clever guy, entertaining speaker, and while he makes some very insightful observations, clearly doesn't yet get (the big picture of) business.

There are many good reasons why inferior software from a vendor is chosen over superior in-house alternatives. Clueless managers aren't always the reason. More likely, its because no matter how clever the solution, no matter how bright the programmers, in-house, bespoke software, SHOULD BE AVOIDED LIKE THE PLAGUE (unless you are a tech company and it is your competitive advantage).

but then that doesn't make for as entertaining an anecdote as steak and strippers...

Making D&D Maps with high-ascii characters is a good start, padawan (don't forget to change the ribbon and make sure you have enough of tractor-feed paper for your dot-matrix)

Hey Guys! You seemed to have gathered a bunch of great speakers but unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the conference. :-( So I was wondering if you were gonna put the videos and/or the slides somewhere? Thanks!

Robert, if by your alma mater you mean his talk at Concordia, I don't know whether that one was taped or not.

The CUSEC talk though was taped and once I'm done processing all the videos (this will take quite a while since I'm doing it in my spare time) I will be sending the talk to the free software foundation to host so eventually it should show up online.
