sittin on this one so long it has started to fester
but better late than never

so smirk is the musical creative arm for the one man multi-national corporation that is brandon wolcott
is there anything this man cannot do?
the short answer is no. the long answer is really long and involves a shady arms brokering with a persian state and a failed commissioned collaboration with the famed antarctic penguin orchestra (some dispute over who was allowed wear black & white on the cover art which resulted in his deportation from the great tundra and the entire project being canned).

this guy can pop and lock with the best of 'em. new york rumor mill has it that smirk turned down a lead dance roll in britney's 'toxic' tour to focus his endeavors on sound design for the big stage and the avant-gastric-alchemy exploration of dance music.

thankfully for the new york music scene he stayed & one of the finest all round talents is really coming into his own these past couple of years. currently on tour in the balkans and eastern europe smirk has been turning heads with his dj and live sets all year, not to mention the wonderful, unforgettable production that was and everyone laughed back in june.

this year has seen him release a wonderful long player on archipel even beauty gets older and rock dancefloors from new york to berlin with his collaboration on 'the therapist' with good old friends wolf + lamb

so here is his live set from this months unsound festival in krakow, poland.
this same festival is going to annex new york next year and bring the moritz von oswald trio to the eastern seaboard.....going to be epic...if you havent heard their vertical ascent release this year, get it,,,,,,, the evolution of electronic music as it morphs with the the ghosts of coltraine and davis.

smirk's set is full of his trade mark wonderful twists and turns and riddled with his unique sense of playfulness and humor.

........yeah fuck the lot of them ...... not a time to warm the heart of my cooling faith in humanity

... but not the right time to hand in the playing cards yet though ........
mega tough recovery ..... physically and emotionally .... with some nerve damage to the right ear and a permanent scar in the form of constant pitch from left to right and notch of nerve ending mid/high frequency loss

...... with the help of friend and mentor, the very very peter venuto, and his incredibility challenging electric rainbow machine and the healing mandalas sent to ][ during recovery you can be bet your bottom dollar ][][ will get to the bottom of some LED dosage to help in the regeneration of those nerves ..... (hang on is a dollar still worth anything?)
...... induction, resonance, ode to teslian dreams ..... there will be light and energy at the end of every true tunnel

.......... its nice to eventually say that the podcast series is back up and running with much news and exciting projects to come over the coming months ...........
this mix is a lil rough around the edges but the tracks are as always a reason to believe in the ethereal power of the organisation of frequencies

so here is something real special!!!
eric wrenn first came into the cut&mistake radar back in january at what turned out to be the last party at the legendary, post supreme trading, brooklyn bushwick 'party loco' enclave

the party turned out to be an impromptu madhouse ......... the kind of party where the kinetic energy was just bouncing from one sweaty body to another ...... and then up stepped eric onto the decks and just raised that voltage another notch

all vinyl ..... all classic tracks ][ never heard before ...... absolutely off the chain, hook and everything and anything that can be considered to be off the ........
eric was kind enough to do a mix for ][ here and its an absolute cracker and once again don't know have half the tracks dropped and wondering how ][ got this far in life without having these stormers grace ][ ears
on top of everything else this guy is one hell of an awesome graphic designer working on a variety of awesome projects including beautiful intricate cover design of seth troxler’s/sex trothler “sexplosion ep” on wagon repair recordings (seth followed eric on the decks that same night)....check out his work

this mix started as something and ended as something completely different. originally intended to be a collection of great releases from the past couple of months it slowly turned into a stubborn beast ....... ][ just couldn't keep my concentration levels sharp enough to do something linear and simple ...... fingers always moving to adjusted tempos ...... multi-layering ...... obscure experimentation and then often moments of magic only to be burst with apiece that just wouldn't couldn't keep consistency with the flow gone before ... too much creativity and difficulty reigning it in to some unit form of continuity
the result is almost a collage ...... something ][ always seem to fall into when delving into production
there are some oddities in here...notable: a recording from a 'serge synthesizer' compilation ....... ][ racking my brain here but recently bumped into someone here in nyc who knew the creators grandson and who has the synth,,,,,its sound is magic
and then a jean michel jarre track from 'music for supermarkets' - a one press album, no master no nothing just one existing median and this a 80's recording from a luxembeurg radio station playing this one median......radio to tape to binary.....

It is a great pleasure and privilege to host this special track on cut&mistake.

levon vincent is a great friend, an accomplished musician and incredible producer.
anyone with memories of the bunker days in sub-tonic will remember levon's Ovum release 'love technique' blasted by amazing sets from derek plaslaiko and spinoza. hearing those vocals almost swallowing the space and sound system is always an audio adventure.
Since then Levon has retreated from the mainstream music biz and gone independent, with the launch of his own imprint Novel Sound.
l have been so excited at any of the musical works in progress Levon has been sending me.
the first EP contains some of my favourite tracks of the year........I've bounced and rattled around manhattan and brooklyn to these monsters in a haze of deep listening.................
levon was kind enough to have the title track of NS-01 stream on this site
this is new york represented in waveform format!

][ haven't been writing enough on the content of our mixes to date and the artists featured on our mixes deserve more respect for their work than what ][ give
its a cross between laziness and the eternal difficulty of connecting the aural frequency band into type face

moritz von oswald's ('basic channel' milestone fame) remix of sebbo's watamu beach is deep, luscious and a perfect start middle or end to whatever or wherever, released by martin buttrich and loco dice's 'desolat records' the label is definitely setting the standards for deep perfection

the mole has been around for a while now but this summer jam, baby you're the one, is the summer bomb, revolving, mutating, pulsing, bliss

australian ex-pat justine electra has a sound of her own and her refreshing tracks makes one dig deeper for diversity in this male dominated world of electronic music

samuel l session is a man to watch, his style is unique and theres something gripping and emotional about his work that's hard to pinpoint, this gorgeous remix of the equally awesome len faki is worth checking out

mark august is definitely on a hot streak, ]['ve had some of his tracks have been on heavy rotation for quite a few months now

thanks to deepmovements for tuning these ears into the gem that is moritz von oswald remix of germany's 2raumwohnung

i:cube at water taxi beach in queens on july 5th will not be missed, his tracks carry much soul and energy,,,,highly recommended exploring

justus kohncke's new album seems to have unfortunately come and gone from press focus in an instant, its a shame because he is a top dog approaching electronic and pop from an altogether different angle, incredibly talented artist who no doubt will be around for a long time as other stars fade and burn out

and wrapping it all up is the incredible, one of my favorite albums of the year, faust/nurse with wound collaboration,,,,,,,,discographys of these artists are audio monuments that are challenging both in their depth and range but also in their absolute quest for new musical territories,,,,,,highly recommended
