Finally a new post! I apologize for the lack of posts recently, but I've been going through a rough patch these past couple of weeks. I generally don't like to post anything negative on my blog, but since I've been MIA for so long, I figure you guys deserve a reason for my absence. Almost two weeks ago exactly, I suffered a pretty major bleeding incident late at night as I was laying in bed. After calling the overnight on-call nurse and being transferred to my doctor, I was told to go to the emergency room.

After 5 long hours of multiple tests and a sonogram, my diagnosis was that I had a subchorionic hemorrhage. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done for this condition except for me to take it easy and hope that my body will heal itself. Fortunately the baby is still right on track as far as it's development is concerned as has not been affected by any of this. I hope you'll understand as my posts these days will be a bit more infrequent as I try to recover. Thank you again for your continued support and well wishes!

Monster.com: Present The Best You { + Giveaway!}

Monster.com is launching a new Facebook app called BeKnown, a professional networking tool for Facebook users that allows them keep their professional and personal lives separate. To commemorate the launch of this new app, I was asked to write up my tips on presenting your best self during an interview. Being that this is a fashion blog, I wanted to focus on the first impressions created by the interview outfit. Here is a sample of something I would wear to an interview.

My basic guidelines for dressing for an interview include:

Wear a suit. I am a software developer so oftentimes the interviews that I go into do not call for wearing a suit. However, I strongly believe that a suit will only help you in the case of an interview. A good suit conveys professionalism and shows that you are serious about the job opportunity, not to mention that a suit sometimes can give you that extra boost of confidence! Take the time to invest in a good suit -- you don't want to be scrambling around finding a suit and worrying about alterations before an interview!
Wear classic colors. I am a big fan of colorful outfits, but for an interview, this is definitely one case where you want to stick with the classic colors -- and definitely black! I personally prefer pairing royal blue tops with my suits as I feel like the color projects authority while still staying classic and conservative.
Minimize accessories. If you are interviewing for a fashion-forward opportunity, you will probably want to ignore this bullet. However, since I am in the technology field, having accessories in an interview outfit can be distracting and excessive. I would generally just stick with a watch, simple earrings, and maybe a simple necklace.
Comfortable, functional pumps. Although I usually prefer platform pumps, for an interview I will always stick to a simple classic pump shape. Make sure that these pumps are broken in and that you are comfortable walking in them! The last thing you want to be thinking about is having painful feet during a long day of interviews.

You can tell that for an interview, I like to play it safe with my outfit choices. The point is to look professional and wearing the right clothes is definitely a key component in creating a positive first impression with a prospective employer.

As for Monster.com's latest BeKnown app, I have long awaited for something that would let me separate my professional network from my personal network on Facebook. While privacy settings can help you hide posts that you don't necessarily want your boss to see, ultimately there needed to be something that could help you build your network professionally within your existing Facebook network. I couldn't have been happier to learn about the launch of just this feature with the new BeKnown app!

Happy New Year everyone!! I have resolutions already on the brain, but for today's post I just wanted to do a quick wrap up of the Chictopia + JCPenney holiday blogger campaign. I was able to sneak in some outfit pictures today just before the sun went down. Sadly in my rush to get pictures taken, I forgot to take off my not-so-glamorous Sea-Bands {they really do help in morning sickness nausea, for those wondering!} and hairband. I guess now you know how weird I've been looking these past few days as far as wrist accessories go. ;)

I'm now finally entering into Week 12 of my pregnancy and am at the point where clothes are starting to fit awkwardly on me... Here's hoping that I'll stop looking fat and start looking pregnant soon enough -- I'm sure people at work are thinking that I've just been loading up on the fruitcakes!

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas! My cloak of nausea is finally beginning to lift as I near the end of the first trimester and I'm actually out here in California spending time with the extended family. It's been nothing but eating delicious Chinese foods lately, so even if I don't have a baby bump to show yet, I certainly have been showing a bit of a food baby.

Adrian and I had agreed not to spend much on each other for Christmas this year {since we're saving up for the baby}, but he surprised me with these new Tory Burch flats that I've secretly been wanting for months now. They are actually the only pair of shoes that I brought on my 6-day holiday here in California {besides the running shoes} and my tired feet and achy back couldn't have asked for anything better!

Now it's time to convince hubby to take me after Christmas sale shopping. :)

The weather finally cleared up today and I actually put on heels today {I've been slumming it in flats lately}, so outfit pictures were a must! Although my look today was again super simple, I love this shearling-lined corduroy jacket. The rich colors and the soft texture make it the perfect layering piece for this cooler weather!

And because my parents are going out of town tomorrow and Adrian and I wouldn't be around on Monday to celebrate my mom's actual birthday, Adrian and I took my parents out for dinner tonight at one of our favorite local Chinese restaurants. I decided to surprise my mom with a homemade Chinese fruit cake {using this recipe}. The cake was surprisingly time-consuming to make and Adrian and I worked on parts of it all this week to finally have it ready for tonight. Although the frosting ended up making everything look messy at the end, the cake was super delicious {both my mom and Adrian went back for seconds!}. Happy Birthday, Mom!! :)

Pregnancy Update: Baby's First Picture!

My outfit was a bit boring today, so I decided to update with some exciting pregnancy news instead. I went in for my first prenatal visit and had my first sonogram!

And since it's a little hard to figure out what you're looking at, I did a little labeling...

At 9 weeks and 5 days, the baby is ~28mm (~1.1 inches). The picture really doesn't do the sonogram justice. The baby was actually moving quite a bit and we were able to see a little flickering heartbeat too.

Seeing these pictures definitely now made the pregnancy real. Now all that nausea and fatigue seems worth it. :)

Bright pants are the perfect way to perk up a dreary Monday! I love a good cobalt blue and let it stand in the spotlight as I paired it with some more neutral colors. I did want to add a little bit more warmth towards my face though, so on went this fun pink leaves scarf. This outfit was just what I needed to get my week going!

I would wear this sweater everyday if I could. It's the perfect combination of warm and stylish, while making me feel like I'm still all wrapped up in my blanket. I love the shape and length of the sweater as it's just long enough to cover my bum while still giving me some much needed curves. I kept my look simple and paired it with some basic white skinny jeans, but to add a bit of variety to the solid colors, I added this fun Heart Leaf scarf {can you believe, a scarf that combines my two favorite things?!}. I've been loving the easy looks these days and this outfit fit the bill exactly!

Pregnancy: Morning Sickness

I want to apologize for the sporadic postings and lack of commenting the past few weeks, but this is pretty much what my evenings home from work have been lately:

{thanks Adrian for taking such a glamorous picture of me in an effort to "document the baby journey"}

While I'll only be 9 weeks pregnant this Thursday, the past 3 weeks have seemed to drag on forever as I've been pushing myself to get past the constant nausea and fatigue that is "morning sickness." Imagine being seasick all day every day and you'll pretty much know how I've been feeling. Not so great. I think I've scoured the ends of the internet for morning sickness relief, but ultimately it's been the suggestion of blog and twitter friends that have helped me the most. Here's a bit of what I've tried -- some of it has worked, some of it hasn't, and some I still haven't tried yet.

Saltine Crackers. I had a pack of these sitting on my nightstand and they actually did work really well for the first couple of weeks. I think the combination of the salt and starch quieted my upset stomach. This week though, they've somehow stopped working on me.

Ginger Tea. I had a pack of this ginger tea leftover from when I was really into tea almost a year ago. The ginger actually does help a bit first thing in the morning. The smell is quite strong but it does help when my stomach is rumbling. Ginger candies also work quite well, but the taste was a bit too strong for me to handle so I didn't continue with those {but thank you Kim_TX for the rec!}. Unfortunately on the days when my stomach is ok but my head feels like it's spinning, the ginger tea isn't much use.

Sea Bands. I just picked up these wristbands at Walgreens today {at the recommendation of Katie} and have to say so far these are doing a great job at helping my nausea. Normally I get hit with a huge wave of nausea after every meal but today was the first time that I actually felt ok. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these babies keep working for me!

Preggie Pops. I've read about these lozenge-type drops on a few of the pregnancy forums and Robin actually mentioned it too in one of my post comments. The reviews have been a bit mixed from what I've seen, and since they aren't easily accessible at a local store, I haven't made the extra effort to order them online. Has anybody had good experiences with these?

Ultimately, I've found that sleep is the best remedy. But for those 9 hours where I need to actually function at work, I am open to trying it all! If any of you have any other advice, I'd love to hear. :)

The weather barely eeked out over the 40s today and combined with the gusty winds, I couldn't convince myself to go outdoors for pictures. Meanwhile, it was Color Brigade day and I had to post my accessor-ific outfit! I'm in absolute love with this flower necklace and it was no doubt the highlight of my day. For the rest of the outfit, I kept it simple yet layered for warmth. And since I could barely drag myself out of bed this rainy morning, I decided that flats were in order. The result was easy, comfy, yet still pulled together with a super fun necklace. :)

These pictures were actually taken on Friday when the temperatures hadn't dropped into the 40s yet, and I was enjoying some of the fall foliage around my house after work. I love mixing "tougher" pieces like this leather jacket with soft feminine chiffon tops and chunky statement necklaces. And of course, what better way to tie everything together than with a hot pink belt, right?

This weekend was an absolute whirlwind! One of the highlights was definitely my company's annual Holiday Party, filled with great food and incredible entertainment {it's always nice to see your bosses get crazy on the dance floor!}. And to make sure that it would be a night to remember, we all enjoyed a bit of photobooth silliness on our way out the door.

I think Adrian really wants to eat my head. :)

This lace skirt is my most recent {and maybe luckiest!} Forever 21 find. You might remember that I had purchased a lace skirt from Lulu's a few months ago but ended up selling it as it was a bit too short to wear to work and it didn't quite fit on my natural waistline either. I literally shrieked inside when I saw this skirt at my Forever 21 store just sitting idly on the table by its lonesome. I love how this skirt is cut more like a pencil skirt {instead of the mini-skirt style that was the Lulu's} and while the current size Small is still a bit roomy, I have no doubt that in a few months my preggo self will be filling it out. :)

Happy Thursday! I'm finally catching up on the Victoria's Secret fashion show tonight.

The highs were supposed to be in the upper 50s today, so I took a chance and went bare-legged for the first time in weeks {which was nice but I was shivering by the end of the day}. One of my favorite purchases from this summer was a Forever 21 lace and mustard pleated skirt dress {see full dress here}. I've been wearing the dress like a skirt like crazy, but today was actually the first time I layered another sweater over the entire dress without first folding the top portion over under my skirt... Little did I know you could still see where the top top of the dress cut me off under the sweater {definitely a mistake that won't be happening again!}.

I really love the mixing of navy with mustard but found that on its own, this sweater was a little bit loose and boxy when worn naturally over the dress. Fortunately it wasn't anything that a little tucking and belting didn't solve. And this little bow belt was the perfect touch of cuteness that had me smiling all day. And so while some things didn't work quite as well as I would've hoped in this outfit, other things worked out nicely. Funny how at age 30 I'm still learning how to get dressed. :)

It goes without saying that Samantha Rose pieces are incredibly unique. Genuine freshwater pearls are combined with pure metals that won't rust out or aggravate allergies. I especially love the fact that although their pieces include classic elements, their designs are nothing but modern. Pearls are combined with Austrian crystals to up the glam factor for brides, beads are added to make earthy and eclectic pieces perfect for Autumn, and pearls are worked with chains and metallics to create looks that are ideal for the office.

It literally turned into winter before I knew it here in Texas. I've been taking advantage of the chilly weather and finally took all my coats out of storage. I decided to switch up the look of my everyday coat and added this fur collar. I always feel like adding just a touch of fur seems to transform a look from boring to glam. And the best part is, fur goes with just about everything!

Since I'm in denial of the fact that you can't wear white after Labor Day, I paired up my forest green sweater with my favorite white skinny jeans. I love simple {yet subtly glam!} looks that get me going on a Monday. :)

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving {US readers, at least}!! Mine was spent in El Paso celebrating with Adrian's family for the first time. My family normally doesn't do turkey for the holidays so it was quite a change to have turkey 3 meals in a row {turkey tacos are surprisingly delicious}. Adrian and I did prelude our eating festivities with a little 5K turkey trot on Thursday morning and it was a great way to kick off the holiday festivities.

For the first time this year, I also skipped out on all Black Friday shopping. I've been so tired lately {with this whole pregnancy thing} that sleeping in was hands-down the better option in my book. I did end up walking into an Apple store though and upgraded my phone to the 4S, but I really don't consider it a Black Friday purchase as it was something I've been trying to do in Dallas ever since the launch of the new phone {Dallas stores have been out of stock every time}.

Overall, I had an incredible holiday and although I had originally planned on blogging the entire time, the slow internet connection combined with the almost constant nausea and fatigue that I've had lately gave me reason enough to take a little break. I came back home to wintery cold weather here in Dallas and was happy to have to actually take out my favorite red "holiday coat". Somehow this bright red color always puts me in the holiday spirit. :)

I found this polka-dot shirt on a rare, hubby-requested shopping trip to the mall last weekend. I had some store credit to use up at Papaya and was surprised to see this really nice silk-like shirt hanging from their racks. Since I'm lacking any sort of polka-dot patterns in my fall/winter wardrobe, I decided to pick it up. Adrian was actually surprised this shirt didn't already exist in my closet -- I guess that means it was meant to be right? :)

I'll be packing my bags tomorrow for a Thanksgiving trip out to El Paso to visit Adrian's side of the family. It'll be my first time celebrating the holidays with them, so I'm excited to see what it'll be like!

Ever since my first purchase of the J. Crew double serge wool skirt last year, I've been in love with J. Crew skirts. Not only are the beautiful colors right up my alley, but the construction of the skirt is always very well done and lends itself easily to multiple wears over time. I picked up this felted wool mini skirt a couple weeks ago when J. Crew had a 30% off sale.

While it is still quite a bit of money to pay for a simple skirt, I have no doubt that this skirt will get it's worth in wear. And for those wondering, the skirt actually still is quite bit roomy as-is in the tummy area, so hopefully I can even keep on wearing it for a good majority of the next 9 months. :) My only complaint is that the material does wrinkle a bit more easily than my previous J. Crew skirts -- these pictures were taken at the end of a long workday {morning sickness is no joke} and you can tell how wrinkly they became after a long day of sitting... Given how much I love this skirt though, I might just consider carrying some Febreze wrinkle release with me to make up for this one minor gripe. What do you guys think?

I'm Pregnant!

I debated for awhile on whether or not I should share this news as some people say you really shouldn't announce that you're pregnant until the second trimester when the chances of a miscarriage are significantly lower. But for me, I was much too excited {and also figured I'm going to need all the help I can get getting past this first trimester} that I had couldn't keep this a secret any longer!

I actually found out the news last Sunday {Nov 13} when I decided that being late 11 days for my monthly cycle was probably reason for suspicion that something was amiss. And so Adrian and I stopped by the drugstore on our way home from dinner and picked up a home pregnancy test... I was a bit scared to take it when I got home, so I ended up waiting until the last minute before going to bed to finally muster up the courage to see what it had to say. Lo and behold, my suspicions were confirmed! I stood there and looked at the indicator for a good 5 minutes {with my heart racing and a thousand thoughts going through my mind}. When I finally stopped shaking, I went to share the news with Adrian {who was already laying in bed at this point}.

I had him come and take a look at the test results himself {just in case I was too sleepy and didn't read it correctly}. His reaction was one of confusion at first, and then of absolute happiness. We hugged and kissed and he busted out the camera so we could document this important milestone in our lives.

And so as of today, I am 6 weeks and 4 days along. The due date is around July 12 {so close to my own birthday on July 19!}. The baby is only the size of a blueberry {0.25 in long} but it's certainly been taking a toll on my body already. I've been so ridiculously tired these past couple weeks and have had serious bouts of nausea all throughout the day {no vomiting or anything yet}. I already have my first prenatal appointment scheduled for December 13, and I can't wait to learn more about this little thing growing in side me. :)

I love the idea of mixing pieces from different seasons. Since we had a rare day of 80-degree weather, I decided to take advantage of what is probably the last day this year that I'll be able to wear my summer dress and layered it up with a faux fur vest and suede ankle booties.

I was a bit unsure of this outfit when I put it on this morning and I'm a bit ambivalent about it now when I look at these pictures. One the one hand, I love the mixture of textures and seasonal pieces. On the other hand, I think I should've paired it with a slimmer dress instead as the poofy-ness of the skirt kinda clashes with the puffiness of the fur vest. Not to mention the fact that these boots come up at an awkward height on my calves... But either way, this outfit was fun to wear so let's just leave it at that. :)

The cold front actually rolled in just as I was taking these pictures too. Can you see the little goosebumps on my arms?
