Hello Friends! Today’s prompt was hot, red hot, spicy… I went in the opposite direction since we got a new toy yesterday that I have been wanting for a while….

have you heard of it? It makes “instant” popsicles. okay so really it takes about 6 minutes to freeze them, but I have been intrigued for awhile. The first batch, sad to say, was not very good. I used orange juice and some pina colada mix that just wasn’t sweet enough. We’ll try again tomorrow. hopefully it’ll be better.

this morning at church, we had new members join the church and one got baptized.

and Jordan is in the middle during children’s time… (notice how many boys we have!)

Happy Birthday Troy and Ho’olaule’a

Hello Friends! Today we celebrated Troy’s birthday at Ho’olaule’a, the annual fair at the school I attended from Kindergarten through 12. We drove up to the school and parked down at the Elementary School and waited for the shuttle to take us up to the festivities.

Jalen and I sat together on the bus.

we picked up a tshirt and then got some scrip and headed up to the games/rides area. The fish pond is always a good thing, guaranteed win. Jalen did a little climb and slide thing. We all tried our hand at the various games unsuccessfully. Thankfully they were selling these inflatable hammers that the boys wanted. also, we spent some time at the dunk tank, the boys loved it.

favorite part of the whole thing? the food. haole brownies, hawaiian food plate.

on the way out we walked through the elementary campus a little bit. Some things are so different from when I was there, and somethings are the same. I love the tiles here.

when I was in elementary and intermediate school, this was a drive through area where parents and busses dropped kids off.

When I was in 8th grade, this is where I was, right before school when my friend Yvette got out of her mom’s car and announced to all of us, the space shuttle challenger had just blown up.

i love the pattern on the cement, it brings me right back to elementary school.

we went out to dinner for Troy’s Birthday. Bubba Gump’s again. We were prepared to declare we were in fact visiting from Djibouti but they didn’t ask. I was very excited about this and wonder if it had anything to do with the online feedback I submitted? Our server was excellent. He didn’t even flinch when I asked him to bring me a different side than fries. asked about our food. cleared our dishes promptly, kept our water glasses full. I LOVE when we get a good server. and to top it off? We had a $25 credit on our account. so nice. We were playing hangman while waiting for the food to come, Jordan was whispering the word to Jalen. :)

Hello Friends! I went off prompt today. We went out to Makapu’u to hike up to the top for a re-enlistment ceremony for one of Troy’s Co Workers. It was earlier than we normally go so it was cooler. It was a good sized turnout, the ceremony took a few minutes and the tradeoff? we got some free family time on a Friday. It’s days like this that I love being a homeschool family. We stopped part way down the hike to take this picture (10 second timer is a winner)

when we were done with the hike, we drove down the hill to sandy beach and picked up some sea glass and took another picture. the horizon is not straight because my camera was resting on my backpack, but I’m okay with that. my picture of the day:

Ash Wednesday

Hello Friends! Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten period when we Christians prepare our hearts for Easter. We repent our sins and focus on our relationships with God. Today our church offered two services, one at noon and one at 7pm. We were lucky enough that Troy was able to get off at Lunch time and we went at noon. We worship at Aiea United Methodist Church. Jordan was baptized here and we’ve been members for about 6 years now. Our church hosts an English congregation, a Samoan congregation and a Korean congregation. We have a mixture of local and military families and feel like it is just the right place for us to be. If you don’t have a church home and you live on Oahu, I’d love to invite you to join us one Sunday. If you don’t have a church home but are interested in finding one, I encourage you to make the effort now, don’t put it off until later!

Happy Fat Tuesday

Hello Friends! Happy Fat Tuesday! In other parts of the country people are loading up on their fat treats before the start of Lent tomorrow on Ash Wednesday. Here in Hawaii, we call it malasada day. Fried Portuguese donuts rolled in sugar. Sure, they come in other varieties like cinnamon sugar or filled with custard, chocolate, haupia or other fruity flavors but I am somewhat of a Malasada purists. Plain sugar for me please. and Yes, I’ll take a dozen. We drove down to Leonard’s Jr Bakery this afternoon to pick them up. Funny enough, the prompt for today was brown.

Winners, Runners, and more

Hello Friends! Today is President’s Day here in the US and in Hawaii it’s also the day of the Great Aloha Run. My girlfriend who inspires us regularly hike up Makapu’u participated today. The race course comes right past our house so we rode our bikes down to the course to cheer her on as she passed by.

I have to tell you, I’m the type of person that gets choked up watching sporting events. Not only the olympics but even championship games of sports I don’t even care about. When we approached the runners going by, I got teary just watching them. I also saw several other friends in the pack, it was pretty cool. It’s a small world and an even smaller island.

I also strained my back yesterday. Thankfully it’s not the worst I’ve ever done, but it is pretty sensitive. After we got back from the little bike ride, I got in the shower and my back really hurt when i got out, I could barely dry off and get dressed. I took some motrin and climbed into bed with the heating pad. I feel a little better now, but I don’t take a lot of pain killers and I don’t drink either so even Ibuprofen makes me sleepy. I napped off and on throughout the rest of the day.

I printed up the comments from my giveaway post, cut ‘em up, folded and pulled 5.

The other day we got one of those credit card offers in the mail. Normally I just shred them but this one had a picture of Mickey Mouse on it so I pulled the fake card out for Jordan to play with. He was disappointed to see that it was not a real credit card. I explained to him that a credit card was something that costs you more to use. He asked when would he be old enough to have a credit card and I told him hopefully he’d never use a credit card but that he could get a debit or check card before too long since he has an account. Today he called down to me, Mom, look what I made, a credit card! Please don’t mind the Popsicle mess on his face, I made him go wash it right after the picture. ;)

Hello Friends! It’s 50 days into the year, practically 20% through already! Today there was a robotic tournament at Pearlridge Mall so we went down to check it out. It was pretty interesting. The boys got to do a free make and take “bristle-bot“.

Jordan was not doing so well, so we decided to leave early. We drove through subway and picked up some sandwiches, chips and cookies and headed over to Hickam Beach to eat and play for a little while.

Hello Friends! Our prompt for the day was written in crayon. I asked Jordan to draw a little something that I could put into my project life album. He drew Perry the Platypus with his hat on.

we stayed in today and watched Lord of the Rings Two Towers and Return of the King. I really enjoyed taking a day off for some fantasy movie time. I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Hello Friends! :) I posted so much on my Project Life post yesterday that I decided to hold off on posting my POTD from yesterday until today. Yesterday’s theme was hugs and kisses. Jordan is always ready to share hugs and kisses with Honey Bear. In fact, we all hug him goodnight at bedtime and when Troy leaves for work in the mornings, he hugs him goodbye too. It is quite sweet.

Today’s prompt was about chocolate. I picked up a six pack of these little lilo and stitch chocolate macadamia nuts and since I only needed 5 for the giveaway, I opened one for the picture. :)

this was the other contender. a chocolate frog we bought in Universal Orlando. I told Troy we might as well open and eat it before it goes bad. It’s quite disturbing to look at.

I wanted to share one more thing. You may remember last week Friday I posted about us going to see Star Wars 3D and how Jordan got really anxious about it. This week’s movie was Arrietty, an animated G movie about the borrowers. When I first saw the preview for the movie, I picked up the box set of books for the boys to read. Jalen is already reading the second book and Jordan and I just started reading the first book this week. Jalen mentioned the movie early on in the week and we were planning on possibly letting Jalen go with just one of us. Jordan said he wanted to go see the movie in 2D. I told him, that’s a good thing since it’s only out in 2D. I’m so happy to report, we went to the movie with no fuss. we all enjoyed it too.

The last bit of happy? Remember the card I shared yesterday? It was the featured project on the Cardmaking Gallery at Two Peas in a Bucket today, yay! It’s the little things that make me happy :)
