My new blog is called Habitual Homebody and I hope you will follow me over there! Be sure to update your feeds so you won't miss anything because I'm not transferring my feed over and I'll loose you. This is my new feed address.

Habitual Homebody

It took me a long time to come up with a blog name, but I knew I wanted the word home in it because being at home is my favorite place to be and I totally am a homebody. It just felt right.

And with the huge rush of recent Bloglovin follows because of this, I decided to just transfer my Curious Pug Bloglovin feed to my new Habitual Homebody Bloglovin feed. House Hunting Part 2 - We made an offer

In our online house hunt, we've passed over this house numerous times because the main photo they were using looked dark (hellooooo haven't they heard of Photoshop?). But in order to be thorough, Brian clicked on it and after a while for lack of better phrase, became obsessed with it which in turn made me obsessed with it. It's absolutely beautiful inside. Redone with updated appliances and additions. The part over the garage there is the bedroom and runs the entire width of the house. The bedrooms are huge, especially compared to what we've been seeing and the house sits on almost an acre. And the house looked better in person than in the photos, which seems to be the trend. It even had our bonus sun room and central air. All the items on our must have and bonus list were checked off with this house so we decided to make an offer! We couldn't find anything negative about the house, even though it sits behind an elementary school, adding a vinyl fence just against that end would fix that. And the other 3 sides would be a wooden fence to keep the dogs in.

So we became obsessed Wednesday. We saw the house Thursday. Wrote up the offer Friday. And heard back on Saturday, which was my birthday. So if our offer was accepted and we got this house, this would be the best birthday present ever. But we left Friday night after making up our offer not feeling very confident because there was another couple making an offer as well. Having been on the market for 160 days, why the hell would they find this house NOW exactly when we did? Just our luck.

But...
The sellers went with the other couple who made a lower offer. I had no idea that could actually happen. Our realtor was just as confused and upset. Someone must have known someone or was acting all shady on the other couples behalf for some reason. We were pretty upset just because that's not how you play the game. We clearly gave a way better offer but they purposefully went with the lower one. And we know that the other couple had the same type of loan as us. It could have been ours! I don't want to talk more about it other than that, but I'm already over it. I knew we had to have a heart break in order to continue on in finding the house meant for us. Having my parents here for my birthday made me get over it quicker and feel better about it.

My birthday was yesterday and if you told me even two years ago that once I go past 30, I will start having these weird, out of nowhere feelings of wanting to have a baby, I would have laughed in your face till I cried. But seriously, what the hell? It's like these crazy instinctual mom hormones or something kick the fuck in, giving me baby fever. I was never totally against having children, but I felt strongly about waiting a really long time before having any, much to our parents dismay (tough cookies to them!). And I suppose that really long time has finally come to an end. I was (and still kind of am) incredibly selfish and wanted to get that out of my system before having to give up my life as I know it. Because face it, life will be changed FOREVER once you have a kid and I wanted to be sure that we were good and ready.

Perhaps it's my advanced age (kidding, I know I'm not that old), or the fact that we are finally going to be buying a house this year, but all of the sudden my ovaries have woken up like the little Sleeping Beauties they are (or Sleeping Bitches, whatever you wanna call them) and are making me realize that I actually do want to start a family. And having actually voiced that to Brian, and having him not freak out, kinda made it official that we are on the same page and want to have a kid. When though, who knows? But at least the decision has been made. The indecision about whether to have a baby or not has been horrible. I guess that's all a part of growing up.

Big blog-related changes are coming! I'm moving and starting over.

After a whole lot of thought and double and triple and quadruple checking myself, I have decided that I am going to move to Wordpress. I am beyond excited for this... BUT... I am going to be starting over with a completely new blog!

This wasn't an easy decision to make. I've been blogging on The Curious Pug for over 3 years and have been working really hard to build a readership and community much like the one I have now. And this place also holds sentimental value to me, as you've followed me along through the ups and downs of job hunting, successes, a horrific tragedy, a cross country move, and more. But as much as I have grown to absolutely love this place like it were my own baby, I want a fresh start and want to feel inspired to blog again, like really just sit there and write. As cliche as it sounds, I feel like I have outgrown The Curious Pug. I mean, have you actually seen posts from the archives? Boy, how things have changed! But I don't want to delete them because it is what it is. Plus, there's been changes in my life since I started blogging here that reflect that...

-I don't have my precious baby pug Cyrus anymore, whom this blog was named after

-My blogging voice and style has changed (for the better I hope!) and I don't want to bring over my old horrendous posts from the beginning. Yuck.
-My life is different now than it was 3 years ago

-Blogger gets on my damn nerves more than half of the time

-It's time for a change

-I've been wanting to move to Wordpress for the last year anyway

-I'm ready to take my blogging to the next level

So I am NOT quitting blogging. I am just relocating. And I hope you will follow me there. I will be making the move sometime in the next few weeks and I wanted to give you a heads up so you won't feel like I'm abandoning you over here. And I won't be deleting this blog or making it private because I am a big gooey sentimental fool, and it would kill me to do so. I would love to have you join me through the next chapter of my life: buying a house and eventually beginning the process of starting a family, while still sharing my usual 'lifestyle' and crafty posts.

Also I thought I'd mention that I plan on continuing to have our monthly crochet alongs. Crochet has become a big part of my life and I really enjoy those and love connecting with those of you who do too and inspiring others to learn how to crochet. So as far as blog features go, that one will definitely be coming with me. And I really have no idea what else I will be bringing with me because that's the whole point of starting over! I'm hoping to come up with fresh new content that will be a more personal reflection of my life.

I will be keeping the same twitter account, but possibly changing my name to match that of my blog. So please bare with me when I begin promoting it and tweeting about the move. I want as many people to know about my move as possible so they won't be confused when they come here and find it abandoned.

And now for the million dollar question: What will my new blog be named? I will reveal that at a later date!

House Hunting Part 1

The house hunt has begun and I'm bringing you with me! Yesterday we arranged to see 3 houses with our realtor, who is really great by the way. She showed us some of the houses we added to our favorites list recently and as fun as it is to see these houses, there always seems to be at least 1 thing that we really don't like. Of course I know that it will be always be like this, it's just a matter of time until we find one we fall in love with, despite its flaws.

House #1 had a beautifully manicured 1 acre yard with a pond in the backyard and geese. LOTS of geese. But there are so many geese because of that pond, that there's poop everywhere even on the front porch. You probably couldn't walk barefoot anywhere without stepping in a pile of green dookie. I like geese and it seems like it would be very pretty to see everyday but I couldn't handle the poop up on our porch or drive way. And the dogs would totally go ape shit crazy every time they went outside. Also, the bathroom fixtures were super old. I've never seen a tub so shallow before. But out of all the houses we saw, this was something that could be easily changed and in our control. The other 2 houses had things that were out of control that we didn't like so much. But some of the positive things about this house was that it had a nice layout between the kitchen, dining room and living room, there was a sunroom, central air, and a 2 car garage and was in a quiet neighborhood.

House #2 we had driven past last weekend on our drive-by run. It is absolutely beautiful outside and was equally as great on the inside only it is located on a super busy road and you can hear the cars whizzing by even with the windows closed. Having to pull out on that road everyday for work would be enough to give me a panic attack. And I imagined skidding down the driveway in the snow and not being able to stop before crashing into traffic. That sounds overly dramatic, but it was pretty darn steep! The purple tiles in one of the bathrooms were also a negative but again, something that could be fixed with time. But amongst its pluses were a brand new amazingly awesome kitchen, a sunroom with a really nice wooden deck attached, and nice sized bedrooms.

House #3 was a 1 level ranch on a dead end road so there was no traffic ever going by unless it was from a neighbor. But when you walked into the house, it stunk of dog piss! The owner is a dog breeder and handler and she currently has 5 dogs living there. I can only imagine the damage Monty would do from smelling all these dogs! It also had a really weird drop tub....which I've never seen before. You have to step down into the tub like a whole foot. I know if we have a kid to bathe my back would break in half bending down to scrub them or I could just lie on the floor flat on my stomach, hang my arms down over the edge into the tub and wash them that way? And the house was also located near a shooting range so you heard guns firing every few minutes. But what I really loved were the views, the huge yard, the pool, the finished basement, and the amazingly HUGE dog run. I'm talking doggie daycare size haha! But the dog run took up most of the space in the back yard, and as much as I love my dogs, I don't want to be that in love with them, you know?

But if I had to pick a house based on just the house it self and nothing else, house #2 wins this round. But we still have a long ways to go and many more houses to see before we make an offer.

February's crochet along link up

February's crochet along project was to make your choice of Valentine's related items. I chose to make a cupcake using the free pattern on BitterSweet. I'm kinda bummed with how my cupcake came out though. It's not very round on top and I added an extra row of increases because for some reason the pink yarn was thinner than the beige and it was too small when it came to stitching the two pieces together. It looks like a droopy mess but oh well. I'm looking forward to seeing yours!

My review

This story takes place in Antarctica where a group of Australians are living to research the glaciers. A group of bad guys come and create a gruesome scene and blame it on Luke, the main character. The group of attackers are from China and have come to Antarctica for something, but what, no one knows. But eventually the Australians figure it out and it's a fight for their lives and the lives of millions around the world.

The story was very fast paced and and full of action. The author did a lot of research about Antarctica and living on a glacier and it shows through in her writing making it quite believable. For a free ebook, this is a pretty good read! And there were no typos, which typically run rampant in free ebooks.

The time my Kindle BETRAYED my trust!

To say I love my Kindle is an understatement. It's the original kind with e-ink. It's probably one of my most prized possessions. Anyways, last Saturday I worked overtime and brought my Kindle to listen to an audiobook (The Gunslinger by Stephen King. I finally finished it after almost a year). After about an hour or so of listening, I took my ear buds out because I was going to get up and go to the cafeteria, when I STILL HEARD MY KINDLE TALKING. Apparently, I didn't push in the cable far enough so EVERYONE in my row (or the entire building for all I know) must have heard the damn story spilling out from my Kindle's speakers. I was mortified! I still heard the story through my ear buds too so the cable must have been half in/half out or something. After my face stopped flushing I peeked around at who I could have interrupted. Now, everyone seems to be pretty laid back so I didn't think anyone would be mad but I felt horrible for imposing my noises onto someone else while they worked. A few people nearby had their own earbuds in so they probably didn't hear anything. But there were a few people that I couldn't tell if they had music on or not, so I figured oh well! Too late now. Why didn't someone tell me!?

My next thought was, what if I was listening to 50 Shades of Grey (if there even is one).

So now I'm super paranoid anytime I listen to my Kindle or iPod. I make sure to double and triple check that I shoved the cable in as far as it will go. I've even taken my ear buds out while something was playing and held the device up to my ear just to be sure.

Heed my warning!

Remember this? I'm still working on it! Here's prior progress reports: 1 & 2. It's taking forever because I keep putting it off and I get discouraged at knowing just how much I still have left to do...but I hate leaving projects unfinished so I'm doomed to keep working on it for another few months.

Our first Pawalla Box: A subscription box for pets!

I was incredibly lucky in December. I won about 4 giveaways and one of those was for a month subscription to Pawalla, a pet subscription box! I was so excited about this because look at all that stuff! Out of all the pet subscription boxes out there, this one seems to have more products for the price. Here's what we got:

I'm excited to try the Petchup and the Carnivore Crunch and I already have about 30 bags of the Wagatha's treats only because I also supply those in my shop (which has now been moved to eBay). And we could always use more poop bags. Our dogs don't eat wet food (their farts are already deadly enough) but I'd like to give them a spoonful every now and then as a treat. As for the toy, there is always room in their toy box for a new toy. It's really cute how it resembles a balloon animal.

I didn't get a good photo of the dogs eating or playing with their new stuff because they wouldn't hold still enough to take a clear shot! But I think once I start working I'd like to sign us up for a few months of this subscription box.
