Sweet Sounds Of Saturdays - Sleigh Bells

On this beautiful Saturday, the sweetest sound right now is Sleigh Bells. They are a duo from my favourite musical place in the whole wide world, Brooklyn, New York.

Sort of electro indie rock pop I guess, they remind me a bit of The Presets. Great to dance to or crank up in your car. The lead singer Alexis Krauss reminds me of the lead from Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O. Gotta love that studded leather jacket. Never goes out of style does it? You can check out some of her fav things on the MTV blog.

They have two great albums, Reign of Terror from '12 and Treats from '10. I'm totally addicted to listening to A/B Machines, even though it's got the most repetitive lyrics. 'Got my A machines on the table, got my B machines in the draw.' It's like I've got some pretty great stuff here but I've still got more stashed below. Love it! Born To Lose, Comeback Kid, and Tell 'Em are also pretty flippin great!

Sleigh Bells are playing the Big Day Out not too far away this month, jealous! Can't wait to hear more.

Sweet Sounds Of Saturdays - The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

It's been a long long long while I know, but I can tell you need some sweet sounds this Saturday.

If you haven't seen The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, well hurry flippin' up! Cause it's absolutely awesome! I found the book a few months ago and obsessively read it in about 2 days. It's so good I might consider reading it a few more times, which I never do.

The music in this movie is awesome. As soon as it finished I found the album and bought it. It's very 80s, but that's what's great about. After reading the book and watching the movie, and now hearing the sound track, I feel more complete somehow.

Of note is David Bowie's Heroes and The Smiths Asleep. I have to admit I never thought I'd like The Smiths, but that day has dawned. It seemed like such a popular thing to do after watching 500 Days of Summer. I think you need someone (like this movie) to explain to you how great they are. I just bought The Pixies and John Lennon albums too, what's happening to me? Have I reached the age when I can't listen to new music, like most 50 year olds? Eeeeek

Anyways, if you were the kind of kid who made mix tapes, noticed the small things, and decorated the wall at every party, well read/watch/listen to The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and be forever happy.

Sydney Antique Centre

Had a little holiday in Sydney last week. Thought I'd share my trip to the Sydney Antique Centre with you.

It's one massive adventure land filled with wonderful treasures. Probably the most fun I've had in a long time, will certainly be back. If you love anything old or weird or collectable or fun this place is for you! Its at 531 South Dowling St, Surry Hills. Love Sydney!

New Zealand Holiday Roundup - Milford Sound

My last week was spent staying at Te Anau and visiting Milford Sound. The town of Te Anau is quite sleepy, but there is a nice selection of restaurants and even a small cinema!

If you are wanting to visit Milford Sound, staying in Te Anau is the way to go. The sandflies are relentless in Milford, you can't even eat outside. Bring the aeroguard! Te Anau has a nice little lake, which you can swim in when its summer.

Milford Sound is so popular for good reason. The rather dangerous 2 hour drive from Te Anau through the national park is dotted with beautiful places to stop and take photos or do treks. The water is so clear and clean that there is one place on the drive to Milford you can actually fill up your water bottle with fresh spring water and drink it straight, tastes amazing!

I took the Jucy Cruise around the Sound and saw a few seals. Jucy was a good option, I'd recommend it! There are about 6 other companies you can go with but the boats are massive and not as nice. I went in summer so the drive wasn't quite so bad but if you where going in winter with ice on the road and the threat of avalances, I'd only go on a tour, scary!
