This article is an easy to follow step-by-step guide, which will teach you how to install Windows 7 on your computer.

To follow this guide, you will need a Windows 7 installation DVD or USB, and the product serial key. If you are doing an upgrade from an earlier operating system on your computer or a fresh install to replace and existing one, you will need to back up all your data and important files. It is possible to buy only three versions of Windows 7 - Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. While Home Premium is enough for most people, while Ultimate includes everything contained by the other two as well as support for ReadyBoost and additional language packs. Select the 32bit or 64 bit according to your system specifications.

How to install Windows 7

Step 1: Check your machine specifications

Download and run Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor here

Before you can start to install Windows 7, you need to verify that your system meets Microsofts minimum requirements. If your system was running Wiindows Vista then you can safely skip step 1.

For satisfactory performance, a 1 GHz CPU and a 1GB RAM is the bare minimum required, but people have reported running Windows 7 on a lot less although this isn't recommended for most users.
The advisor checks basic system requirements, and provides a report.

Following the advice, you may choose to upgrade or do custom install. For this article, we have chosen to do a custom install.

Step 2: Start the installation

Boot up your computer from the installation disk. Select the appropriate Language, Time and currency and keyboard options and click Next.

At this juncture, Windows 7 installation gives you a choice to continue with the installation or to do a repair for an existing installation. Therefore, later, if you have a problem, you may choose to repair from here.Click Install Now

Now click Custom (Advanced)

Step 3: Choose where to install

The next question is where you want to install Windows 7. If your hard disk is undivided, you will see it whole.

You can go ahead and proceed with the install by clicking Next, or you may want to partition your hard disk by selecting Drive options (advanced).

If you decide to partition your drive, then click Drive Options (advanced) you will see the screen below:

You can Delete, Format, or create New partitions as required. Once you have finished, you must select the partition where you want Windows 7 to reside. Windows might warn you that it will create additional partitions. Simple click Ok when prompted. (See picture below)

Now, The Windows 7 installer will copy the necessary files to your computers hard drive and install the operating system. (See picture below)

During this process your computer may restart by itself.

Step 4: Create a User account

After the installation has completed you will need to give the provide a username and password of your choice that will be used to log in your fresh Windows 7 installation. Once you have entered a suitable username and password click Next (See picture below)

The next step is entering your Windows 7 product key. Simply type this in and click Next (See picture below)

Step 5: Setup the Windows

Windows 7 will now ask you how you would like to protect the new installation. For the time being, we will go along with Microsoft's recommendation. Click Use the recommended settings (See picture below)

Step 6: Setup your geographical location and date/time

Select your time zone and set the date and the time Once complete click Next (See picture below)

Step 7: Setup your network

If your computer has a network cable plugged in you will be prompted with the Select your computer's current location window. Simply click either Home or Work as per your circumstance. If you are not connected to a network then you will NOT be presented with this step. (See picture below)

Step 8: First login

Your computer will now reboot and allow you to login with your username and password you specified earlier on. (See picture below)

Step 9: Enjoy your shiny new Windows 7 installation

You can enjoy your spanking new Windows 7 operating system and configure it any way you want.

How to Disable The Windows 8 Store

This article is an easy-to-follow systematic guide, which will teach you to disable the Windows 8 store.

Although the Integrated apps store is one of the most significant features of the Windows 8 operating system, this free pack may become a major headache for the users who share their netbooks with their family members or others. Installing several apps and games could increase the installation size and mess up the operating environment. To prevent such disasters, you can disable the Windows 8 Store, by changing the Local Group Policy.

Step 1: Invoke the Local Group Policy.

Press the Windows Key+R to open up the run box dialog. Here, you must decide whether you are implementing this change for all users, specific users / groups, or for all users except administrators.

If you are implementing this change for all users, type gpedit.msc in the run box dialog and press Enter. For this article, we will continue the implementation of the Local Group Policy for all users.

However, if you intend to implement the change for specific users/groups or for all users except administrators, type mmc.exe in the run box dialog and hit Enter.

In both cases above, you may be questioned by the UAC whether you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer. Say Yes, and continue.

Step 2: Enter the Windows Components.

This will allow you to go down into User Configuration, from there to Administrative Templates, and finally to Windows Components.

Step3: Go to the Windows Store.

Under the Windows Components, you will find the option Store.

Step 4: Turn off the Store.

On the right-hand side, under the Store column, you can see the option to turn off the Store, which was not configured initially. To configure it, you will have to double-click on the option.

This will bring you to three radio buttons as shown below. Initially, the button Not Configured will be marked. You must switch the button from Not Configured to Enabled. Click OK once this is done.

Step5: Make it Effective.

To allow this action to take effect, you need to enforce the updated policy. Press Windows Key+R again to open the run box dialog. In the run box, you must type gpupdate /force, and click on OK.

Step 6: Testing time

After you have run through the steps above, you would have disabled your Windows Store. To test this try the Windows Store, you should get a message as shown below -

Thus, you have successfully disabled Windows 8 App Store.

However, if you are not sure, whether you will be able to carry out all the steps above and not mess up, there is an even easier method.

You can download a reg file from here. Save the downloaded file onto your desktop. Double-click on this reg file. Now click on Run and say Yes to the UAC prompt. To finish, you will need one Yes and one more OK, before you are done.

You may delete the reg file you downloaded, from your desktop, now, if you like.

An error sometimes occurs within Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010 that causes the email client to either hang or crash completely when attempting to print. You can usually print just fine from other applications, the exception being Microsoft Outlook.

A cause of this instability is the OutlPrnt file. Outlook keeps its printing style settings in a file called OutlPrnt. Corruption of this file causes Outlook to hang or crash when printing.

Fortunately, the solution to this problem is simple. Just follow these simple steps:

- Close Microsoft Outlook
- Browse to the locations of the OutlPrnt file and rename it to OutlPrnt.old
- Then start Microsoft Outlook and test printing. It should work just fine!

The OutlPrnt file can be found at the following locations:
Windows Vista and Windows 7
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

NOTE:
\%username% refers to the actual username of the person logged in that it experiencing the problem.

How to enable Remote Desktop in Windows XP

Follow these steps to enable remote desktop on Windows XP machine:

- Right-click My Computer and click Properties [See pic below]

- Click the Remote tab

- Tick the Allow users to connect remotely to your computer check box [See pic below]

- Click OK

Note:
You must be logged on as an Administrator or be a member of the Administrators group to enable Remote Desktop.

To allow other users to connect to your computer:

- In the Remote tab, click the Select Remote Users button [See pic below]

- On the Remote Desktop Users dialog box, click Add

- Type the name of the user you want to be able to connect remotely to your computer

- Click Check Names

- When the name is located, click OK. Click OK again, and once again.
The name now appears in the list of users on the Remote Desktop Users dialog box.

Enabling Remote Desktop on Windows XP is now complete. It really is that simple.

When you’re trying to send an email to a distribution group in Microsoft Exchange 2007 or Microsoft Exchange 2010, the following error may be returned:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists
Your message wasn’t delivered because of security policies in Exchange 2007. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

This error occurs when external users (i.e. people outside your organisation) attempt to send email to an internal distribution group. By default, Exchange only allows authenticated users (i.e. logged in domain users) to send email to a distribution group.

To allow external users (i.e. people outside your organisation) to send email to your distribution group follow these steps:

- Open the Exchange Management Console

- Expand Recipient Configuration

- Click Distribution Group

- Double-click the distribution group that you want to allow external users to send to.

- Click the Mail Flow Settings Tab

- Double-click Message Delivery Restrictions

- Untick “Require that all senders are authenticated“ (See pic below)

- Click OK

- You can now close Exchange Management Console

Microsoft Outlook 2010 comes built in with an option to recover emails permanently deleted, even after the Deleted Items folder is emptied.

For this to work, you need to have an IMAP email account. i.e: you need to be connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server. If you have a POP3 account this feature might not work but you are welcome to follow the steps below.

How to recover deleted items:

- Click the Deleted Items folder (see below)

- Now click the Folder button in the ribbon menu and click the Recover Deleted Items button (see below)

You will now see a list of deleted email. Simple select the ones you want and click Recover Selected Items

NOTE: If your Recover Deleted Items icon is greyed out then follow the steps below to enable it:

- Press Windows key + R (This will bring up the Run dialog)

- In the Run dialog box type regedit and press Enter

- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

- On the right hand window pane you will see a few string values. Ignore them. Right-click anywhere in the white space and select New->DWORD Value

- Type in DumpsterAlwaysOn as the DWORD's name. Now double-click on DumpsterAlwaysOn and change the value to 1 [See pic below]

You can now close the Registry Editor window.

Microsoft Outlook 2003 has a feature that lets you recover your deleted items after you've emptied your Deleted Items folder. If you click on the Tools menu, you'll see a Recover Deleted Items option. You will find though, that the option is often greyed out. This can be a real pain if you've just mistekenly deleted an item. Here's how to enable the option:

- Close Microsoft Outlook 2003

- Press Windows key + R (This will bring up the Run dialog)

- In the Run dialog box type regedit and press Enter

- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options

- On the right hand window pane you will see a few string values. Ignore them. Right-click anywhere in the white space and select New->DWORD Value

If you want to learn how to hide hard drives in Windows XP/Vista/7 then you've come to the right place. This article explains how to achieve just that.

If you have sensitive or important data stored on a particular disk drive that you don’t want anyone to see, a great way to hide it is to remove the drive letter assigned to a particular mounted volume. With Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can hide hard drives easily using nothing more than the Command Prompt. Here's how:

- Click Start >> Run (This brings up the Run dialog box)
- Type cmd and press Enter (This brings up the Windows Command Prompt)
- Type diskpart in the command prompt and press Enter (This launches the Diskpart utility within the Command Prompt window)
- Now type list volume (This displays a list of all mounted volumes on your computer and their associated drive letters)

- Using the above picture as reference, if, for example, you would like to hide drive E, type select volume 6

- Now type remove letter E (Note: This sometime requires a reboot)

Diskpart will now remove the drive letter. The drive will no longer be available via Windows Explorer or My Computer.

Don’t worry though, your data remains safe!

Find yourself receiving "BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" message in Windows Vista? Don't stress! Its easier to fix than you think. Here's how:

SOLUTION 1

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start.

Select Startup Repair and let Vista do its thing! That really is all there is to it to resolve BOOTMGR is missinf in Windows Vista.

If that doesn't work try this:

If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps:

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Press a key when you are prompted.
- Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next
- Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt
- Type bootrec /rebuildbcd and then press ENTER

• If Bootrec runs successfully, it will present you with the installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.

• If Bootrec cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order shown below: (Remember to press ENTER after each command)

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /rebuildbcd

- Restart the computer.

Microsoft Outlook can sometimes be a strange beast. It often presents itself with strange errors and quirks that can be a real pain. Luckily for us Microsoft has built-in ways to deal with most of these issues.

- Close Microsoft Outlook.

- Press WinKey + R to bring up the Run dialog box.

- Type outlook.exe followed by a space and then the switch that you wish to run. (See example below)

Switches you can use to clean up your Outlook are:

/cleanfinders – to remove Search Folders from the Microsoft Exchange mailbox.

/cleanfreebusy – to clear and recreate free/busy information. (Note: To use this switch, you must be able to connect to the Exchange server)

/cleanprofile – to remove invalid profile keys and regenerate default registry keys. 

/cleanreminders – to clear and recreate reminders. /cleanrules – to delete rules on the client and server. 

/cleanserverrules – to delete rules on the server only. 

/cleansharing – to remove all subscriptions from Account Settings. (This will not remove any downloaded content) 

/cleanviews – to restore default views, custom views are removed.

Google's Gmail is a hugely popular free email service. So much so, that people often have more than a single account. If you access these accounts predominantly via your web browser then switching between GMail account involves a log out from one account and log in to another. Of course you can get around this by installing different browsers on your computer and using a different browser to log in to each account. There's one word for all this....cumbersome.

Fortunately though there are always smarter alternatives. In this case, a simple Greasemonkey script for Firefox that you can use to switch between your various Gmail accounts.

Follow these simple steps:

How to delay sending an email in Outlook 2010

- In the Email Message window, click the Options tab

- Then click Delay Delivery (see picture below)

- In the Properties window ensure that Do not deliver before is ticket and select the desired send date and time from the calendar drop-down.

- Click Close and Send.

- Your message will now sit in the Outbox and will be sent at the selected date and time.

Following the advice, you may choose to upgrade or do custom install. For this article, we have chosen to do a custom install. Step 2: Start the installation

Now click Custom (Advanced)Step 3: Choose where to install

The next question is where you want to install Windows 7. If your hard disk is undivided, you will see it whole.

You can go ahead and proceed with the install by clicking Next, or you may want to partition your hard disk by selecting Drive options (advanced).

If you decide to partition your drive, then click Drive Options (advanced) you will see the screen below:

You can Delete, Format, or create New partitions as required. Once you have finished, you must select the partition where you want Windows 7 to reside. Windows might warn you that it will create additional partitions. Simple click Ok when prompted. (See picture below)

Now, The Windows 7 installer will copy the necessary files to your computers hard drive and install the operating system. (See picture below)

During this process your computer may restart by itself.Step 4: Create a User account

After the installation has completed you will need to give the provide a username and password of your choice that will be used to log in your fresh Windows 7 installation. Once you have entered a suitable username and password click Next (See picture below)

The next step is entering your Windows 7 product key. Simply type this in and click Next (See picture below)

Step 5: Setup the Windows

Windows 7 will now ask you how you would like to protect the new installation. For the time being, we will go along with Microsoft's recommendation. Click Use the recommended settings (See picture below)

Step 6: Setup your geographical location and date/time

Select your time zone and set the date and the time Once complete click Next (See picture below)

Step 7: Setup your network

If your computer has a network cable plugged in you will be prompted with the Select your computer's current location window. Simply click either Home or Work as per your circumstance. If you are not connected to a network then you will NOT be presented with this step. (See picture below)

Step 8: First login

Your computer will now reboot and allow you to login with your username and password you specified earlier on. (See picture below)

Step 9: Enjoy your shiny new Windows 7 installation

You can enjoy your spanking new Windows 7 operating system and configure it any way you want.
