Kyrygzstan program director Anya Rutherford reports that she arrived in Bishkek late last week with 7 CWA families after a 30-hour trip, arriving just before dawn.  Signs are that the trip is going very well at this point.  The families were very excited and eager to begin their adoption process, so much so that no one really slept the first night.  Anya began working on adoption documents with CWA’s in-country facilitator immediately.

After some official meetings, the families were able to meet and spend time with their prospective adoptive children.  The orphanages are currently allowing families to visit the children twice per day during the week, and once or twice on the weekends.  Anya will be learning much about the new adoption process during this trip and should have more details to share upon her return!

We are excited for these families and all of those who will be traveling in the upcoming months.  We look forward to the future of this program and those children who will finally be coming home to their families!

The blog is on the future of this credit and they will be rolling out their advocacy campaign shortly for extending the credit past 2012.

Blog: Will the Adoption Tax Credit Expire in 2012?
We’ve been swamped with emails and Facebook posts asking us what will happen to the adoption tax credit in 2012, 2013, and beyond.  Like it or not, the adoption tax credit is not and never has been a permanent part of the US tax code.  Unless Congress passes legislation this year, as of Dec. 31, 2012, the Adoption Tax Credit will revert to a $6,000 nonrefundable credit for special needs adoptions only. To find out what Congress is up to on this credit and its chances for extension, I talked to someone truly in the know– the lobbyist in Washington DC working on the Adoption Tax Credit for the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA).  To read the interview and full blog click here.

The permanent perimeter fence is in process!

The children also now have a library! There are some games, seats, and books available for the children to have a quiet space to learn. Money was donated by a group from World Orphans for this room.
