SHOPPING SPOTLIGHT: VANITY FAIR SPORT BRA

You know the saying, "when you look good, you feel good?" I think a similar idea applies to working out! I'm not a big fan of the gym--the sweating, baggy clothes, and feeling wholly unkempt are usually a pretty good deterrent for me, to be honest. That being said, I know it's something I *should* be doing, so I find little tricks to make myself a little more motivated! For me, having the right equipment is essential when working out, and I don't mean equipping yourself with free weights, a treadmill, or yoga mat (though those do help sometimes)! Above all, regardless of exercise routine, you need the right outfit, and every good outfit starts with a good foundation.
One of the most difficult articles of clothing for me to find as a plus size woman, is a good sport bra that functions well, while still being aesthetically pleasing. Enter the new sport bra from Vanity Fair, which is the definition of form meets function! The bras are available with and without an underwire (I prefer with), made of moisture-wicking material, and have thick, supportive straps to minimize bounce. I have hit the gym without the right sport bra and definitely paid the price, so I'll definitely be stocking up on these!

I love the bright, vibrant color! It's small touches like these that set these bras apart from your typical black and gray!

In addition to a great sport bra, I also swear by great pair of workout shoes, a cute towel for all that sweating, and always, always remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

REAL TALK: PERIOD EMERGENCY KITS

The period emergency kits that I've seen have always been geared toward teens and tweens, but believe me, shark week can hit anyone who isn't prepared! I thought it would be fun to assemble a chic, simple and compact period emergency kit for the modern woman on the go--check out all my essentials below!

First and foremost, you need tampons sized for on-the-go. For ages, my favorite has been the Tampax Pocket Pearl tampons due to their small size and portability. They're also really discreet, which is key! For those of you possibly concerned about a smaller tampon not being as effective, rest assured--the Pocket Pearl has the same Pearl tampon you know and love, just in travel-friendly packaging! To use, just open the wrapper, pull the stick until you hear it click, and use as you normally would! :) I always keep around 4 tampons in my kit. In my experience, you should have enough to cover you for at least a day just in case something unexpected comes up and you can't get home or to a store.

My other kit essentials include a change of underwear (self-explanatory), a resealable bag for transporting soiled clothes back home to wash, hand sanitizer and flushable wipes (just in case your bathroom situation isn't ideal), a pain reliever like ibuprofen and a portable hand warmer in the event that cramps hit, chocolate (because it makes everything better), a tide pen (just in case), and a couple hair ties since there's nothing worse than struggling in the bathroom with your hair in your face!
I love that all of these fit into a compact bag smaller than most wallets--the small size makes it easy to be prepared no matter that handbag you're using!

BEAT THE HEAT

Who else is super excited for the long weekend coming up?! I know I ammmmm! I thought it would be really fun to share what I'll be wearing to survive the heat wave while still looking cute this July 4th weekend! My beat-the-heat essentials always include shorts and a tank top, but I love throwing on a "third piece" or something to add a little color and interest to the look! One of summer temps. This version from Simply Be is the perfect holiday weekend topper with its super bright colors and fun mix of patterns! I love that the sleeves look great rolled up or left down, adding more versatility to the outfit. This would make a great swim cover up, too!

UNITE FOR A CAUSE WITH TAMPAX

Earlier this month, I got the amazing opportunity to partner with Tampax to donate 40,000 tampons to the charity of my choice in honor of Menstrual Hygiene Day! Tampax partnered with several influencers to donate a total of one million tampons to various charities and organizations focused on providing much needed items to women in need. Incredible, right?!

My organization of choice was Working Wardrobes, which focuses on getting men and women back into the workforce by giving them the necessary tools to do so, including clothes, career guidance, and daily essentials, including feminine hygiene products!

This opportunity came about in an effort to raise awareness around Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28th) and the challenges faced by women around the world during their periods! Can you imagine not only hustling day in and day out to find a job to support yourself (and possibly your family!), but having to do so during your period when you don't have easy access to tampons and pads? Many of us (myself included!) take easy access to menstrual hygiene products for granted, but for many women around the world, limited access to tampons and pads is their reality.

HAUTE FOX

It's officially hotter than heck in So Cal, and I'm dressing appropriately!
I'm clearly still in my "shoulder out" phase, so I'm totally in love with this maxi top from Haute Fox! It's is a women's contemporary and plus size brand which, at the moment, just does wholesale but is available at retailers like Forever 21, Fashion to Figure, Agaci, and Fashion Nova. I love that their products are designed and manufactured in LA. So amazing!

I opted to pair the top with denim shorts from Torrid, which happen to have lace details that line up with the slits on the top perfectly! I kept it casual with a pair of booties and this super past season bag (I'll link a something similar below!).

I've been taking care of some family things and needed a bit of a digital detox as I try to balance wedding planning, blogging, and of course, my day job! BUSTING THE ONE SIZE FITS ALL MYTH

As a plus size woman, trust me when I say, the concept of "One Size Fits All" items is a Total. Joke. I mean honestly, are you really trying to sell me on the idea that an item will fit the same on my size 20 body as it does on a size 2? Common sense begs to differ! A good fit is all about knowing what your body needs to look and feel its best. In fact, one of the questions I'm most commonly asked is how to look great on a budget. My answer is always to find items that fit well! To me, you can wear a $5 shirt and you'll look like a million bucks as long as the fit is right. Conversely, you can spend $500 on a designer jacket but if it doesn't fit well, it won't be worth the money spent!
To really debunk the OSFA myth, I thought it'd be hilarious to show you guys my trying on (or attempting to try on) a one-size item I found while out shopping last weekend! Just a heads up, these are definitely not the most "flattering" photos you'll ever see of me, and even if I don't usually care about whether an item is flattering, I think you can tell that I'm just plain uncomfortable because the pieces just don't fit right!

This makes for a pretty cute crop top, but ya'll...it's supposed to be a full length tank top! LOL. It doesn't even cover my belly button. *facepalm*

The "One Size Fits All" sizing failure applies to many other things as well--hats, jewelry, and, believe it or not, feminine hygiene pads. Didn't see that one coming, did you?!

Did you know that 60% of women are wearing the wrong pad size? No wonder 80% of women experience leaks during their period! Nearly two-thirds of women have needed to buy new underwear because of period leaks. Talk about a serious money-flying-away-emoji moment! I had sort of given in to the whole period leak situation and chalked it up to being one of the things we women have to deal with, but that is definitely not the case!

VACATION STYLE

Hello my loves! I'm very much in the spring swing of things, and definitely have vacation on the brain! I haven't stopped looking at flights, destinations, and staycation ideas--I definitely have the travel bug! What that translates for me fashion-wise is definitely a lot of colors, breezy fabrics, and playing with shapes and prints!
This stripes-on-stripes look is entirely from Simply Be, and I'm kind of obsessed! I'm not typically a fan of pants, but the super wide leg style is almost skirt-like, which I'm really loving right now. The fabrication is also super breezy, making them so comfortable to wear! I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten on these pants already--they're a crowd pleaser for sure!

Since there's no better time to experiment with fashion than on vacation, I opted to go all out with the stripes with this striped, tie-waisted top. I love the way the tie gathers the top and creates an almost flared effect--so chic! When mixing prints, it can be difficult to get the right mix of colors and patterns, so a no-brainer way of styling the trend is to stick with a similar color palette and pattern style. I love the way this turned out!
When I travel, I always carry a ton of stuff with me, so I opted for this bright, embellished floral tote bag, which is roomy enough for beach towels, a camera, a bottle of water, and all the essentials! For shoes, I opted to keep it simple in a pair of low-heeled rose gold sandals. Love the way this look came out!

BEHIND THE SCENES: STITCH FIX CURVY STYLE COUNCIL!

As I'm sure you guys know by now, I've teamed up with Stitch Fix on the launch of their plus size offerings! (If you haven't seen it yet, head to my first post here!) In addition to getting to shoot on set with them in February, Kristine, Alexandra and I also got to go behind the scenes to check out their insanely cool office in San Francisco and their awesome distribution center where we got to try our hands at packing a Fix! (I'll just let you know now, I don't think I'd cut it there! haha)
This trip was really an eye opening experience that made me fall in love with the company. I got to see first hand how passionate their team was about launching plus sizes and most importantly, doing it right. We talked all about fit, the service itself, and even the process to get people signed up (who knew so much thought went into the signup form and style survey?!).
Speaking of which, if you haven't signed up yet, you're missing out! I've already received two fixes and have a third one scheduled. Not going to lie, I might be a little addicted. :P It's just so easy having someone else do the heavy lifting to find you the perfect item!

With my bae Alex at our November Stitch Fix visit! The offices are seriously insaaaaane.

Loved being able to see what spring trends the Stitch Fix team was focusing on! They totally hit the mark with the lacy, romantic styles, colorful Havana-inspired pieces, and beachy neutral vibes!

One of my favorite parts of the trip was getting to see the Stitch Fix warehouse, dubbed "The Hizzy!" Kristine, Alex and I got to pull and pack a fix, and see everyone in action! It was so busy and cool. Unlike most warehouses, this one was set up like a giant closet--can you say dream come true?!

During our February visit, we finally got to play with the clothes, try pieces on, and give feedback on the fit. I loved being able to talk about the issues we had with different styles, and find out from the fit experts themselves how items could be tweaked to solve common problems like sagging, bagging, and pulling!

After our fit feedback sessions, we got to hit the town for a fun street style photo shoot wearing some of our favorite pieces from the preview we got!

A DAY IN LA WITH CATHERINE'S

A few weeks ago, I got to play tourist in my own area with Catherine's and my fellow blogger babes Rachel of Lovely in LA, and Runa of Glam by Runa! We all headed to LA, and got ready for the day at the gorgeous PaliHouse West Hollywood. Green juices, fresh fruit, avocado toast, some seriously crazy bacon were the perfect start to a day of adventure!

This striped cold shoulder maxi is so insanely comfortable, and I love how much the bold stripes pop! The best part is that the wide straps make it totally bra-friendly. The studded lace up wedges are so walkable while still being totally cute!

For our day of fun exploring Los Angeles, I opted for a casual denim look! I love this blousy top--the embroidery and tassels are so boho! I love the dropped hem on the ankle jeans, too. So summery! Of course, when in LA, bloggers must stop at LACMA! It's such a stunning installation. I need to come back here at night!

For our last stop for the day, we went to Santa Monica Pier for some fun and sunset photos! I love how colorful and vibrant everything was! What better look to wear to the pier than a beachy, colorful printed maxi? The silver, braided strap wedges were the perfect shoes for a sunset stroll!

The following night, we headed to a West Hollywood institution, Cecconi's, for a delicious dinner and preview of the Catherine's spring line! It was so much fun catching up with my LA babes and getting to see the collection in person! I opted for another cold shoulder maxi from Catherine's spring line--I loooove the bright coral shade!

SPRING CLEANING: UNDERWEAR DRAWER REVAMP

It's kiiiiind of embarrassing to talk about, but one of the most neglected parts of my wardrobe is definitely my underwear drawer. I'll be the first to admit it--I don't always fold my underwear (can you say laaaazy), and honestly, I hang onto some pairs way longer than I should! I realized this a couple weeks ago when I grabbed a pair in the morning and spent the rest of the day pulling them up because the elastic was already so worn they weren't staying up anymore! Super awkward, and very annoying. It was then that I decided to get my act together and do a total overhaul of my underwear drawer. Kohl's was awesome enough to send me a gift card to stock up from their seriously extensive collection of panties, so stock up I did!

The first step was to go through the drawer and toss the items that really needed to go. Anything with holes, damaged or worn down elastic, and anything dingy or overly faded got the boot! Next, I stocked up on the underwear I knew I needed to replace! Most important were the nude and black ones that I wear to death. I love that Kohl's has so many options. They have something to address every concern! I even found and picked up a couple no-wedgie styles that I can't wait to test out!

Next, I picked up on some cute, fun styles with lace and print details! The pink and purple animal print pair is my favorite. After all, every girl's got to have a couple that make her smile just looking at them!

I even found panties that are designed for working out in! How awesome are these Sporties from Jockey? They have mesh panels for breathability and are made with moisture-wicking fabric. Genius!

Use this method to fold all your underwear, then place them fold side up in your drawer so you can see all your underwear at the same time! Since my drawers are on the bigger side, I opted to place them in a box within the drawer to keep them organized.

A LOOK FOR LESS

As much as fashion and shopping are a priority in my life, spending an arm and a leg on an outfit isn't necessary to accomplish a chic look! Every. Single. Piece. in this look is super budget-friendly, and the whole look is anchored by these insanely affordable Riders by Lee jeans!

A great pair of mid-wash skinny jeans is a wardrobe staple. They're seasonless, and go from casual to dressy with the turn of a hat! I love the light whiskering on this pair of skinny jeans from Riders by Lee, and the leg-skimming fit and comfortable stretch fabric make these totally timeless. At less than $20 a pair, these jeans are the perfect find for a budget-minded fashionista!

I opted to style these jeans in a slightly dressier look. This cape blazer and laser-cut lace top are simple and chic, and I love the way the shearling clutch and animal print heels add texture and pattern to the outfit! As an added bonus, every item in this look is $25 or less!

You can just as easily style these jeans with an oversized sweater and riding boots for a cozy fall look, or with a bright floral blouse and sandals for a completely different, casual spring vibe. When shopping on a budget, opting for pieces that you can wear in multiple ways is essential. It's the best way to ensure that you'll get a low cost per wear!

SHOPPING SPOTLIGHT: CURVY SENSE REVIEW

I'm always on the hunt for budget-friendly plus size clothing that's trend-driven, so when Curvy Sense reached out about styling a few pieces and reviewing their products, I was more than happy to!Curvy Sense is an LA-based plus size clothing brand that focuses on trendy clothing at affordable prices. They design, fit, source, and manufacture the majority of their products in house, which I think is amazing! Their line runs the gamut from slouchy sweaters (my fave), to distressed denim and bodycon, party dresses.
Their price point is in line with most other fast fashion lines--think tops in the $15-$25 range and dresses just slightly above that. For the low price, I think the quality is good! To check out three looks that I tried out from them, click through!

This slouchy sweater is my favorite item from this review! The lace up shoulder is so killer, and the slouchy cut with vents is such a chic detail. I've also already worn this skirt several times--I love it with a white tee and my black leather moto jacket. So perfect! I love that it's a true mini length. For this look, I opted for distressed jeans in a dusty rose hue, and this super slouchy, striped dolman sweater. The jeans are a great fit, and this is coming from someone who usually has problems with pants! The distressing is perfectly placed, and the color is gorgeous for spring. This third look is probably the most out-of-comfort-zone for me since I don't typically wear bodycon dresses but the sparkly embellishments were enough to convince me to give this dress a try! I love the sparkly details so much--they pick up so much light but aren't over the top. This blazer is also a classic piece, and I love how it looks draped over shoulders for a date night look. LUXURY DENIM

Luxury denim might sound a little counter intuitive--after all, denim is one of the most down-to-earth, accessible fabrics! Every once in a while, though, a brand comes along that does denim so well, wearing it is an experience, not just an outfit. People ask me all the time what my favorite denim brands are, and I always have a list that I ramble off. Well, I'll be adding a new brand to top of that list, because I recently got to try out SLINK Jeans and they are easily some of the most amazing jeans I've ever worn!

The perfectly body-hugging cut and stretch fabric ensure that there is no sagging, even after a long day, and the multiple choices of washes, cuts, and distressing mean there will be a perfect pair of SLINK jeans for any occasion. Upon trying out the jeans, I dug into the history of the brand a bit and I was not at all surprised to see that SLINK Jeans is actually the brainchild of one of the co-founders of Joe's Jeans, Albert Dahan. The attention to detail when it comes to fit and design is evident and the quality of the denim is amaaazing. These are some of the most velvety jeans I've ever worn! The jeans are currently available in sizes 10-24, which I think is great. Please do note that the sizes run large, so definitely consult the size chart and size down from your "normal size" for a curve-hugging fit! For my smaller curvy babes and inbetweenies, don't despair! The brand has plans to launch smaller curvy sizes in April. ;)

On top of designing some seriously brilliant jeans, I love what SLINK stands for. SLINK is actually an acronym for Sexy, Lovable, Intelligent, Noticeable, and Kind, and the brand absolutely embodies those adjectives. Their message has consistently been body positive, with an emphasis on all bodies being beautiful. They even have a plus size model search starting on February 1st that will give one aspiring model the chance to shoot with Slink Jeans and sign with Bicoastal Management. The search's focus is not only on being beautiful on the outside, but also being beautiful on the inside--being empowering, having a standout personality and rocking a love-your-curves attitude. A LITTLE LEG

Showing a little leg never hurt anybody! ;)

Currently in love with this dress/tunic from new-to-me brand, Kari Lyn! The off shoulder design and swingy shape are so comfy and cozy. The Kayleigh knit off shoulder tunic is a great length, and on my shorter torso, works as a mini dress! It would be perfect for my petite plus girls, or great to wear as a tunic over jeans or leggings! I have no problems showing a little leg so I opted to style it as a mini dress, and I love the effortless, sexy vibe the off-shoulder neckline and mid-thigh length lend to this outfit. If a longer length is more your style, the Anna knit off shoulder dress is the exact same design but in a knee-length design!
If you're new to the Kari Lyn brand, I definitely suggest checking it out! There are great workwear pieces, like this printed wrap dress, which I'm also currently wearing to death! All the pieces are set at a great price point, so I'm definitely considering picking up a few more items to try out!

I can't believe I'm just finding out that Torrid launched some seriously awesome plus size active wear! While I don't care too much about all that "New Year, New You" stuff that's floating around (no offense if you do!), I'm all about having cute workout options available if you want them! I hit the gym semi-regularly and buying gym clothes is often a struggle. Personally, one of the hardest things for me to shop for is sports bras. As a C cup, I don't quite fit into plus size sports bras, but as a 40-42 band, I also can't fit into straight sizes. I'd been wearing some Old Navy XXL sports bras for a while, but I am just not really feeling them as I'd like a bit more support than they offer!

Below are a few of my favorite pieces from Torrid's active wear line--I can't wait to get my hands on these!

I think I'm most excited about this sports bra! Most plus size underwire sports bras start at a D cup, so the fact that these go from a 38B to a 48DDD is super exciting for me! I definitely want this in every color! :D

I neeeeeed the space dye sports bra in my life. I mean, the band says Wake Up, Kick Ass, Repeat. My only gripe is that it doesn't have those molded cups, which I'm used to having in my sports bras and prefer to have because of the added shape and support I feel like they give. No one wants to have squashed boobs while working out! Still plan on giving it a try though!

I've never really worn girly/feminine sportswear (I like to feel like a beast while working out >_^ ), but I've got to say, this is probably pretty close! I love the allover floral print and coral piping. I've got to say, probably my favorite thing about Torrid's active line is that it's completely unapologetic. No hiding behind all-black everything. The pieces make a statement while still being functional. Love it!

BUNDLED AND COZY

Hi babes! It's definitely taking a turn for the colder in California--it's in the 40's! And rainy! What?! That's insanely cold for Southern California. I am excited though, that I get to bust out my coats and cold weather gear!I'm currently gravitating toward coats in moody, rich colors, and this asymmetrical zip coat from Ellos fits the bill perfectly! If you aren't familiar with Ellos (this coat is my first item from them), they're a recent addition to the US market, and are part of the Full Beauty family of brands (Woman Within, Roaman's, Jessica London, Swimsuits for All, etc). They have some seriously great pieces, and I can imagine stocking my entire work wardrobe from their offerings! Definitely check them out if you're looking for some staple wardrobe pieces!

Happy New Year, Babes!
As we roll headfirst into 2017 (and THANK GOODNESS 2016 is over, because my heart couldn't take much more), I thought I would share some of my favorite pieces and products from 2016! These are the things I gravitated to the most, whether it's the new leather jacket that has quickly become a wardrobe staple, the cult-favorite, high-coverage foundation that I can't get enough of, or my favorite vampy winter lipcolor, I've got the deets below! :)
# 10. First up are these wide calf, over the knee boots! I've been styling them constantly and loooove that they're so affordable.

# 9. Sweater dresses, like this one from Torrid, have been on repeat for the past several months! I can't get over how comfortable but put together they look. They're also perfect for pairing with those OTK boots!

# 8: ALL the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks! There is a color for everyone, and I'm seriously obsessed with the formula and ingredients! I'm pretty much over matte lips (blasphemy, I know), and these are the most perfect, long-wearing, high-pigment lipsticks ever! Also, Beetroot is the absolute best color, hands down. I dare you to fight me on this.

# 7: The Tom Ford perfume of my dreams, which I finally splurged on during Sephora's VIB sale! It smells crisp, clean, and exactly like an Italian seaside vacation--I can't get enough of it! Mandarino Di Amalfi is also a great runner up, and is slightly more citrus-y!

# 6: Allllllll the sheet masks. I got into regular sheet masking several months ago, and my favorites are the $2 sheet masks from Skinfood (so affordable, and they often have sales where they're buy 5, get 5 free) but another great brand is TonyMoly, which you can order from Sephora and Ulta, but are the best deal in bulk from Amazon!

#5: Staying in line with skincare, a 2016 introduction that I'm obsessed with is the Clarisonic Mia Fit. It's super portable for when I travel, and I actually prefer the "delicate" brush head that this comes with! My skin feels so incredibly clean after, and all my expensive skin care works much for effectively!

# 4: This super buttery, soft, but still substantial leather jacket is seriously one of my most-worn items in my closet. In terms of cost per wear, this is definitely one of my best purchases! The one I got is straight size (XXL) and no longer available, but a similar item in plus is available here!

# 3: This Chanel bag is not exactly an "affordable" favorite, but I would be remiss not to include it. I've been using this caviar leather Coco Handle a ton this year, and it's held up SO well (and it better, for the price!). While I know not everyone can or wants to spend a lot of money on a designer bag, this purchase made me so happy and I smile whenever I use it!

# 2: In case you can't tell by my skincare favorites above, I struggled a bit with skin this year. I was suffering from hormonal acne (yay!), so my light/med coverage foundations just weren't cutting it. I did lotssss of research on Sephora, and also at the recommendation of my boo Sarah, I tried out the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. Let's just say, LIFE CHANGED. Full coverage but not cakey if applied with a damp Beauty Blender, and so, so long wearing. Obsessed!
