As the first U.S. adoption agency to be re-accredited to work in Kyrgyzstan, Christian World Adoption was happy to provide a discounted rate to the “pipeline” families who had been waiting for so long to complete their adoptions of previously referred children. To date CWA has worked with about 30 families from other agencies to expedite their processes. We would like to give notice that this discounted rate will continue until June 1, 2012, at which time all new families applying to CWA will be charged the same fees regardless of their previous status. We encourage any remaining pipeline families who want to take advantage of this special consideration to be in contact with Anya Rutherford at anyar@cwa.org as soon as possible.

The Kyrgyzstan program reopened in January, and the first group of families is already in-country for their first trip! These are some of the “pipeline cases,” or those who had started their adoption process before the country had halted international adoptions back in 2008.

Kyrygzstan program director Anya Rutherford reports that she arrived in Bishkek late last week with 7 CWA families after a 30-hour trip, arriving just before dawn. Signs are that the trip is going very well at this point. The families were very excited and eager to begin their adoption process, so much so that no one really slept the first night. Anya began working on adoption documents with CWA’s in-country facilitator immediately.

After some official meetings, the families were able to meet and spend time with their prospective adoptive children. The orphanages are currently allowing families to visit the children twice per day during the week, and once or twice on the weekends. Anya will be learning much about the new adoption process during this trip and should have more details to share upon her return!

We are excited for these families and all of those who will be traveling in the upcoming months. We look forward to the future of this program and those children who will finally be coming home to their families!

What lessons were learned last year that can reduce the delays and hassles when filing for the Adoption Tax Credit for your 2011 taxes? Join our guests Mark McDermott, adoption attorney and adoption tax credit expert, and Megan Lindsey, Director of Infant Adoption Training Initiative and Assistant Director of Policy for the National Council For Adoption.

Listen or download the show after 1:00 Eastern Time today from http://www.creatingafamily.org/radioshow.html

Blog: Will the Adoption Tax Credit Expire in 2012?
We’ve been swamped with emails and Facebook posts asking us what will happen to the adoption tax credit in 2012, 2013, and beyond. Like it or not, the adoption tax credit is not and never has been a permanent part of the US tax code. Unless Congress passes legislation this year, as of Dec. 31, 2012, the Adoption Tax Credit will revert to a $6,000 nonrefundable credit for special needs adoptions only. To find out what Congress is up to on this credit and its chances for extension, I talked to someone truly in the know– the lobbyist in Washington DC working on the Adoption Tax Credit for the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA). To read the interview and full blog click here.

More projects are underway at Acacia Village!

The permanent perimeter fence is in process!

The children also now have a library! There are some games, seats, and books available for the children to have a quiet space to learn. Money was donated by a group from World Orphans for this room.
