Hello everyone! We're back with another great comprehensive guide on customizing your guinea pig's cage with accessories.

Fleece bedding comes in many fun prints and can instantly give your cage a new look. Try mixing and matching different patterns and making your cage themed. For more info on buying fleece and more, check out this handy guide from Cali Cavy Collective.

Guinea pigs enjoy having a place to hide in so you may want to invest in things such as pigloos, tunnels, cozy bags/sacks, plush houses, or even a small hammock! Spiffy Pigs on Etsy has a great selection of beds, tunnels, and cozy sacks and you can visit their store here. We also recommend Coziehedgiebags, another store on Etsy that also various cage accessories such as cage liners and play tunnels. The store sells items that are actually meant for hedgehogs, but some guinea pigs can also use them too.

If you are crafty and enjoy sewing, you could also make your own cage accessories. We found this fun tutorial on how to make a "mushroom den" pictured below. The instructions can be found here on Craft Wookie.

Some other ideas for decorating your cavy's cage include adding small toys, wood chews, pillows and cushions, a mirror, fleece curtains, and chew toys. Happy Cavy has a great post featuring cheap and almost-free toys for your guinea pig right here.

Feeding Your Guinea Pigs

Hey everyone! Today we'll be talking about what to feed your guinea pigs and share some tips.

First of all, guinea pigs need an unlimited supply of hay because it keeps their teeth from over-growing and it keeps their digestive system moving.

Giving your guinea pig a vitamin tablet daily is highly recommended as guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C. Pellets and fruits and vegetables do contain some vitamin C but it often may not be enough.

For pellets, try to pick one with vitamin C in it. One guinea pig should have about 1/8 cup of pellets everyday. So if you have two guinea pigs, double it (1/4 cup).

Now, on to veggies. One guinea pig should ideally have a cup of veggies everyday including some leafy greens as well. Some vegetables you can feed your piggies are carrots, celery, peppers, cucumber, kale and spinach. Your cavy will also enjoy pesticide-free grass and dandelions.

Guinea pigs should not be given fruit in large amounts however you can give it to them every 1-2 weeks. When you do give them fruit, only give them a little bit at a time, some chunks of apple slice should do the trick. My piggies enjoy apple and they LOVE grapes.

It is also important that your guinea pigs always have fresh water in a water bottle. Do not add vitamin C drops to your guinea pig's water as they may drink less and will not be getting enough vitamin C.

DIY Guinea Pig Crafts For You & Your Cavy

Hello, fellow piggy lovers! We have a special post today featuring some of our favourite DIY projects that are guinea pig themed. Below each project will be a link to the original source.☺

Pictured above is a Gleeful Guinea Pig Plush you can stitch and you can find the embroidery pattern for the guinea pig in Stitch Love: Sweet Creatures Big & Small. Here we'll show you how to make a felt lettuce leaf.

Note: Before you start this project, be sure to download the Gleeful Guinea Pig Lettuce Leaf.

Step-By-Step Directions

Cut out two leaf shapes from green felt for each lettuce leaf you make
Embroider the veins onto one of the leaves with back-stitch and three strands of green embroidery floss. Then, carefully tear away the tracing paper.
Hold the two leaf shapes together and stitch around the edge with running stitch and three strands of green embroidery floss. Hide the knot between the layers.
You have now created a lettuce leaf for your guinea pig!

After you construct the house you can decorate it however way you like. Pictured below the pigloo DIY is a fleece pouch tutorial that shows you how to custom-make a cozy bag for your piggies to enjoy.

Guinea Pig Hay Bag

Hi, today we are going to show you how to make your own hay bags. They help to keep your cage less messy and keep less hay from falling out.

Things you will need:

- Fabric (we used fleece and some other fabric)

- Thread

- Sewing Machine (Optional: you can also sew it by hand if you'd like)

- Scissors

- Paper (If you want to make a template)

- Ruler

- Pins

- Binder clips (any type of clip would work)

Steps

1. If you want to make a template get a piece of paper that is 10" by 10" or put two pieces of paper together to make a piece that is 10" by 10".

2. Now you can pin the template on a piece of folded fabric. Then cut it out.

3. You should now have two pieces of 10" by 10" fabric.
Get one of the pieces. Now your going to cut the openings for them to eat from. We made our openings 2" all around. (You can make a pattern for the openings as well.) We made a pattern for each opening and placed it 2" in on all sides. Then pin, trace it, and cut it out.

4. Now take your other piece of fabric and put it on top of the other piece facing inwards because you are are going to sew it inside out. Now you can either use a sewing machine or sew it by hand, sew the two sides and the bottom and leave the top open. Lastly, fold it right side out.

5. You now can attach it to your cage with some sort of clip. We decided to use binder clips.
