Judging by requests for information from CWA parents applying for the Adoption Tax Credit, IRS procedures for receiving this credit have become much more stringent over the past year, and adoptive parents are having a more difficult time receiving the credit they are allowed by law in the year their adoption is finalized.

If you need assistance in this process, one resource is the IRS’s own Taxpayer Advocate Service (800-829-3676). Click on this link for more information about this free service.

Here’s a link to a good article on the importance of adopting families establishing a good relationship with their doctor when they bring an adopted child into their family. Parents who are lucky enough to have a doctor nearby who specializes in adopted children are very fortunate. But even a well-trained family doctor can provide the special care needed for these special children if he/she is willing to take a little extra time to gather the necessary information that is available.

Over $44,000 raised for Ethiopian orphanages!

As of Monday, December 12 CWA had received $44,125 in response to our urgent appeal for financial aid to our Ethoipian orphanage partners. We are so grateful to all the donors, and hope that even more friends of Ethiopian children can help during the Christmas season.

NCFA Releases Adoption Advocate No. 42: Talking to Your Child About Adoption: Recommendations for Parents

Written for prospective adoptive parents, those already parenting adopted children, and agency staff working with families, the December issue of NCFA’s Adoption Advocate focuses on how to discuss adoption with children. The article includes recommendations for parents and suggestions from several adoption experts and adoptive parents, including Chuck Johnson, president and CEO of NCFA and former adoption agency director; Dr. Betsy Vonk, professor of social work and director of the MSW program at the University of Georgia; Jayne Schooler, author of The Whole Life Adoption Book (coauthored with NCFA) and Telling the Truth to Your Adopted or Foster Child; and Dr. Kathleen L. Whitten, developmental psychologist, lecturer at Georgia State University, and author of Labor of the Heart: A Parent’s Guide to the Decisions and Emotions in Adoption.

Good news — as of November 29 CWA has raised $39,220 in donations for the Ethiopia Orphanage Support appeal.
