one recorded malfunctioning compass, not four, which further decreases the mystery of the disappearance. Taylor's pilots had repeatedly postulated that they had accidentally flown southeast, not southwest as Taylor believed. Several pilots even repeatedly suggested that they turn west, though Taylor insisted that they fly east instead, taking them further out to sea. One of the pilots is even thought to have broken formation and headed west, albeit too late to save himself as his plane ran out of fuel. From facts alone, we can already see how many elements of Flight 19's disappearance have been misunderstood or misrepresented by conspiracy theorists. With a factual account of the disappearance, it doesn't seem like much of a mystery at all. Taylor was irresponsible, took off with a malfunctioning compass, and then led his flight deeper out to sea instead of turning west as he should have done. Heavy cloud cover likely obscured views of any recognizable landmasses and added to the difficulty in navigating.

Mystery solved- Taylor got his men killed due to an error of judgment, and certainly didn't need the help of extinct Atlanteansor space aliens to do so. There is of course the popular follow-up to Flight 19's disappearance- the disappearance of a search and rescue aircraft sent on the same flight path that very night. Once more depending on which conspiracy theory website you read the story on, the disappeared plane either vanished into thin air, was spotted being followed by UFOs, or became a victim of another Atlantean fire crystal. Yet in reality, the alleged 'sudden' and 'unexplained' disappearance had several witnesses who all reported a fireball crashing to the ocean. The next morning plane debris and an oil slick was discovered. This was the work of UFOs trying to throw investigators off the scent. Except the PBM Mariner aircraft which had been dispatched to look for the missing flight already had a nasty reputation for randomly exploding- which on a top ten list of things an aircraft shouldn't do it right at number one. The aircraft had already earned the nickname of 'flying gas tank' by its pilots, and after the disappearance of the search and rescue Mariner, the Navy grounded all of its Mariners and eventually replaced them altogether.

So an irresponsible commander with a faulty compass showed up to work half-drunk and led his men far out into the sea to crash, and the search and rescue aircraft dispatched to find any remains itself exploded due to its poor construction. For some, this is still not enough to convince them that aquatic Bigfoots in cahoots with space aliens aren't firing Atlantean fire crystals at our planes and ships. Since the mid-1970s, Lloyds of London has been attempting to convince the unwashed masses that there is nothing weird about the Bermuda triangle. Lloyds of London is a maritime insurer who has insured ships heading out to sea since the seventeenth century. Every time one of their insured ships goes down in an accident or bad weather, they lose a significant amount of money- thus Lloyds of London keeps one of the world's most detailed records of all maritime accidents all around the globe. The area known as the Bermuda Triangle is a very heavily trafficked sea lane. Cruise ships routinely cross through the triangle bringing thousands of tourists to the Bahamas and other tropical islands, and giant cargo ships cross through the waters en route to ports in the Gulf of Mexico. A ship wishing to dock at the southern US's largest ports- such as Mobile, Alabama, must cross through the triangle on its way to America from Europe, Africa, or even Asia. All of this heavy ship and air traffic is bound to result in a large number of shipping accidents and lost ships. No matter how advanced our modern technology is, some estimates say that we still lose two dozen large ships every year, completely vanishing along with their crews. The ocean is still a wild and very dangerous place for mankind to tread, and occasionally it likes to remind us of that fact. When you concentrate large amounts of shipping traffic through a narrow corridor such as the Bermuda Triangle, it's expected that from time to time there will be a headlines grabbing disappearance. Yet after scouring its records, Lloyds of London was able to prove to the public that this part of the world suffers shipping accidents and losses at nearly the same rate as anywhere else on the planet.

They've been trying to tell the world at large about this since 1974- and in a completely predictable fashion, most people continue to call it fake news. The deep state- in this case, a literal deep state beneath the waves known as Atlantis- is clearly to blame. Briefly, another theory that was at least scientific was proposed for the loss of ships and planes across the Triangle. This theory states that massive releases of methane gas, frozen beneath the first few layers of soil at the bottom of the ocean, could be responsible for sinking ships and dropping planes out of the sky. Such a large release of methane could create a swarm of bubbles directly underneath a ship which would destroy its buoyancy, and cause the ship to immediately sink. Imagine one huge bubble slowly rising to the surface, with a ship at the very center of it when it breaks to the surface and bursts. With no ocean underneath it, the ship plummets into the empty air cavity it and the ocean crashes down above it, immediately sinking the ship. In a very similar way, this is what the theorists propose happens to ships in the Triangle.

The methane however can rise for tens of thousands of feet, and when it comes into contact with the superheated jet exhaust, it can explode. The resulting explosion could damage jet engines and cause planes to fall out of the sky. The theory is completely plausible and very realistic- except scientists say that the last massive release of undersea methane in the area occurred about fifteen thousand years ago. It turns out that the only real mystery surrounding the Bermuda Triangle is why there's a mystery left to begin with. This article was made possible by Assassin’s Creed Origins, which is out today. When we think of ancient Egypt, most imagines and swept plains with giant pyramids jousting up from a barren desert, juxtaposed next to the lush meandering Nile spilling nutrients into the surrounding floodplains to feed this burgeoning empire. But all we have for reference for this vision of the past are the ancient monuments and artifacts that remain and ancient hieroglyphs, that puzzled linguists for centuries. The ways of this ancient world is shrouded in mystery, so when I was invited out by Ubisoft to get a private tour of the British Museum, speak with historians and get hands-on experience with their 3D exportable vision of ancient Egypt in Assassin's Creed Origins to learn more, I jumped at the opportunity. Today we are going to explore this ancient world and try to uncover one of its greatest secrets, how a civilization without power machinery managed to build those gigantic godly structures. In our modern world, these structures may seem to some as just huge piles of rock. With modern machinery, like cranes, it may be easy to take for granted the monumental task of moving and lifting this much material. So let’s put this problem in context founders and why it has baffled historians for centuries. The largest of the Great Pyramids, Pyramid Khufu, was the tallest man-made structure on earth for almost four thousand years. Pyramid Khufu contains over 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tonne's, which form the interior structure of the pyramid and an additional 200,000 blocks were used for the smooth white stone casing, which now only exists on the upper cap. but the Pyramids aren’t simply giant piles of limestone arranged nicely, Pyramid Khufu, incredibly, contains massive interior chambers, like the king’s chamber, which is supported by massive granite beams, with the heaviest weighing about 40 tones, that’s about the same as the maximum allowable weight of a fully laden articulated truck. These stones are located between 43 meters and 65 meters up the pyramid. Just transporting the massive stones to the site from the quarries was a massive undertaking, but other civilizations that predate the Egyptians have achieved similar feats, like Stonehenge, or the even more ancient Irish building of Newgrange. The limestone for the Pyramids was quarried nearby, much of it quarried directly next to the pyramids, while the granite was likely taken from Aswan and transported to the site on boats. We know from hieroglyphs that the Egyptians used wooden sleds to transport heavy objects, while workers lubricated its movement with water. This was simply a problem of manpower, which the wealthy Egyptian empire was not short on. What has fascinated me is the logistic challenge of building a structure like this, the sequence of events and mechanisms that these ancient engineers used to lift these immense weights into place is a mystery, a mystery that many have tried to solve, but many theories come up short. To solve this riddle, let’s start with what we do know. First things first, unless the Pyramids were truly built by aliens with anti-gravity machines, the pyramids were built from the bottom. Next, because of the precise geometric shape of the pyramids, with each side of the Great Pyramid being 230.3 meters long, with the largest difference in lengths, between the Northern and Southern edge, at only 4.4 centimeters. This level of accuracy could only have been possible if the external casing stones were laid first, allowing any deviations to be caught early and corrected before the internal structure was filled in. This makes any theories for external ramps or cranes unlikely, as they would have been extremely difficult to attach to the smooth external wall, which was inclined at 52 degrees. Instead, the most prevalent theory suggests a ramp on one side of the pyramid that would raise with the pyramid, but this has its limitations. When pulling a weight like this uphill, the force required is given by this equation.

The average mass of blocks was 2.5 tonnes, or about 24,500 Newton's, there were heavier blocks, but these were mainly used in the lower levels. Let’s set our slope angle alpha, at 7 degrees, and the coefficient of friction between two pieces of wet wood is about 0.1, using these figures we can calculate the force needed to pull this weight uphill at 5418 Newton's. Modern safety guidelines say the maximum any worker should pull is 225 Newton's, but since this is a prolonged track and stoppings not an option, most calculate the max each worker would pull at 150 Newton's or about15.3 kg. So that means we would need around 36 workers would be needed to haul this weight. This figure is reasonable, but for every additional degree of slope, at least an extra 3 workers will be needed, which would soon become extremely impractical. The other option, of simply elongating the ramp and maintaining the angle is completely unfeasible, as constructing the ramp would be a bigger project than the great pyramid itself.

Like any modern construction project, these are all logistical issues the Egyptians would have had to overcome. This is the core of engineering. Trying to solve problems with the tools at hand, and now we have to reverse engineer this problem without knowing exactly what tools the Egyptians had. One of the most convincing theories I have seen, from French architect, Jean-Pierre Houdin, may hold the truth of the Pyramids construction. Jean-Pierre theorized that this external ramp was used to construct up to the height of the King's Chamber at around 43 meters, allowing the heaviest granite stones used to be hauled up this ramp. Granite has often been used in grand historic buildings for its superior compressive strength, allowing the buildings to grow in size, here the granite was tasked with supporting the immense weight of the pyramid above the King’s Chamber. At this height, the majority of the volume of the pyramid is completed, but we still need a way of transporting those final blocks into place. This is where the innovative part of Jean-Pierre’s theory comes in. He proposes that while the first 43 meters were being constructed, the workers also built an internal ramp, which would transport material recycled from the exterior ramp to the top of the pyramid.

Now, this theory should be easy to prove, the interior ramp should still exist, but the Pyramid is a protected structure, we can’t just take it apart to see what’s inside. But we do have tools that can peer into the internal structure without damaging it, one team used micro gravimetric in 1986 to measure the density of different sections of the pyramid. This research produced this image, showing a strange pattern where the green indicates lower density, which closely matches the pattern of Jean Pierre’s predicted internal ramp. I believe this is the most convincing theory to date, but it is yet to be confirmed or disproven. The mystery of the pyramids construction may remain a mystery forever, but you can explore this mysterious world in Assassin’s Creed Origins, which is out today. Before we get into the secret world of these mysterious tunnels under the city of Paris, we should probably explain to those who don know what the catacombs actually are. And before you get carried away with your imagination, these are not as has been depicted in cinema, with hordes of ravenous zombies living down there. According to the “Les Catacombes Des Paris” website, the reason these holes in the ground got started was because in the 18th century Paris had a major problem on its hands. The issue was the fact the cemeteries were too full and a place was needed to put a lot of dead bodies, and we are talking about millions. Stuck with this morbid task the Parisian authorities chose a site called the Tombe-Issoire quarries. Those quarries were no longer in use, having been dug in the 15th century and onwards but abandoned sometime later. These underground tunnels stretched for 800hectares (over 3 square miles) under the city of Paris. The job at hand was called “bone transfer” and the man responsible for emptying the cemeteries and moving the remains of once-moving/laughing/eating/procreating and dying Parisians was a guy called Charles Axel Guillemot. With his department, he started the moving-house process in 1785 and the excavation of bones was done from the biggest cemetery in Paris at the time, called the Saints-Innocents cemetery. It had been closed 5 years prior as there was literally no space for any more dead people. It had been taking corpses by that time for 10 centuries, which is a lot of bones.

No room at the dead man’s inn scenario was not just a French problem. If you read Bill Bryson’s book “At Home: A Short History of Private Life” you can read that France’s neighbor, Great Britain, was having its own problems with getting rid of the dead. Back to France, and this operation of bone transfer was done under a cloak of darkness lest people get offended by someone manhandling their deceased family member’s bits and pieces. The bones were taken down to the quarries and put into what are called galleries. Work stopped for a while and upstairs some of the French were busy revolting and quite a lot were dying, making the burial situation even worse. Following the revolution, work commenced and smaller cemeteries around Paris had their bones taken from them. While the site was officially called the “Paris Municipal Ossuary” it began to take on mythical proportions and was informally called the catacombs, after the tunnels under the ancient city of Rome. So there we have it, an abridged version at least. Paris needed a place for bones because the cemeteries were bursting at the seams, and that’s why those underground tunnels were made. As you can imagine, such a place was kind of spooky for the French, and back then people weren’t always opposed to stories of the dead rising and other superstitious beliefs. If you get spooked by graveyards now, imagine what the average Parisian thought back then of a place where millions of the dead were buried, not all with content souls. In fact, it’s said the catacombs hold around7 million people.

You might even call it “The City of the dead”, so it’s no wonder that filmmakers have chosen it as a spot for horror flicks. Next time you’re in Paris you should take your Ouija board down there, but remember not to say, “Is there anybody here?” because the spirits probably won’t understand you. Instead say, “Y a-t-il quelqu'un ici ?” It might have been scary, but after 1809 when the place was opened to the public it attracted a lot of visitors from France and abroad. It got even more visitors when well-known people were sent to live for eternity down there, including the once President of FranceNapoleon III – related to the bellicose Napoleon you all know well. At times the hordes of visitors got too much for the authorities and they limited entrance or just closed the place to the public for months on end. These days you can go down there any time of the year and it’s said annually about 550,000 people do just that. Ok, so that’s the history, but what about the mystery and intrigue. Well, one would think that an underground place of that size would have an underground society. That it did, and we are told on August 23, 2004, cops went down there and had quite the surprise, finding a cinema. We must mention here that some parts of the catacombs are closed off from the public, but it seems some people get past the barriers.

This is what Gizmodo tells us about this discovery, “They found 3,000 square feet of subterranean galleries, strung with lights, wired for phones, live with pirated electricity. The officers uncovered a bar, lounge, workshop, dining corner, and small screening area.” When they found a metal container with fat and wires in it they thought they’d come across a bomb and that something very ominous was going on down in those holes, but the bomb squad said what they found was merely couscous maker. Who were these people? The cops didn’t know, and when they returned a few days later with more authorities they found most of the equipment gone and a letter left for the reading, “Ne Cherchez pas,” meaning “Don’t search.” That kind of message obviously caused a frisson of panic in the police as saying don’t search was what someone with bad intent might say. Soon the world’s media was speculating. Was there an underground movement in Paris-it wouldn’t be the first time Parisians had machinated to attack the powers that be. This was serious, given that many of the closed tunnels could be home to anything, and there are supposed to be about 155 miles (250km)of passageways in total. But nothing sinister was going on, and later a group responsible for the underground cinema said, “We are the counterpoint to an era where everything is slow and complicated.”

It was discovered the group called themselves “The Mexican Consolidated Drilling Authority.” That’s the English translation. This was a serious outfit, given they'd stolen electricity to power their cinema and got all that stuff down there without anyone seeing. But others have been fascinated by the catacombs for years, and these folks are often called “cataphylls”. Who wouldn’t be fascinated by a place where the Phantom of the Opera hid and where millions of dead rest? But many real-life things happened down there that have caused people to be intrigued. A group known as the Communards (not the 80sBritish pop duo) killed a bunch of French monarchists in the tunnels. The French Resistance hid in them, while the Nazis had a bunker down in the catacombs. More recently AirBnB paid a whopping $300,000to rent some part of the tunnels for the night. What’s more interesting, especially to cataphylls, is that there are many, many secret entrances to the catacombs. You might find a doorway to this underground world of the dead in bar cellars, subway tunnels, and better still, in church crypts. Not surprisingly, sometimes these doors get found and people go down there to explore. And let’s face it, you’re not a teenager if you don’t enjoy exploring places you probably shouldn’t go. Well, perhaps modern teens do most of their exploration in the digital realm and in games, but in the past, the best thing about being young was sneaking into places and quite often getting in trouble.

Could there be any place in the world better to sneak into for a bunch of teens than the Paris catacombs? Well, that happened in 2017 but as you might expect, it didn’t go too well for the itinerant teens. Two boys aged 16 and 17 got lost down therewith the dead and were only eventually pulled out three days later both with a case of mild hypothermia. Three days under the ground in the cold walking around tunnels with no food and mostly in darkness takes sneaking into places to another level.

Still, they have a better story to tell than, “I completed level 5.” Hmm, ok, so it might just be a little irresponsible of us to promote this kind of adventure. We say this because someone died down therein 2016. The person didn’t die from cold or being lost, though, he died of a heart attack when he was partying hard down there. One thing you should know about the catacombs, they have been a top spot for Parisian people who like to party. You could call these events the quintessential underground party. The French media says a bunch of people took some music down, along with a lot of booze and some substances not legal in the living world. Things turned awry when a 45-year old man's heart had seen too much partying. There are other reports of people going missing down there. In 2011, five people went down drunk but it was a prank, and two ran away to leave the others. But they didn’t get out and spent two days wandering around. In other cases, artists have gone to make films and take pictures, some of them even with an erotic angle.

One of the people who control how many people go down there says every week people ask him if they can visit and do something weird or wonderful. “Obviously, we say no. This is a sacred place, which houses the remains of six million Parisians. We only allow serious or scientific documentaries,” he said to the French media. He says there is a growing problem with what are called naked explorers, and many of them apparently come all the way from the USA. We are told that the modus operandi often is for the people to go down there and pretend they are just tourists, but they then leave lots of equipment and return later. But for the locals, there is still what you might call an underground cult that visit the catacombs and discuss art, the end of the world, or just take a swim where pools of water can be found. Free from the hustle and bustle of Parisian streets and the pretension of café culture, some French folks just like to get down with the dead and leave the rest of the world behind. But as you might expect, such a good hiding place is also attractive to those people inclined to criminality. In 2017 there was a case that involved some thieves drilling through walls to get to some rather special vintage wine that was secretly kept underground. That wine was said to be worth over $280,000. Get ready guys: The Northern Lights might be taking a trip south this weekend.

There is a cast the aurora borealis light show will be on full-display for observers across Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, and New York, according to the University of Alaska Fairbanks’s Geophysical Institute aurora forecast Saturday.
Other regions further south may also get a look of the color-filled view, the institute found. Wyoming, Nebraska, and Indiana are projected to have low visibility, and even Annapolis, Maryland, may get flashes of the lights.
Typically the lights are reserved for observers in the northern latitudes across Alaska, Canada, and Scandinavia. But this weekend the aurora borealis is making a relatively rare appearance across large swaths of the US thanks to a solar flare, or an influx of charged particles, that erupted on March 20,2019.

Still, there is a chance the storm may not be entirely visible to any of these regions in the US. The ideal conditions for such an effect require clear and dark skies, which means that rural star-gazers will likely have an easier time spotting the lights than most city dwellers. It also does not help that the near-full moon Saturday night may obscure visibility.
For the best results, the UAF(University of Alaska Fairbanks) Geophysical Institute recommends looking out for the aurora three to four hours before midnight.

There’s a link between cannabis and psychosis, but it’s more complicated than it seems

This week, a published study announced that effective cannabis significantly increases the risk of psychosis. So much so, found the authors of The Lancet paper, that around 30% of first-episode psychosis experiences in London and 50% of those in Amsterdam could be prevented if high-potency cannabis were not available in those cities.

Those findings are of course concerning, and they are part of a body of work showing the link between marijuana and poor mental health: Earlier research found cannabis is correlated with psychotic traits, such as paranoia; scientists issued a public health warning about the drug in 2016; and a recently published book on marijuana, Tell Your Children, highlights a 2013 paper that found a link between weed and violence, as well as increased rates in violence in the state of Washington shortly after it legalized weed in 2012.

Ultimately, though, they are far from conclusive. One major question is whether cannabis causes psychosis, or if those who are predisposed to psychosis are also more likely to seek out marijuana. So far, evidence points in both directions. Some research suggests cannabis both increases the possibility of schizophrenia and that those with the mental condition tend to use marijuana more than the general population. Meanwhile, a 2017 study showed that there is a genetic overlap between the tendency for cannabis use and schizophrenia.

It is also significant to note that the Lancet paper focused on daily users of high-potency cannabis, rather than those who only smoke occasionally; as might be expected, some of the clearest evidence of risk, such as the recent Lancet paper, focuses on heavy users. Moreover, the authors point out that many daily users didn't develop a psychotic disorder; their findings on the percentage of psychosis problems that could be prevented are based on statistical analysis, but further work is necessary to identify the other important factors.

Since marijuana remains illegal in much of the world, there are major regulation and restrictions around researching it. So scientists really do not yet know as much as they should. There is also evidence that the drug causes benefits: there is considerable evidence that it can treat chronic pain and insomnia, for example, and the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a cannabinoid to treat a form of epilepsy. Incredibly, Harvard scientists recently found that smoking weed is associated with a higher sperm count, though further research is needed to determine exactly how cannabis affect fertility.

Overall, few drugs come without risks and there is certainly considerable evidence that cannabis is associated with psychosis. But marijuana’s reputation in North America and Western Europe has veered between the hippy conception of the drug a natural risk-free medicine, and 1970s conservative politicians’ view that weed is a highly dangerous substance that causes criminality. The truth is somewhere in between.

Helen Brooks, the lead author of the study, tells NPR that many of the sufferers "felt deep emotional connections with their pets that were not available from friends and family." You know your dog likes you ... or does she just love shelter and belly rubs and treats? If you ever worry over this mystery, science is here with a new tidbit of reassurance. Dogs are so hyper-devoted to us, it seems that they have evolved a special region of their brain for processing human faces.

We call dogs "man's best friend" because, at a variable level, dogs and humans have a connection. Humans trained dogs thousands of years ago, so we have been companions for a long time. (40 thousand years, by some estimates!) We have basically evolved to love each other. The love runs deep, too. Dogs understand us better than monkeys do, even though genetically, monkeys are our nearby relatives. At times, dogs know humans better than we understand each other. They can identify our faces and read our facial expressions; they can even take on our moods. (If you think it makes your dog sad when you cry, you are right!)Researchers grew curious: Would happiness of understanding and cohabiting with humans show up, somehow, in a dog's neural pathways? It seemed possible. Then again, even when you know a relationship is going well, you do not know how well until they give you a drawer at their apartment — or, you know, a designated region in their brain. In a new study, researchers specifically focused on how dogs understand faces. Which areas of their brains do they use for processing dog faces? Human faces? Is there any difference? To examine this, they used fMRI brain scans on a dozen dogs, all trained to hold still for the duration of a brain scan. (They were very good dogs; only 5 percent of the data was mucked up by dog movement.)Inside the fMRI machine, researchers showed the dogs pictures of the dog and human faces. Some of the faces were close — canine pals from the kennel, or the dog's (human) trainer — while others were of strangers. To add even more variety to the images, researchers conferred the dogs three photos of each human face: one with a negative expression, another with a positive expression, and a third that looked neutral. All the faces, although of species, sparked activity in the dogs' canine temporal cortices, the part of their brain where dogs handle facial recognition. However, the human faces — regardless of their expression and familiarity — triggered activity in a slightly different area than the dog faces. In other words, there could be a special region of the canine temporal cortex devoted to humans.

For now, though, it is unclear if this region is for humans exclusively, or if dogs would use this area to process any face from another species. (Given dogs' borderline offensive ability to read human faces and feelings, though, this brain region probably works better on human faces than on, say, iguana faces.) It also remains unclear if all dogs process human and dog faces separately, or if it is just dogs who have trained intensively with humans, like the dogs in this study. For now, though, it seems like dogs' millennia-long bond with humans has literally restructured their brains. Honestly, it is probably reshaped our brains, too. If dogs did not exist, there is no way we did say "Who is a good boy?" this much.
